Stickers / Level Badges / What The Fudge?

Archive: 7 posts

No doubt some will find this amusing, I've only just started playing with stickers in LBP2 (everything I've made so far has been neon/hologram vector graphics, and my only previous LBP experience is with the PSP version (bleh...)

Anyway, I'm trying to make a level badge. Because my level is a no-popit affair, I have to take a fullscreen photo and crop it down. I tried to stick the photo in an empty level, and re-photograph... oh dear. It seems placing photos in a level makes them semi-transparent, and very tricky to work with. I tried on a variety of surfaces, but none of them really looked great.

Am I going about this the wrong way?

As a sidenote, it's bloody annoying how the level badges themselves exhibit a cloth texture when displayed in the game. Kinda ruins the effect of most the badges, even ones using built-in stickers.

As an alternative, temporarily republish the level (in the same spot) locked, but with the popit enabled just for the purposes of taking the photo, then republish the previous version over the top when you're done.

just create your level badge in another blank level so your popit is enabled : ) make sure youve got front view on this helps a lot!2011-03-14 22:00:00

Wow. I must've been more tired than I thought when I wrote my reply. For level badges this is the best solution - it's only when you want to upload screenshots that it matters where the photo is taken.

Of course! It was so simple, I just made a whole new level, copied some of the assets in, and took the photo in create mode. Trying to do these things at 4am isn't good for logical thinking lol.

Thanks guys

By the way, anyone got any ideas why my level badge looks fine on the moon, but distorts when used on a level link?

what they said, and you can also just take the picture in preview mode too, in the level, without being in your no-popit control seat.

@ the level link, they all do that, it's asinine. i think they use the proportions of LBP1 badges, or something. just fake it by sticker the same sticker you use for your badge over it. you could holo cover it too, if you don't want anybody to know.

I'd probably classify that as a bug, but it's debatable. Level badges can potentially appear in up to four different places...

LBP1 User Interface (including My Moon, Community Earth)
LBP2 Level Link

...but for no particularly good reason, the aspect ratio of custom stickers is changed in cases 1 and 2, but not 3 and 4.

For cases 1 and 2, the 16:9 image is first adjusted to a 1:1 aspect ratio, leaving a square image, and a circle is cut from that square which becomes the visible badge.

For cases 3 and 4, a circle is cut directly from the 16:9 image, which becomes the visible badge.

There a guide (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23443-How-To-Avoid-Distorted-Avatars-And-Level-Patches-When-Using-Custom-Stickers) containing a method to work around cases 1 and 2, but, sadly, there's no way to create a custom sticker for a level badge which looks correct in all cases.

Stickers created using the PS Eye are already in a 1:1 aspect ratio, so are unaffected by this.
