MM Pick? MM Trick it seems...!

Archive: 19 posts

We all know that the levels on the MM Picks are great and well deserved such as LBP Pacman and Mini Golf. You would expect these to be great levels... Well that's what the whole concept is about anyway. Have you ever seen the amount of rubbish at the bottom of the list? All the effortless failed LBP1 levels. For example, there is a level called the Human Body. FAIL it was terrible. What were you thinking MM giving this level and all the other failed ones an MM Pick?! Also I've noticed that many of the creators that were at the 24hour LBP2 test have many average levels in the MM Picks. Unfair and it shows their levels were picked mostly on the fact that they tested LBP2! All I'm saying is that these terrible levels from LBP1 shouldn't be given MM PICKS! I think it is some trick and a computer randomly picks levels from all over and occasionally choose ones like Pacman etc which are good levels!

Comment your ideas on the MM PICKS being full of FAILED level attempts from LBP.

I think those are previously picked levels back when Mm picks was a dinky little blog and not an online category that has been blown out of proportion. They were probably good levels back when they were picked though. I don't see why conspiracies need to be made about such a simple system, if they like it, they pick it.2011-03-09 23:28:00

your topic seems trollish, MM are people too, they like what they like,
plus old levels from years ago don't really count IMO.
also post here as there is already a topic about this kind o stuff.

Believe it or not, Mm Picks existed before LBP2. Those MM Picks from LBP1 were chosen ages ago. Old news, etc.2011-03-09 23:29:00

Such levels were actually really good at the time, level creation has evolved so much and creators have gotten much better, so in comparison they seem like they may be awful, but really, they are still quite good.2011-03-09 23:31:00

That Human Body was awful trust me. Every review was negative. It was rated like 771 down to 220 up. It looked like a H4Her did it in 10mins...2011-03-09 23:35:00

I haven't played the level, but Mm may have still liked it, or the creator published over the old level with a new one that they wanted people to play or something.

Look down near the bottom of the MM pick list and play it. You will understand then. It's honestly so hard to get plays in LBP2! Even this site barely helps. I never get feedback on my level posts and no one checks LBP.ME. Seeing a fail of a level with an MM pick is annoying especially when your levels are better.2011-03-09 23:55:00

1. Up and down ratings are only for people who have played it in LBP2. It probably looks a lot worse in the new engine (as a lot of old levels do).
2. Ever heard of an opinion? Maybe you think it's "awful", but it's an Mm pick, not an Apollo_xD pick.

Play the level and if you think of it is worthy of an MM Pick then go ahead. People work hard to try get their levels to be MM Picked but when someone gets a level that is just terrible in the MM Picks it is frustrating. Although for creators such as you who got to meet MM then it is hard to see my viewpoint though as you can easily get plays. Though MM are bound to get bored of searching levels after a while and this MM pick list will not be updated as much. I'm sure they are too busy working and will be concentrating on future projects rather than LBP2 picklist.2011-03-10 00:04:00

How many people need to tell you? That level was picked at the beginning of LBP1's life cycle when the standard for levels were extremely low.

To me it seems you're not even reading these posts. And if you tell me to go play it... :kz:

The level was Mm picked at the very start of LBP, and level creation has changed completely since then. The first computers were considered extraordinary in their time, but since computers have changed, we look upon those computers now as relics, and marvel at how we even got on back then.2011-03-10 00:19:00

I'm not saying I think it's worthy. I'm saying it's up to Mm if they think it's worthy, and clearly they did a long time ago. I doubt they'd pick most old levels these days, but they didn't - and shouldn't, in my opinion - go back and revise decisions they made 2 years ago. Mm picks are an ongoing list of highlights throughout the life of LBP, not a current up-to-date list of all the best levels right now.

Although for creators such as you who got to meet MM then it is hard to see my viewpoint hotmail as you can easily get plays.

Just because my levels may get a lot of plays now doesn't mean I can't see things from a different viewpoint. We've all been there, we all started out unknown. Making threads that basically say "this level isn't as good as mine so it shouldn't deserve an Mm pick" probably isn't the right way to go about getting an Mm pick.

So... in order for people to get more plays in LBP2, Mm needs to travel back in time and tell themselves not to pick LBP1 levels that are not as good as future LBP2 levels? Is that it?

Wouldn't it be simpler to not break the laws of quantum dynamics and just ask for Mm to pick more LBP2 levels in the present? I may be a little presumptuous, but I don't think time travel is within Mm's field of specialty.

And anyway, discussion of Mm Picks would be better left in the topic fumetsusozo linked to, while discussion of Mm building a time travel device could have its own thread in the General Chat or something.

I think I've read about discussions on this before maybe even on here or another forum I use, some people were saying a level that was MM picked in LBP2 was really bad but the main level they complained about I actually liked but I see a lot of levels on the MM pick that aren't really that brilliant but it's just a matter of who likes what really. MM must like those levels to pick them.2011-03-10 00:33:00

Ummmm......I disagree.

I think we are calling old LBP levels rubbish somtimes. Because frankly, with all the new things we can do. We think of them as obsolete. This is wrong however.

My asteroid pinball level got a huge slew of bad ratings in LBP2, even though it was a highly rated LBP1 level amassing nearly 30k plays.

Why? Because under LBP2, the level does not work, and it took me two weeks to realize that I was accumulating negative feedback on my completely broken level. I'd advise against judging LBP1 levels based on their LBP2 ratings. There are lots of reasons why this might be!

The only reason why I think the Mm picks list is unfair is that because I haven't seen a Morgana25 level there yet...come on Mm it's Morgana25!

side note* don't you think Mm spends most of their time trying to make LBP2 better instead of playing it? b/c if they spent more time playing it then nothing would be done, Zombots would take over LittleBigPlanet and the world will implode! or something like that. But yeah, maybe you (and I as well) have very high expectations sometimes too, especially for levels that the Game Developers picked. If they played more LBP then maybe they'd have higher expectations too.

and that would mean that my levels would never ever get picked! D:
