Lifehack 2011: Regan vs Pirates

Archive: 6 posts

The heroine of Lifehack makes a short return to the LBP world. When her island love-shack gets attacked by modern day (yet stupid) pirates, Regan's not in the mood to negotiate.

Silly stuff, with sections of paintinator, and sections of platforming. Aside from one short segment, all the music is my own creation again. It's FAIRLY easy, though I haven't aced it yet... the boss, and one section of climbing seem to get me at least once every time.

It can be played as multi, but I think single players will get the most out of it.

made a few lil changes

-fixed an invis wall was misaligned, resulting in possible/probable missing of a lil opening talk and .. 'shower scene'.
-added a window and expanded another in Regan's house.. on the suggestion of my 3 year old. It actually looks pretty nice.
-added a lil 'lip' on a ledge that makes an otherwise potentially frustrating jump much easier. It's not a 'challenge' jump.. missing only made you find your way back up again, and that was kinda stupid.

I also found a 'new' censored word. "Lamer". Others might know this one already. But sheesh. I can have a character tell another to die, but I can't call him a lamer. Yah, Otay.

Oh, and I managed to ace it, whee. (Not that super hard to do) I missed out on 10 points tho, due to a broken combo, so I guess I'll have to give it another go...!

Overall, pretty enjoyable. On and off funny, with some really clever transitions (outside to inside the pirate ship, for example). The first boss was a tad tedious - actually, the whole intro is somewhat bizarre; I had no idea how good the level would be from the first impressions... The house was nice. The boat was for the most part good. Then, of course:

The entire space pirate ship was very good. Very, very challenging, too (the first climb is just hard). I especially liked the way the platforming merged with puzzling! Good job there. The final boss was great. Maybe the spinning things should flame on and off the whole time, even before you paint them up? Anyway.

Hehe, thanks for the spoiler hiding. Some of the oddness you may have felt could have to do with Regan. She's a character from my first novel, so she kinda has a whole backstory that is reflected when she shows up in LBP. The LB community at large had a chance to get to know her better in my LBP1 levels, ten of which retold the story of my novel, in a sort of... lbpish way.

The first boss yeah, it a tad tedious, though he's a bit of a throwback to one of my older bosses... but that's an in-joke that I thin only I get. I'll reduce the HP of the first weak spot to smooth out this section a bit...

the final boss's spinny things aren't supposed to flame because.. well, they aren't damaged until you shoot em up. That said, until you do, the only hazard in that room is to be standing on the boss when he electrifies. (I have him do that to prevent him being used as a safe spot to shoot from when the fires get goin'.)

But yeah... I think I might reduce the HP on those things a little, and add a little more risk in the room to prevent it from being too 'safe' in the first phase.

thanks for the feedback!

Made the changes to the midpoint boss... didn't change the last boss. I'm kinda thinking that the HP of the 4 targets might be good as-is... yeah, it's tedious before any of em are defeated, but if they all go down easy, it kinda takes the wind out of most of the fight. And I didn't add any hazards either... since it's already pretty hairy in there by the end.2011-03-21 01:39:00
