Controlinator Hero (A Guitar Hero clone)

Archive: 9 posts

Use the L1, ->, square and R1 buttons to catch notes! Choose from either easy or expert!

Technically, this is just a hub. The actual levels are found within. Stages are split up into 2 categories: main stages and bonus stages. The main stages are all rock and metal songs. The bonus stages can be anything else.

There is only 2 stages so far, a main stage and a bonus stage. I have plans for up to 10 main stages in the future. They may or may not be released simultaneously.

Although I'm currently not aware of any bugs, please point out any you find please.

+++:
- cool logo and name
- working gameplay

---:
- the way how the level starts is unprofessional i would say. don't use the pipes for this. and you need a second to see that you need jump down the plattform at the very beginning. i think you should let the player start in a well designed room go a bit to the lelft and than let a sackbot greeting them.
- everything looks like it is just a early demo to show the early stages of the gameplay development
- notes are related to the song - but don't fit to the song notes.

tipps/ideas/notes:
- you need a well designed menu system to show tutorial, to let the player chose song and settings. everythign looks a bit like lbp1 just build to run through everything because there is no other way.
- i don't think the voices fit they are not cool enogh for your kind of level
- i think this kind of level suites very well as a team work projekt.

rating:
- cool idea , but it is still a demo in my eyes.

f4f:
you don't need to do a f4f cause it was a short thing to review your level and my level i want to get feedback is a bit long. so only if you like: skunk bunny adventures - link can be found in my signature. thank you!

Yeah, the visuals are kinda thrown together for now, the plan is to worry about the system first, then the visuals.

Soon I will change the hub level so its an interactive menu, still need to learn the logic to do that though.

Thanks for the feedback, it was helpful!

Hey JBIRD777,

As I mentioned in-game, I'm looking forward to more songs!

It's good to hear that you plan on updating the visuals eventually, because the game engine is quite well put-together. I'll give it to you, though, that title screen is epic.

Gameplay-wise, once I found my groove, it was quite enjoyable. My only trouble was with not knowing when to press the buttons. At the zoom level you put the interface, my first instinct was that I was supposed to play when the notes hit the stickers in the background. I'd recommend putting the sticker instructions under the hitbox to eliminate that confusion. Even afterward, I wasn't sure whether to line the notes up with the upper or lower row of lights. The scoring seemed to be pretty strict, timing-wise, so I feel this needs to be made much clearer.

Also, I don't know if you want to mess with having music cut out when the player misses. Perhaps a global music tweaker that responds to hits and misses?

Anyhow, I had a great time and will definitely be showing this level off to friends. Thanks for a good time!

Thanks!

The button stickers are merely there just in case someone forgets which button to press where. You press the button when it reaches the upper lights. (Shaped like arrows)

I'm not sure if the global music tweaker would interfere with the syncing of the music or not, so I'll have to leave that as it is for now.

For the next few levels (9 more planned, but now I'm not sure, as this is getting very time consuming), I will construct the sequencers first, then worry on improving the visuals and logic. It may take a while.

Glad you liked it!

This level wins simply for your song choice. I mean really, you made a midi version of Dream Theater, and you did a great job with the song. Anyway, the level played quite well, reminded me a lot of Rock Band unplugged in the control scheme. There were a couple times where I'm not quite sure if the timing was spot on, but that may have been me. Either way, well done.2011-04-09 16:08:00
