Want your level filmed? Apply here! (Read entire first post)

Archive: 224 posts

Please read the whole thread before posting

First off, let me clarify: Posting here does not guarantee your level will be filmed. All it does is add you to the list that filmers can pick from. Levels of higher quality will take priority over levels of lower quality, so please keep that in mind when posting.

Now that that's over, welcome to the film request thread. Some guidelines:

If you post here, make sure you are somewhat active on these forums. You must have at least 30% activity* to qualify, except in odd cases, during which a site filmer will decide if the user is active enough. This is a service for our active members, not so much people who just want publicity. Plus, it really sucks to try to contact someone and not getting a reply for a week or more.
If you plan to reach the activity requirement, do not post your level until you do. We can't check your name every day to see if you ever reached it.
You must have a thread for your level before posting here.
Make sure your level is in a (somewhat) final stage. This doesn't mean you won't be doing some tweaking afterwards, but make sure everything major is in before you add your level to this list.
If you fail to reply to a pm about filming your level within three days, make sure you have a good reason such as vacation. Please be honest. Otherwise, your level will be removed from eligibility.
When filling out the request, make sure your link works before submitting. If you used the search feature to find your thread, delete everything in the link after the last & including the &(will contain &highlight=your search terms here)
Our services are not limited to levels, but also any impressive objects you would like filmed. You will still need a thread if you want us to film an object.

*Activity level can be found by clicking on your name in any of your posts and looking toward the bottom of the drop-down menu, at the part labelled Activity. Alternately, go to your profile and select LittleBigExperience. If you find your activity isn't high enough, you can raise it by posting more.

The official site filmers (myself, moleynator, phizzy, and muttjones) will follow these guidelines when going through the filming process:

Having this thread does not mean you don't need to converse with the level creators. All it does is eliminate the need to sift through pages.
After you make a video, remove the level from the list. You can do this yourself, you have the ability to edit posts in this forum. Make sure to add the level to the list in the Site Filmer forum.
After making the video, post in the level's thread saying it is up or something along those lines. This is meant mainly as a bump, as most of these threads will not be on the front page.

I'd like to play around with it in WMM, as he would like me to conceal some parts. Also, we may need to do some practice runs together, as there are two paths to the level, each with their own scoreboard.2008-11-26 02:44:00

I have a question, if you don't mind answering.

When do you think you'll be able to film my level should it be good enough? Not asking for a deadline of any sort, just perhaps a general date?

Your level doesn't need to qualify for anything. He's fliming levels to help us Happy Gadders out. I believe you have to discuss a filming date with him.

Really?

That's not anything like the happy, video-viewing future I imagined...

Luckily that will never be an issue for me.

Well, it all depends on how active each filmer is. Right now I believe me and moleynator are the only ones who have filmed for others, so unless it picks up we may have to just handpick the best ones out of the choices. I hope we can have a happy video-viewing future. 2008-11-26 04:14:00

Meh. I don't think it should be a problem. I don't think there will ever be a time when you guys have to much on the plate. And besides, it's not like no one else has a video camera, right? I'm sure everybody will be able to get their levels recorded. I mean, how long could it really take to record a level, right?

*prepares for brutally long, intense explanation for how wrong I am*

Lol, here we go then. I'm sure it varies from person to person, but my personal experience goes like this, assuming I have no problems: First, you have to get the equipment set up, which is no problem, and load up the necesary programs. Then you start recording, and you have to make sure it's a decent run, so the harder the level, the longer this part takes. So far, not too bad. Now this next part wouldn't be too bad, but i have to transfer around to three different computers for completely stupid reasons. On the laptop I recorded on, I have to transfer the .avi file to my jump drive(takes a few minutes, since its 500+mb), and I transfer to the school laptop, where I edit in the LBPCentral logo. When I go to save it, that takes about an hour. Then I transfer to my desktop computer, where I convert to .mp4 format and upload to youtube. A bit harder than you might think, but then again, because of my stupid computer situation, I have to make it harder than you think. It takes a while regardless, though.2008-11-26 04:24:00

Stuck, for obvious reasons.

By the way, guys, this is the work of the official site filmers. Only they will be filming your level, and I can vouch for each of them. Make use of this, as they are being very generous.

