How many dedicated creators are out there... REALLY

Archive: 39 posts

It seems every time I ask someone to help me with a level or I help them, they always drop out or stop coming over to work on the level.

Where are the mature teens and adults who actually get the job done? I believe I am in this category of dedicators. The "Jump In" Button is no use when trying to find creating partners and the "Find other happy Gadders" forum is basically useless because the people who say they will help never do completely.

I just want people who actually finish their levels and have good plays on them to post their feedback. It seems like it's impossible for me to find a creating partner who ACTUALLY HAS TIME, DEDICATION, and CREATIVITY.

Hey! Over here dude! Whatcha need 'elp with? Well I just wanted to create a decent level with someone or just chill out in create mode making weird things.
I'm also working on the second part of my rpg level and I could use some help with that.

Just to clarify. Plays, in NO WAY whatsoever mean someones a good creator.

it depends on what you mean by dedicated. looking at this site, i'd say it's more obsession than dedication, and that's what you need2011-03-13 20:19:00

what MM have here and Sony saw it (which is why they bought MM) is their answer to Flash. the first game was a level designer and the second game is a game designer. LBP3 will be a development tool. this is where LBP is going. those that are obsessed will create unbelievable things in LBP2 and will have an enormous advantage over people when LBP3 hits. once what i've predicted is implemented (third/first person view, and i'm not talking glitch here) then LBP2 will become the de-facto tool for most of those with a creative bent. i think with LBP3, the tools will be split into beginners/advanced/expert. now add into this the ability to save those games out, along with the code for the actual game, and then sell them separately from LBP.Me (with some of the royalties going to Sony) and you get the long term picture2011-03-13 20:30:00

Umm, what does this have to do with dedication? Just asking.

I'd like to be a dedicated creator but this is my first year in college, and I can't slack off one bit :/. Besides I'm better at the visuals in the levels I make.2011-03-13 21:20:00

I think everybody could be a good creator if they take the time to learn everything about how the tools in LittleBigPlanet works, are capable of creating stable and good logic with them and are able to put all that into a good, themed level design.
The problem is, not many people take that much time. I like fiddling around with logic (and it actually works well quite often), but my designing skills are a bit meh. But I'm working on it.

I wouldn't say peoples plays really dictate whether they are dedicated or not. I have zero levels, but I consider myself dedicated. I make nice things. They look nice, they function nice and most of the time they are unbreakable by any means in play mode. But I'm just not good at creating whole levels. I have zero levels, not because I'm lazy. But because I don't have a single, full level to publish. And theres no need to rush and fill LBP up with crap. There's enough of it everywhere else. So maybe instead of basing your search off of levels/plays you should ask "What have you made?" and if it sounds interesting "May I see it?"2011-03-13 21:32:00

I'm quite dedicated. I don't have a lot of plays or hearts but I believe my quality is greatly improving and have multiple projects in the works right now and have even decided to focus much more on horror themes and such.2011-03-13 21:39:00

Ya know that would be cool if there was a competition with 3 ppl like, a Logistics, a designer, and a Thinker. There probably is one though.

It seems like a lot of people think of creating a level as a job. If people dont like makeing levels or get bored they just quit. Also, their real lives can easaly interfear with their gameing time, and a ingery (like a broken finger) can cause the creater to slow down, and not be as dedicated.
Well, going more on topic:
I am Dedicated on the levels i work one, well, if i dont quit in the first five minutes. starting is always the hard part, at least for me.

I'm a pretty distracted creator. Going from one project to the next, constantly changing theme.
I never dedicate myself to any group project anymore because I know I'm just not reliable.

There's nothing wrong with that though, I enjoy impulse creating.

I think most of the dedicated creators work on their own stuff.
I don't have the time to work on both my stuff and someone else's.

I have a lot of time to play with but not really got into co create besides in the online beta but since then I've not really got together with any of my friends to make anything sadly even though it was fun making levels together. We actualy built different parts of the level and it was fun, we all had different talent where I was missing with visual design they were really good in that area.
Depending on the level is question would always depend on whether or not I actually want to help with the level but of course if its one of those things that interest me and I have some talent and use for the level well I wouldn't walk out on anyone, not at all.
Kinda sad though that people give up and peole quit but it takes a lot of time and effort to make and create a good level so I can understand why people would give up and just quit.

I consider myself a "dedicated" creator (30+ hours a week in create mode), but I would never co-create with anyone. I like to have 100% creative control, and I don't think there's a single creator out there whose style would be compatible with my own. Well, there is one, but there would be complications in working together, so...no...just no.

Let's just say that if you ever need help with your level, don't bother asking Ungreth.

i really think there is a lot of people who make levels with guts, but its hard to find it really, lots of people dont want to get massive amount of hours on this kind of stuff, in my country most of the people think its really idiot thing to do... so its hard, for me, i spend lots of hours (really lots...) i work, i do college, and the rest of my time (almost all) is not easy, not at all, its hard, and pain, but i like it, i should say, i love it! i spend like 5 hour (at least) per day, weekend is almost the entire day, I give up going out with friends once in a while, cause i want my job to be just awesome!
even if my level dont get famous (or the MM pick of my dreams... lol) i just keep going, because when i finish it, i can look at it, and say: THATS AWESOME! AND I DID IT!

and about make levels with another person, is really cool, REALLY COOL, but at the same time, its hard, i did a level with a friend of mine, and went smoothly, but with more people, its more and more harder, when i find out about Hansen & Gretelbot, and saw what they did as a team, i think that was just crazy!too many people with their own opinions... how they got the team all together, i really dont know! but its a big concern!

With great power comes great responsibility... lol

I was a quitter in LBP1, my projects always ended in failure, I know what it's like when nobody wants to help you, I'm currently busy creating my levels now though, but I might drop in and see what you need help with. 2011-03-14 22:45:00

No-one does a level without inspiration. If you have inspiration and you are VERY keen about it, you'll never finish the level well. If you have inner inspiration (for example: You like heavy metal very much and want to do the level around it) you'll usually get level finished. If you have slight inspiration and you think: ''Hey, that's an OK idea'' level is much easier to finish even if you lose your inspiration. So finding a partner for something you have strong inspiration to is quite unlikely.2011-03-15 06:40:00
