barely any artistic levels?

Archive: 12 posts

I dont know but I dont see much art levels on lbp2, all just platforming and mini games, there all good to, but im not seeing any art related stuff anymore. which is kinda sad.

Whats up?

Why no more artistic stuff? could be anything like grafifti or silhouttes, like nightmare before christmas maybe.
Why is the community divided by this?

Its either platformer creator, music creator or mini game creator, but im not seeing any more art, even jump botton making platformer now.

uMM 1 sadly most people have not even been making platformers anymore.
mostly minigames and some other stuff.
2 the game not really been out to long, so there's a lot of people who have yet to upload their new levels.
and 3 i think your just not looking around enough. it's hard to find what you want on LBP, it's a lot of luck. *mew

Hmmm.... I'm not exactly sure what you mean by artistic? I'm interested to know though, because clearly I must have missed these types of levels in the past. Do you have any examples of good artistic levels I could go check out to understand what you mean? I'd love to play them. I can only really think of one level that might fit your idea right now... but the creator's name escapes me for some reason. It was a wonderfull Halloween level made in the beta, and I thought I saw it recently as the creator might have re-made it. I think it might have been Ladylyn1, IceMaiden, or someone like that who made it. It really was wonderfull and very artistic.

I'm not sure the community is exactly divided by this, but with all the new potential we now have I think creators are spending time working on projects they always wanted to do but couldn't until now.

Yeah, that's my bet.
Once we have built a few levels, more artistic stuff will start to emerge.
Shadowriver is also right, as those kinds of levels don't usually reach a high volume of plays.
I enjoyed this one:

You forgot about the movie making genre. Seems like everyone is making short films in LBP 2. I imagine that has sparked the imaginations of the more artistic types.

I also suspect the really detailed art levels take a long time to make. You can't just slap together one of those like you can a platformer or a mini-game. Personally I have seen levels whose art I really liked.

If artistic platforming then also BobTox Maybe his art is not so colourful but his detailed as hell, his Skunk Soda Level is half way done. Luos is also mostly artistic creator (all logic in his levels is mostly done by Clay), in fact he have experience in game industry on that topic ;]2011-03-10 20:18:00

It is far too vast to make a list. You just wouldnt be able to narrow it down. Maybe if you got really specific...2011-03-11 02:35:00

Filter to artistic tags in the cool levels page by pressing triangle, then selecting only one (or maybe a few others) tag for artistic or whatnot
Lucky dip pulls up some of the lesser popular levels, too. Had a real neat one with banksy art, try it.

Thanks for the mentions Shadow and bloo_boy

Art in LBP has always been a niche. Mostly because people don't play to look at art, they play to...play.
Music levels caught on because people got dragged along the level and usually got some good visuals along the way but it was still slightly interactive. (Not to mention they usually hand out the music at the end)
But to just pop in and look at a peice of art? Not popular.
I've followed the lbp art scene since 2008, only a few people have a fan base because of there art, almost every person that ever made art in lbp went by unnoticed.
Believe me, there were some pretty **** amazing peices of work that are locked, deleted, or just unplayed because its not interactive.
Me getting MM picked was most likely pure chance.

Did you know someone made a Marilyn Monroe portrait out of tiny blocks? I think his count was 1200 blocks or so. (This was over a year ago so i cant remember the number)
Squirlin was making potraits out of stickers before custom stickers became widely used.
Ladylyn recreated those Banksy peices.

The LBP art community is still out there, most of them turned to making levels and films in LBP2 though.

LBP Art fact: One of the first lbp artists that became known in the community, was discovered because they had added a second layer to a cutout of a PSeye pic and accidently made one of the first statues ever in LBP.
Which is funny today but 2 years ago it was amazing.

Oh, I went into another art rant. lol. Sorry~