Hey I wouldnt mind my Sackhouette levels filmed. Someone filmed a good run through of the Beta version (off screen with added music though), but then some stoner kid has put up awful reviews of them so some genuine quality run throughs would be a massively appreciated counterpoint! I'm very proud of them and think they'd make for great run throughs!

You must have at least 30% activity to qualify, except in odd cases, during which a site filmer will decide if the user is active enough.

Sorry mate, I know I filmed your last level, but the rules have changed, and I can't make exceptions for people that really aren't all that active.

Gee that sucks... ah well... I'm on here everyday with at least a post everyday (or weekdays anyway) - I don't know how I can be more active than that... how is the activity level calculated anyway? Still if those are the rules - no worries...2008-12-06 02:45:00

Well, it depends on how long you are on here(paying attention, not just a window open), and I think posts play a part too. To be honest, most people get a few more than 1 post per day.

You aren't that far off, it would only take about 3 days or so to get up to 30% without being unreasonably active. When that happens lemme know and I'll add your level to the list.

"Awake after midnight"-

Sorry, I keep trying to record it, but because I have to go through 2 systems (PS3 and DVD recorder) to get to the tv when I record, it makes the timing delayed. For example, if I jump it takes about half a second to respond. That doesnt sound like much, but it does affect it a lot.

I cant record the "which way is up?" level either as it has several platforms in a row that disappear and you need to jump of of them very quickly to progress.

Well, I've finally got my first full unlocked level up. I don't know how to make a youtube video, so I greatly appreciate this service.

Please don't use the stickers you would find at the end to activate the secret stuff while filming. I want it to be a special bonus surprise for the diligent.

One more point, there is a locked version of this level which is the unpolished version. You get the key from finishing the proper version. Please don't film the wrong one! If you see a tree at the start and hear music, then you are in the right version. If you don't it's the old version which is only there for teaching purposes. The other one is called "A journey through a digestive tract - Unpolished version" and has a different sticker. :o

Could I respectfully ask delaying the filming of my "A Journey through a digestive tract" level until I can get the level running more smoothly?

Feedback is suggesting that the level is good, but one part is really letting it down. It will probably take a fair bit of work to implement the changes to fix it.

I'll likely be patching in a simplified version soon, but I would really like the whole level to be working more smoothly before it gets filmed and broadcasted on YouTube.

I'll keep the filmers informed as the patching work gets down and how people respond to these changes.

I've put in the temporary simplified version of the small intestine in the live version of my level, but it's no where near the same in terms of visual impact. I'll keep working on getting the full version fixed and then ask for the level to be filmed then. If it ends up that it just can't be fixed, then I'll re-request the level be filmed. 2008-12-14 18:05:00

Ah I see. Here's what I've got: First I take the A/V cords from the PS3, and plug them into three separate Y-adapters(1 female, two male ends). I take one of the male ends from each to plug into the TV. I take the other male ends and plug them into my Dazzle DVC 80 (http://www.etronics.com/p-8449-dazzle-dvc-80-digital-video-creator.aspx?dp=F2C20252E6624253C38363C3B357037363 7323230303&svbname=403&bname=GoogleBase),which plugs into my laptop to record it. I use a program called Fx VidCap to record.

If you're lucky you can get the Dazzle DVC 80 for $20 on ebay. They're really hard to find now though. Everything these days is better quality, and really expensive.

Also, if you wait near the scoreboard instead of activating it, a jetpack will drop down and let you fly up to checkout a screengrab of the entire level, complete with all the offscreen switches used to make the machines work.

I'm allowed to use my own judgement to decide if someone is active enough, and I say you are.

After all, you are Yarbone.

Oh, and I might as well mention that I'm going to get to work again on the list today. I'll hopefully be able to get 2 or 3 done today.

Don't worry, Ham. Even if you're eligible they still probably won't put you on the list. How do you know you're at 30% activity anyway? 30% of what? 30% reply to thread post ratio? 30% of the first member's posts?

Like - I've got 99 posts, and I'm not on the list. Shining Aquas has 95, and is on the list.

Not to begrudge anyone anything, but it just depends on who you know, as the rules are pretty irrelevant.

You're right. The whole thing is just favoritism, based on nothing.

Look, the first post says nothing about how many posts you have. You need 30% activity to qualify. To check activity, simply click on your username in any of your posts and a small window will pop up. Your activity is the last thing in this window. 30% isn't too hard, you might even have it now. I can't check because I'm on my Ipod. But when you requested your level you didn't have 30%.

