hologram boost gauge

Archive: 5 posts

ok so im updating my motorstorm cars with everything i can think of to make the more like that in the actual game but im running into problems with a gauge to keep track of boost temp, ive got it rigged in increments with counters but here lies the problem it does not recede over time. the method that ive had most success with on this project is with counters: you hit the boost button once for a momentary boost with a max of about 6 shots then you blow, and this shows on the holo gauge. however this could be better me thinks, ive tried using timers for the indicators but those look cheap. and using only timers proved problematic so far.

anyways my racking my brain over it never solves much so im asking for help and some fresh ideas if anyone wants to assist. if you want more details i can show ya on create mode if you want give you a better idea what im talking about.

thanks all

Use two sets of timers for each block of holo, one that starts when you hold the button and one that starts when you release the button.

I can't visualise it exactly but it should be fairly easy to wire these timers up through a selector in such a way that the selector either moves up or down depending which timer was last filled.

Try it with 3 pieces of holo first so it doesn't get messy.

Ayneh, i tried your suggestion, it work beautifully, up until i started goofin around with the input to see if its dummy proof, it wasnt the gauge went haywire, the the timers that made it recede had to be reset with timers set a tenth of a second after they finished to make the selector work this made it the whole thing reset from the top of the gauge not from whenever

thank you for the suggestion tho

I don't know how you have things set up but if you put a count down timer from the button you're using on the controlinator to your logic it will only transmit one signal for the length of time the count down timer is set to. This means that a user can't spam a button until the count down timer resets.

I'm making a vehicle at the moment and there's delay logic for nearly everything... because you know some people are going to try things like changing gear every 0.1 seconds.

hmmm i cant use a time delay that kills what motorstorm feels like and means you cant use it how you please and spamming the button is what im counting on, its part of what makes motorstorm, motorstorm2011-03-10 18:02:00
