Any way to get a completely still sackbot?

Archive: 8 posts

I've tried all sorts of methods, with look-at tags and recorded actors, but they always jiggle about, which isn't any good when you're wanting to represent a dead body! Does anyone know of any way, a glitch perhaps, to capture or emit a sackbot without them ever moving? My song has the rhyming line "in hospital, his body so still," and I don't think I cane rewrite an entire verse to accomodate moving sackbots and still keep the pathos.2011-03-12 20:51:00

You can build a fake bot out of decorations (kinda), but there's not been a way found to make them stop moving yet.2011-03-12 21:00:00

Emiting and destroyig in both "Appear/ Dissapear" options really fast seems to give a rather good "frozen" animation, be warned tho, they can't have poses like this, as they dissapear before having a chance to "get into the pose."2011-03-12 21:08:00

Thanks Silverleon. I'll give that a go. Just thinking synchronising cross-faded cameras may also smooth out the look.

@ Louis - Sadly unless I made my kid look like a sackbot with googly eyes stuck on, that wouldn't give quite the right effect.

The way I did it was to set the bot to the Eve animation (which stands pretty still compared to the others), stuck a controllinator on it and wired batteries into the L2 and R2 buttons along with the thumbsticks and tweaked them to get into the pose I wanted. Unless you're zoomed in pretty close, it looks like it's holding perfectly still. It still blinks its eyes though, which I got around by using the sleepy eyes and stickering them the same color as the skin.

Nicely done Sehven! I've been trying to get this effect too. I know that you can turn them on their side too, if you stick a gravity object thing and set it to the maximum settings. You could also use a gyroscope at an odd angle - if this helps.2011-03-12 23:40:00

If you do that, make sure you click L3 on its controllinator so that its head doesn't try to point up.

Silverleon's solution works better than I hoped though! There's no flickering as I thoguht there would be; someone a while back, maybe Foofles, was asking how to get an object to disappear and appear in the same space without flickering. Dunno what's changed. I've used an emitter with zero delay, 0,1s life, appear and disappear, remove new with old. It's like a static SB, although in a default pose. But that's ideal for my uses.