Oh, and Hamsalad is on my friends list, and I added him, not the other way around. So it isn't favoritism.

Oh, and his activity is 30%, not 36%. You're looking at how far he is into the level.

For being so sarcastic earlier, you'd think detecting the sarcasm in my post would be your forte. Regardless, you didn't add me until I specifically pointed out that certain people get put on and certain one's don't.

It really isn't a big deal if you do or don't. The level's so old now that filming it would be pointless.

I just happened to see HamSalad apologizing for "wasting your time" and felt he was lowering himself to someone when he shouldn't be sorry for making a request. After skimming through the thread and seeing the assertive and authoritative "read the rules people" post (as if it were an exclusive honor to be bestowed on those deemed worthy of thy time) I realized what a sham trying to be patient and polite was, and decided to infer that he not be so humble or expect anything to change down the line. He could either pester or beg, and neither is becoming.

Nothing personal, but BS is noxious and it's odor is distinct.

Sir Galahad to the rescue... technically, I wasn't giving him grief to begin with and nobody's saying that he isn't. Exactly what time am I wasting? Nobody's done anything, nobody's planning on doing anything, and the queue won't change regardless of anything I do or do not say; So who's time am I wasting? My time? Yours? Time taken to reply here?

Allow me to humble myself in a similar fashion to Ham Salad. I apologize with the utmost sincerity for wasting your time. It's a terrible shame that you had to take time out of your busy schedule to post this single reply in hopes of perpetuating this waste of time.

Are we done playing one up now?

I was trying to be nice. Is that so bad?

You're absolutely right, hamsalad shouldn't have been sorry, it was an honest mistake and he didn't waste my time. And you don't seem to understand how long it takes to get a video up. It takes a while, trust me, and while it isn't an honor, it's not something I can give to any random person who joins and wants a video. Unless the team suddenly got a ton of people added.

And no, pestering or begging couldn't do any good. The only thing that would help is getting to 30% then posting saying so.

Also, your post previously said something about your level not being added until you said something, before you editted that comment out. I've already addressed this, but allow me to go more in depth. I cannot take the time to look at everyone who has ever applied every day to see if they've reached 30%, it's impractical. At the time you requested your level, you did not have 30%. Thus, you were ineligible then. However, when you attained 30%, you should have posted here saying so, and then I would have added your video.

Now, do you want your video on the list or not? Simple yes or no, please.

No worries, man. Look, Bass. This wasn't meant to be a big argument or an attack on you. I always end up trying to root for the underdog in a situation and come out swingin', which usually escalates things into a bigger deal than it was. If I think I see someone getting picked on, or putting themselves down, I jump to their defense. It's just message board protocol...

I'm not even worried about the video, really, but thanks anyway and keep up the good work whenever you can.

Wow, you guys really need to read some posts before you post. The last 12 posts or so were talking about the activity rate you need to be eligible. Seriously, BassDeluxe and the whole gang do a great job here filming levels. You guys should take the time to read the first post.

30% Activity isn't hard guys, seriously first day I joined I went on a massive posting spree ( it wasn't spam trust me ) and got 30% in about 4-5 hours.

I'm not trying to argue, pick on, put anyone down. But take into consideration that people have lives, and they can't check this thread every minute to see if you have met the requirements.

Don't take this the wrong way people.

Great job BassDeluxe, to all your filming and such.

And btw, as BassDeluxe mentioned, he gets to make the final judgement on whether the person deserves it, and I can tell that Shining Aquas does indeed deserve it, whether he meets the requirements or not. He takes time to review people's levels, with great depth too.

That, and at the time he posted he had 30% activity.

I think the only exception I made so far was Yarbone, and he has some 500 posts and 28% activity...so yeah. I think it was fair.

Oh, well the activity thing is a bit weird, it shows you the current activity rate, and not the activity rate at which time it was posted. So he has like 27% right now or something.

.

I try to post alot, but I pretty much stay only in the showcase/idea/review/recommend/projects sections so I rarely have small talk to increase my count and I wasn't here before the game came out. My posts are usually very long, even if I don't make many. Between creating sessions I try and cram in about 3 or 4 levels

The first day I joined I got a warning and an infraction. That was my first impression of the site, and it seems to be a continued trend of "I don't know you, so get stuffed." That probably influenced me trying to champion another new person here who I thought was getting the old hazing treatment.

