Dawn Metropolis (DEMO)

Yes its finally out!! But sadly its just a demo of the game. So if you havent heard about my project, well heres the story.
You play the life of Donald J. Noble who has been enrolled to the worlds biggest high school. He meets the gang leaders of the school (Nerds,Skaters,Jocks,Band Geeks, Thespians,Goths) and they ask him for help with thier "prank" to the principal Mr.M. However things dont go too well and Donald is framed. Yet Mr.M has offered a deal, Get the people involved and he'll forget this ever happened.
So what the demo basically covers is the controls of the game. There is combat and platforming tutorial and introduction to some of the characters.

This level still needs work. I guess that's why it's a demo.

First, there are a bunch of grammar issues. Second, I got to the point where Donald says, "Let's see if you can fight." I opened the door, the screen went black, but nothing else happened. Is this the end of the demo? If it is, it seems rather short and has an abrupt end to it.

However, I really liked how much detail you spent on pretty much the entire level.

thats odd, once you grab the door, you where suppose to go to another part of the level, i guess i have to fix that, and can you list the grammar issues so i can fix them?

Ahhh, a very nice start! The sackbots played very smoothly, and the details in your levels are amazing! I look forward to the finished product!

I can see there's a bit of an odd transition between the very start and the first main menu selection. To get your scenes starting at the very beginning (before the level even loads!), try attaching a 'not' gate to the sequencer (make sure you deselect the sequencer and break the not gate when you playtest your lvl, otherwise it'll drive you nuts. It's a little TOO effective!). Also, to hide the parts where you 'jump into' the bots, try fading to darkness for the time he jumps into the bot, then back to normal lighting (world lighting switch placed on a sequencer with a movie camera set to controller freeze).

The intro is.. a little lengthy. But it's touching. I love it. Please continue! You got great stuff! ^^

yeah i actually tried going up those glass stairs, and its really hard, so anyway to answer spikehead777, i saw no problem with the door, i just grabbed it and it automatically went to the other level so i dont know whats wrong2011-03-14 06:24:00

Cool Intro btw I loved it, with the city background looked awesome.

The freerunning felt cool, good use of the double jump.
The fighting part, was ok but one part kinda got to me like, if you press square or Circle repeatly, it still does the damage but the punch action like glitch, like it doesnt show the action, other than that liked the scenery, Liked the costumes. Cant wait to see where this is gonna go im curious about the story, but I know this is a demo so I wait the full version

A great level and good game mechanics. The intro was great as well as the gameplay. I guess something might be doable to make smoother, like the delay between the lines in the intro, but thats up for the perfectionist, no real need to anything about it. Looking forward for the continue.

As I said in the review, this level and it's mechanisms are great and I look forward for its continue. As for the delays between the lines in the intro, this is something I noticed pretty quick and might be hypersensitve about, and personally don't know if I can do anything like this better or even equally good, so keep up the good work.

well thanks for the feedback so far guys, im just need to add one more part for the demo, and then i can make the full game

As for the delays between the lines in the intro, this is something I noticed pretty quick and might be hypersensitve about,
can you tell me what are the delays between the lines so i can fix them?

Well your project looks extremely interesting: the cutscenes are nice even though a bit more movement of the sackbots would be good, the gameplay features are good and could lead to an impressive project. The only drawbacks are maybe the fact that you can see the player entering the sackbot everytime, and also the extreme use of multiple levels which is quite strange. I'm sure you could optimize everything and have less loading. Maybe you don't know but the loading of a separate level sometimes fails so your demo could get cut short by a 'loading failed' error. This is really good, but the first cutscene is too long, in my opinion. Also you shouldn't use that much levels, it could get messy if your connection is bad!

okay i got the things that will be fixed ASAP
-Spawning of the sackbot
-Trying to a least fit the combat tutorial and free running tutorial into one level
- fix of some of the dialog

okay guys i been planning out the game so far, and this is how it will go, there will be a prologue (you already played half of it) and 6 chapters. Each chapter will focus on one gang leader. The game will be mostly filled with cut-scenes and game-play, so you might expect some 4-5 minute cut-scenes. If the series is very successful, there might be add-ons2011-03-18 04:38:00

so i fixed some of the parts of the game, i made the levels dark till you spawn at the sackbot so you dont see yourself getting in. sadly i couldnt mash the combat and freerunnig tutorial together, because, well lets just say the outcome wasnt preety2011-03-20 01:36:00

Thanks for the feedback of "Cybernetic Adventures Beta". Since this is a demo, I'll just skip a VISUALS, SOUND, and GAMEPLAY part in this thread and tell you more on what needs to be fixed. The level has neat visuals and interesting sackbots. The scene with a guy and a girl could be a bit shorter by lowering some movie camera length one second short, same goes with the scene where you encounter the two guys. The grammar needs to improve, too. One major bug I found is the first gap you have to jump through that I fell out of the level and ended up in the background's floor. You need to somehow add a gas or a invisible plasma to the hole. I couldn't beat the level because of the gap and I tried to retry, but I couldn't open the popit menu, but I'm sure you'll fix all this in the final version. Keep it up.2011-03-20 19:44:00

When it gets dark after the jumping phase and before the "fight" phase... it just stayed dark permanently for me.

It was looking good until then ;(

K I did play this a bit ago when u asked me but I just got to writing this now.

K so truthfully I was impressed. The concept is there and the story is interesting. It's the level design that could use work.
-Firstly you need to cut down on materials, your killing the thermo. If you want the look of that material, make a sticker. Limit yourself to maybe 7 materials max.
-WAY too many lvl links! There is no reason (unless your killing your thermo) to use that many levels on a normal lvl, let alone a demo! Your limited to a max of twenty levels remember?
-Glass stairs... really? -_- well if your intent on that modern glass look add a material tweaker to the glass a up the glasses friction (and if that doesnt work put a peice of of invisible dark matter over top so we get traction)
-Ok you bought LBP2 and you still using death based teleporter? Look for a deathless teleporter or join me sometime and I'll give you one, death is not the way.
-I don't know if you do or not, but if you do, u need to use it more. Use the grid function, it's acurate and saves you from nearly all design flaws.
-Spell check is all i can say, it does matter

That's my critique on how to fix the negatives, as for the rest such as the wall runner sackbot, the opening cut and just the general concept of the lvl, there all great! ^^
Just work on touching up the design aspect then it will be super ^^
