LBP2 (EU) Disc not wanting to boot

Archive: 5 posts

After thorrough testing and problem solving I want to discuss the following.

- First generation ps3 (20 GB drive) (European acc. set to english (Dutch sucks)
- Undamaged LBP2 (EU) Disc.

My LBP2 (EU) disc does not want to boot up on various occasions.
here is a sum of problems with the disc not booting.

- Playing another game, quiting the game > insert lbp2 disc > PS3 makes the "the disc is loading" sound, and the blue light/drive light all show, but ps3 does not show the "Play LBP2 icon under the games section on xmb.

- LBP2 does not want to load under any circumstances, reseting ps3/hard resetting ps3/ Re-inserting lbp2 disc does not help.

- On rare occasions I do get the "Play lbp2" icon, but i get an 800x msg.
(Checked the msg on the interwebs, and it states my laser might bedirty, but why do all my other games work perfectly?
(Newly bought deadspace 2, MGS4, GT5 etc all work fine)

- Playing a 1080p game (Gran turismo 5) will crash lbp2/PS3 when booting it.

- If no disc was in ps3 it does not want to boot up lbp2 untill I put in another game and wait for the game's icon to show up.

Ways to get my lbp2 to boot:

- Put in another game disc i.e. DeadSpace 2, wait untill the "Play deadspace" icon shows up, then swap the disc with my LBP2 disc.
Always works.

- What did I do to make sure its the lbp2 disc and not my ps3.

- Cleaning disc to clean the PS3 discdrive.

- Checked the lbp2 disc many many times to see if it has damage/scratches. (None so far)
(I borrowed a hightly damaged fallout 3 disc from a friend, and it boots just fine, I do notice some frame-rate stutter in wide open area's but thats to be expected in fallout/damaged disc of fallout.. but never crashes)

- Vacuumcleaning every crook and cranny of my ps3 to make sure none of my cats secretly houses its fur in my ps3.

- All other games and movies (DVD & HD) I own all work perfectly.

- If LBP2 does boot, I have no problems with loading/crashes/stuff not playing (Same goes with all other games, no crashes occur while if it was a faulty laser I should detect random crashes in all games)

- My friend took his LBP2 disc with her, and it shows the same problem on my ps3,
while on her newer 60GB ps3 both my and her disc work just fine.

Now I want to know if any other dutch/european LBP2 players have these problems,
because it frustrates me to hell that my disc does not want to load fine.
I allready called the store where I bought the lbp2 disc, but the man goes "Sorry but you allready own LBP2 for a few months so I am not giving you a new one"

so.. is there a chance that lbp2 just has failure when trying to boot on an older ps3?

Help/advice pl0x?

(and dont go, buy a new ps3, I will do that in about half a year unless this old beast crashes on me)

Yea i would say the same thing. My friend's PS3 would only read certain games, then eventually he had to mess with it to get it to read any games, next it read no games, and finally he got the YLOD. Maybe it's not that, but to be on the safe side, get all your stuff backed up.2011-03-09 17:18:00

Mine had the exact same problem, within a couple of days it got worse to the point that the PS3 could no longer read any discs, regardless of CD/DVD/BLU

Back up your data ASAP mate... I predict you'll be needing a new PS3 soon. Gutted mate I actually lost all my data when it happened to me, since I didn't know you couldn't just swap your HDD into a new PS3 without it getting formatted automatically. **** Sony.

Im doubting my ps3 is near dying, but i allways got my stuff backed up because hardware is the last thing I would trust.

Im really guessing the boot up is just epic fail for older ps3's,
and as i mentioned before, It plays everything else without any problems.
if it was my ps3, it would have problems with many more games/movies.