Well I have nothing to say about the warning and infraction, and there was obviously a reason you got them. But that's DEFINATELY NOT how it is here. Ask anyone here, they'll tell you the exact same thing, that the forums are one of the friendliest there is. Now, I don't know what people are doing to you to make you think that if you're not known, you get jumped. But a lot of new people can agree with me when I say that, that's not how it is here.

Second, I was not implying that you didn't make great huge long amazing posts. No way was that intended, even if it seemed like it to you. I was just saying, that you used yourself, and Shining Aquas as an example, and I was stating that even if Shining Aquas had 20% well below 30, he would still probably get a review, seeing as he does contribute a great deal by reviewing levels in great depth.

So, if you still feel the same way, I'd like to be the first to say let's start new, shake hands. And maybe I'll add you and we can play sometime?

Don't worry about it mate. We're not trying to get into an argument here. Besides, you are active enough to get a level filmed. Even if you weren't technically active enough, I would still probably add your level because I know you're pretty active and that you give useful feedback on so many levels. At the time you posted your request, though, you were still relatively new and I hadn't really seen you enough to deem you active.

I had a similiar experience and it sucked but I was able to contact the admins and explain my case and they were pretty fair. I don't want to stray from the topic so I think we should get back to filming the vids... otherwise... they might get angry... they are watching O_O

I can actually vouch for "I don't know, so get stuffed". A lot of good levels are being overlooked just because a person isn't prolific and posts random crap at a failed attempt at "humor".

Stick with it, bud. There's nice people here. They're not nearly ALL like that.

Well that's the problem, a lot of people on the forums just post their information, about the level, and they only come back to reply to their own thread. I'm not pointing fingers at all, but that is mainly the reason why a lot of levels get overlooked. I know OCK, Chaz, Bass and I try our best to review levels, but really. Four people for about 2000 members just isn't enough.

The Spotlight Crew and CC have been discussing what we can do. The only reason we can think of is the review4review system. But really? You can't force anyone, we can give positive feedback for such things. But that's really it.

You are not meeting the activity requirement, Sonic5411. If you click your own name you can see your activity level. The people who film the levels are basically volunteering their time and service, so they have requirements to be met. It's basically them giving their time in recognition for other active forum people. I'm not saying it's an exclusive club though, they do make exceptions at times, but that is at their discretion.

How do you increase your percentage? Get more active!

---

I've reflected on my digestion tract level. I think I would like to have it filmed now. I know that I've said that I would like to change some sections, but at the moment it's working now. If I keep on just working on old stuff, I'll never be making new stuff or innovating.

---

Bass, if you reading this (I am sure you are) you might want to consider changing the thread title. For those that don't know better it sounds like you are offering to film any and everyone's level, all they need to do is post. Changing the title to say something like you need to read the first post and fill out the form should help.

In the first post you might want to include a bit more information about what an activity level is and how they can easily access that information as well. There seems to be a lot of confusion about this post.

If you really want to make it absolutely clear that people understand the activity requirements, make it a middle part of the form they need to fill out to get a video film. Saying they understand the activity levels, are at the requirements and by deleting this line agree to it might help further clear up confusion as well. That way people definitely cannot say that they were not told, as they would be posting a line saying that they agree.

Something like: "I agree to the 30% activity requirement and understand what this means". Maybe leave it in the form. I don't know, I'm just tossing around some ideas to try and help people understand the situation better.

And thanks once again for you and your team providing this service. As someone who cannot easily film levels but enjoy watching good videos, I personally appreciate the hard work you guys do for us.

I think you'll find Sonic5411 did not reply to this thread as it looks like someone has merged the thread techzone made asking if anyone needed there level filmed he would be happy to help. techzone's thread did not have any requirements so Sonic was fine to post there.

I think whoever merged this should of made it more clear as techzone is not an official Site Filmer and has only just joined and wanted to help some people.

Some good ideas. I'll go edit it into the first post.

I'd like to post and thank you once again for recording my level, Super Sack Adventure. Thanks to you I was able to get noticed by Media Molecule, and now I feel motivated to make more levels.

