About direct control seat/controllinator visibility

Archive: 5 posts

To those who were in the beta, in the very first version of the beta, we were able to make the DCS/controllinator invisible, but all while leaving the sackboy/sackbot that is using it visible. Thanks to this we were able to make the sackboy/sackbot appear in top-down view, and could do other cool useful effects, like making the sackbot appear to sit on a chair, etc..

However the problem was something like.. when a sackboy controlled a sackboy via a transmitter/reciever DCS, you would see the sackboy floating around all over the level (at least that's what happened in the top down level i tested in the beta)..
I'm not sure if this was the reason that they removed this feature, but i think that glitch dissapeared the during the same patch in wich they made DCS visibility mandatory..

It would be cool if they added a feature like this:
- There should be two visibility tweak options for DCS: The visibility of the DCS, and the visibility of the sackboy.
I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be hard at all for MM to add.

Am i the only one who thinks visible controllinators look stupid for top-down levels? You can try to cover the controllinator with a random decoration, but that looks even more stupid..
Also the "sitting-effect" was cool...

Well even on invisible controlinator sackboy animations are the same including hands up for steering, and that was probably the reason why they take that down + making sackboy invisible too gives more possibilities. Well i say it's good idea as extra tweak option, also you can always hide controlinator using some decorations ;]2011-03-10 20:23:00

I meant that sackboy is sitting on a controllinator that is a transmitter, that is far away and not visible on the screen.. he would then control a "reciever" controllinator that is on a hologram with a random sackbot in it that is just there for decoration, and doesn't control anything. So the sackbot's hands and such wouldn't move while stearing..

I just thought it wouldn't be difficult to add the extra tweak option since it would be very useful..

I couldn't agree with you more on this. I think it was 1.02 that made the change. According to eveyone else in the beta, the way I like it (that you are talking about) was the bug and the new way is correct. I'm also inclined to believe this would be an easy tweak option for them to add for us... but I'm not a programmer so I can't say with any certainty. I DO know that it would help a ton of levels out for the entire community. I had an entire Bar scene I worked on during the beta that looked amazing until the patch came along and made all the patrons invisible.

Sure the hands looked a bit weird sitting in the air, but the easy fix was to move them close enough so that their arms were resting on the table. I can think of at least 3 other examples I was using the invisible feature for that looked great until the patch.

I certainly can't think of one single negative aspect to adding this as a DCS tweak.

@Shadowriver ... unfortunately trying to hide things with the decorations is often unrealistic for some of the things we want to be able to do or show.

Yeah... I don't really like how we have to look at the controlinator...

I feel like I'm watching an old man moving across a top down level in a wheelchair, lol.
