Honey Factory Fiasco (prologue)

Archive: 11 posts

Finally finished my first LBP2 level and glad to say it is now published and ready to bee played.

This is a prologue in which you are merely making your way to the honey factory where production has halted and drone bees are acting a bit hostile and might bee up to no good. You will only reach the entrance to the factory at the end of the level, which means the next installment will bee in the factory.

I had a lot of folks who play tested this as it was being made and several folks who even offered some early/pre-publish feedback, and a few folks who even helped with a few things in the level. Honestly a lot of people to thank and I'm afraid to try and list them all because I might leave some names off by mistake. You know who you are and here is a big thanks from me! Very much appreciated.

Please feel free to leave feedback and I am very open to any constructive criticisms and will gladly do what I can to make this level the best it can be.

Disclaimer: No bees were harmed in the making of this level.

Well I made a few changes to the level last night, but mostly updated the visuals a little bit. There seems to be a way to do the X2 area if you are alone so I know that I need to fix that.

Wow, thanks everyone for all the great feedback so far...seriously?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Very frustrating to not get any feedback at all here. I gladly take constructive criticism and want to make this level the best it can be.

Not any feedback to be found here brother. Your level is amazing, but the "Level Showcase" here is pretty bleak. I think I've gotten maybe 6 plays off of my highest viewed level submission. I think you already read my review, but in case you didn't you can find it here (http://www.littlebignetwork.com/showthread.php/9883-Pickle-of-Fire-s-Zesty-Review-Corner).2011-03-12 03:03:00

Level threads that are not marked as F4F tend to fall off of the level list pretty quickly over here unfortunately. There's just too many level threads being created all the time since LBP2 released.

I had this level queued the moment I saw it published, and I just now got a chance to play it (and also dust off my old bee costume)!

I love the new visual style you've used in this level, it definitely feels even more vibrant and alive than your previous Honey Hive levels! The effects also complement the new style very well.

You've kept the platforming varied and interesting, making good use of the new tools and camera angles. It was even decently challenging towards the end. There's also more than a few alcoves to hunt for hidden prize bubbles.

The only thing that struck me was a section where we are hanging off of some slow-moving platforms (with honeycombs underneath) with the grappling hook. For the first part of this section, all we do is hang lazily from the platforms without actually doing anything (since there are no real hazards to avoid or point bubbles to collect). The pacing here seemed off compared to the rest of the level, and I think having some string of bubbles (that you need to move around to collect) or some hazards to avoid could definitely improve this part.

Great to play a new entry in the Honey Hive series, Yay'd and Heart'd.

I stumbled across this somewhere and I'm glad to see it's up here. It feels great and plays like an MM level (though the characters aren't quite in line with theirs, which is merely an observation and not a complaint!).

I didn't have any issues. I did, however, love the Honeycombinator or whatever it's called, especially its interaction with the Hook. That looks like it could be really fun. I liked the honeycomb bubble formations everywhere too; felt like a very appropriate amount of points to search for.

Yay'd, but I forget if I hearted it. I'll have to go fix that if I haven't.

I thought it was simply fantastic. Everything about it felt right. The gameplay was straight forward but it felt really polished. Thumbs up, heart and all that.2011-03-12 11:03:00

Another impressive level, Shookie!

VISUALS:
The level looks a lot more polished with material choices and corner edit, and the bee sackbots, which each of them are different, looked amazing too.

SOUND:
The "Tea by the Sea" interactive music and "A Fifth of Beethoven" are good music choices in this level.

GAMEPLAY:
With amazing Lockstitch and Jackofcourse inspired obstacles and brilliant use of grappling hook and Creatinator, this level's gameplay is a blast. My favorite part of the level is the creatinator and grabbling hook combo near the end of the level.

OVERALL:
This one is not to BEE missed. A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review.

Wow, thanks everyone for all the feedback.
@gilgamesh, I took your advice and added some bubbles in the area you mentioned, and the player has to raise and lower themselves to collect them on the first section of the ride.
I fixed the X2 area, a few people had left comments that they were able to do it alone, so I think i fixed it.

Anyone else that would like to offer some feedback, that would be great. And if you have not checked it out, you should give it a go. Currently my most played level ever.

A pass mark from me.
The most annoying thing about this level (imo!), is the constant switching between layers at certain points. Especially at the x2 powerup bit at the end.
I would also have that creatinator at the end have a 3 comb limit, instead of a limited lifetime.
Didn't have many other problems (well, maybe the camera was a bit too zoomed out at times).
I feel this level has the best visual style of your honey hive levels.

Got a chance to play this level a while back. Here is my take on it:

I enjoyed it very much. Visuals fit the theme of the level well.
Gameplay was fun although a bit challenging (especially where the upside down camera was).
I did not find any issues or bugs with this level.
I believe I have played most, if not all, of your Honey Hive levels and this one did not disappoint.
Looking forward to playing the next level(s) in this series.

A and a <3 and I also left a review.

Thanks midnight and garak for the feedback. The layer switching with the two power ups was mainly so that the player did not pass in front of the other power up and pick it up, just made it easier to navigate that section. Sometimes I zoomed the camera out only so the player could actually see the whole area and where they needed to advance to next. I have added in some extra bubbles in the area that gilgamesh suggested and also found some other stickers I had previously overlooked and placed them in for some aesthetic changes. Still have the high score if anyone wants to try and take the top spot.

Basketsnake, I meant to tell you a long time ago that I enjoyed your level called Honeyland, and honestly when I made the very first honey hive I had not heard of your level at all. Hopefully you never got the impression that I had tried to emulate your work, it was merely coincidence. Great work btw.