Good luck, to all of you. : D I may be coming back soon, once I finish a level I've been working on...

It appears all the filmers are either incredibly busy or incredibly lazy (neither is necessarily entirely their fault. Not entirely anyway...). Either way, I now feel the need to ask:

What do you guys use to film the levels? Like, programs and hardware and the like.

I ask because of the slight off-chance that I might be able to help.

Well, I use a Dazzle DVC 80 connected to a laptop to record, then I use a program called Fx VidCap to capture the video, another program which I think is called MX VideoWave or something to edit it, then Allok Video to MP4 to convert to MP4 format. Then I upload it to youtube.2009-01-18 22:17:00

I know that we obviously can't do it for everyone who shows up merely to showcase their level and then leave due to time and budget constraints (in moley's case at least)- however, I need to say that I don't really like the 30% activity way of doing things.

I know we need some sort of limit, but activity is just... a weird way of doing it, especially since many mods and such don't even have that so, heck, even lbp himself wouldn't be able to if he wanted to!

I realize we need a limit, but... I unno what a better one would be, besides the site filmer's best judgement, but even then it may be unsure :/. ... I unno, just has been bothering me.

That's why we have the phrase "or otherwise deemed active by a Site Filmer" in there. If lbp or Mark D. Stroyer(both of which fall short of 30%) were to request a level to be filmed, we would obviously do it. And the same goes for anyone who is obviously a forum regular.2009-01-18 23:31:00

Yea I just joined today after being told I should showcase my stuff here, yea I thought I might not be eligible to have my level filmed because of that reason alone. I've been on the 1up boards for 4yrs now so I am a game forum poster (in a way) but have a looksee at my work and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've had people who arent Starwars fans tell me how much they like my level, I've had people who don't even own LBP who tell me that they'd consider buying it based on my creations alone and every once and awhile I have people message me randomly for a sneak peak at my newest project. Just take a look at my post linked to the request to be filmed, my pics are up and I'd be greatful to anyone who deems my work worthy of being filmed, I plan on sticking around these boards as a creator and a LBP player.

Oh, sorry for snapping, you must have misunderstood. That phrase (which, by the way, is as so: "You must have at least 30% activity* to qualify, except in odd cases, during which a site filmer will decide if the user is active enough.") means that if a site filmer deems you active enough, you will qualify. Not so much if a site filmer deems your work good enough. Though, of course, if a Site Filmer really wants to film it, they still can, but it wouldn't be because of this thread. >.>

Basically, it means that if you're one of those odd cases who has 500 posts but somehow doesn't have the activity limit, you'd still be accepted. I encourage you to reach the activity limit, it's not hard.

Here is a video that someone did showing the exact setup that I use http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/59014.html
also I have been known to use Pinnacle Studio and cyberlink power director to edit the videos that I have done... hope that helps

Maybe you need to change the last line of the form from: "By posting this form I certify that I have read the rules." to something like:

By posting this form I certify that I have read the rules, especially the part about activity recommendations before requesting this level to be filmed.

Something like that. I am sure Bassdeluxe can think of a good way to word it.

Yeah I am. What do you mean? I need feedback.

In regards to mrjoeyman, people are surprised that you have written out the request when the first post talks about an activity recommendation before requesting your level being filmed, and the last person to request had their activity level too low. The very top of the this page we are on specifically mentions the issue once again, and the thread title asks you to read the first post completely.

Serveral others in this thread have had the same thing happen, that being requesting with too low an activity level. That's why that last line of the post request form is there.

Let me explain my current set of tools available: I'm using a slightly outdated computer that still runs on XP, plus a hi-def monitor that is also plugged into my PS3 via HDMI cord.

Mattrick I would greatly appreciate that if you'd like to take on that task! I've been hoping to find my stuff on youtube or something, but nobodies posted anything as of yet. I'm stoked that you liked the level, it took a month to build and I wanted to add as much detail to bringing everything to life in the LBP world as possible. It would be cool if I could get it filmed through the site, but I haven't hit their minimum requirements, but I respect their rules and requests regarding filming. Lately alot of my free time has been spent working on my new project, another full scale movie inspired level (not Starwars related) and then I'll put some more time into these boards as well as my home boards 1up.com

Send me a message if you decide to film it for me Mattrick, it would be greatly appreciated.
