Yet another shooter.

This time, there are some nice visual effects, better controls and more polish.
Take a look:

I should also have a gameplay video soon.

Play, rate accordingly and give feedback!

Played your level and had fun with it, i really liked the retro look and the gameplay was nice. There are two things that i would change though: First off there is no multiplayer support, i went in with a friend and she was stuck outside watching. Considering the overall structure of the level i believe that you should be able to support 2 players without much trouble. Another thing is the fact that you have one-life only: having more lives (no more than 3 though) would improve the level in my opinion.
Overall nice work !

Please return feedback to my latest shooter level : The Red Baron strikes back http://lbp.me/v/yw22sw in the related F4F thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=52800-The-Red-Baron-strikes-back).
Thanks.

I would love to have multiplayer support, but sadly, it causes too much lag. The fact that you have one life is actually a smart trick. Play blast radius with its 5(?) lives and then play this, see which one you'll play more.

After doing a single play of this mini-game, here's what I have to say about it.

This is a decent mini-game.

You kept with the retro theme with the music, and graphics. It wasn't all over the place, like some other levels I have played. The music also fit the general speed and tension of the mini-game as well. I didn't notice any issues while playing. This mini-game is pretty good, but to be honest, I don't see myself coming back to play it over and over again; survival challenge is not one of my favorite genres.

Hehe. Yeah, it get's the cheesy eighties arcade shooter feel alright! Especially the music. But I think you should work a bit on the presentation before you enter gameplay.
The menu is nice, it's not that, but all of a sudden there was a large lump of darkmatter and an entrance there for a split second. It doesn't take long to just cover stuff like that up with som rubber. Other than that, great time killing!

I mentioned in my comment that there is some jitteryness on the camera... couldn't tell what was causing it. make sure the camera player tracking setting is at 0%.2011-03-14 03:37:00

I'm not sure what to say about this level, as I'm not much into the kinda games, but for a one-shot I had a good time.
I don't have much intrest in these games, but the one-shot experience where good, and as the title says, you really are and feel pretty surrounded, especially when you are getting a little bit into the game.

Glitch withing the game sadly, it wasn't working any other way

(As I wrote in-game)

"Pretty much flawless in terms of gameplay. It provides a tight, focused design that ramps up the pace nicely, and the ship controls jsut right - very responsive so you feel more that it's something you're fighting WITH rather than against. I'm always startled by how many shooters get the basic feel of the ship/character/etc wrong, but not here. If I had to nitpick, I'd say there's a brief flash just before play starts where you can see sackboy/entrance - maybe add a bit of masking to stop that slight jar?"

Obviously you know about the flash before gameplay starts, so I'm not sure what else I can add really. I like this a lot, and I'm not one for shooters really. It's a great amalgamation of music and light, and the ship feels like an extension of the player once you get going.

Check the level in my sig if you find the time for a little F4F.

Wow it was good

+I loved the music, great job
+the graphics are much smoother and nicer on this version

-seems that at some point its just impossible to continue? Can you make different "Levels"? instead of just adding more enemies onscreen?
-the character model is a pentagon which makes me think that it has a front, but it can shoot any direction --- this seems strange to me.
-consider retiring old stuff to make more onscreen time for harder stuff
----example, the stars should go when the boxes appear, and make the boxes faster. this will allow you to feel like there is more progression instead of just throwing stuff onscreen

Overall:
I loved it ! I can't wait to see whats next.

F4F: Can you play my sig and tell me what you think? You played my original version, but I've made many upgrades! I appreciate more feedback.

Many people suggested to make the shooting like this, after they played Frantic. So after seeing how it worked in a level I made for a competition I decided to strip off the theme and make it into this. And well to be honest after playing this way I can't go back.

The suggestion of levels: I don't think that's a good idea since essentially it loses the surrounded part of the that way!

I've queued your levels.

Super level, I'm dead keen on these retro shooters - especially SHMUPS like this

No bugs that I could see, and the graphics, physics and music were spot-on.

A sheet of rubber over the entrance checkpoint would hide the jarring camera pan at the start. The title screen felt kind of redundant - this sorta game is better when you can just jump straight in without loading screens etc. My only complaint with the gameplay is the arbitrary scoring - all the enemies are equally easy to kill, but some get you way more points than others. Perhaps you could make some of the enemies tougher, to mix things up a bit?

That said, I'll be going back to it for a few more plays. Great stuff

I've considered tougher so many times, but it simply doesn't work. What I'm trying to do is make shooters which get the basics of twin-stick shooters right. Once you have that, you can add new mechanics. However, my levels are never clustered with gameplay elements, once you do, you take away some of the appeal. So right now the only reason you get more points for them is because they take up more space.

I'll cover up the antimatter since everyone mentions it

I'll queue your level.

Thanks for the feedback Vogan, guess you're not a big GeometryWars fan eh

One thing I forgot to mention - most of the sounds on the level are so quiet as to be almost inaudible (compared to the rest of LBP content) - perhaps a volume boost or disabling 'spacial sounds' would help? Just a thought

I don't know. In fact, the only top-down games I've ever played are SSHD which I hated and the levels in LBP. Yet people are comparing my levels to all kinds of classics!2011-03-15 22:42:00

This level has some great visual effects but the controls are alittle glitchy for example when i went into the wall i couldnt move. But the progression of dificulty
was planed out really well. Keep up the good work.

I played your level again and I had some more comments:

Let me start off my saying that I really liked it, as you can see by how many times I've played, but:

I liked the intro music more than the music it switched to when playing -- and that music when playing is not very audible too. And... did you remove a weapon? I remember liking that weapon more than the 3 multishot one. The 3 multishot one is very useless, to be honest.

Oh and before my level wouldn't load for you to F4F... ~ haha maybe give it another go -- I reduced the thermo a lot for junk I didnt need.
