Sorry, this happened to me too. The Blue-Ray player has been burned out, and no longer works. You have to get a new PS3.2011-03-09 23:30:00

Yeah, was going to say the same thing, if your warranty is up, then it's probably cheaper to get a new one instead of trying to get it fixed, because they'll fix it and it'll work for like a month then stop working again, trust me, I had to get mine fixed 4 times, luckily I had the extended warranty, but ended up getting a new one anyways. (Hopefully the 320g slim won't have the same problems.)

Mine stopped reading disks over a year ago. Sent it in for repairs and it still works (although as of late there has been some very subtle lines that scroll down the screen every now and then...)2011-03-10 03:17:00

hang on,did it just suddenly stop reading? has it been dropped or banged about any? afew months ago my ps3 stopped reading discs,one night i was so fed up i decided to take it apart very carfully till i got to the mechanism that ejects the discs,turns out it was jammed. i worked it back and forth afew times and its been fine ever since!

since its past its warranty maybe open it up and see if anything is out of place? or go over it very carefully with a low power vaccuum,just a suggestion it might be somthing that needs to be replaced too

Things looking up as i am currently formatting my external hard-drive to fat32 window which is the only format that works with ps3. Hope this works.2011-03-10 18:09:00

Same happened to one of mine, also out of warranty.
One call to Sony - a one off charge of ?115 (if I remember correctly) - and they collected the old one and sent me an "as-new" refurb PS3;
Cheaper than buying a new one, but just as good
