Fire in the Desert

Please play my level! Feedbacks are welcome too.

I will play your levels too, just post your LBP.me code in here. I will also provide feedback if you want to.

The game is about going through the desert with flaming scorpions and hot charcoal being thrown at you. You will need to have precision and patience. An easier version is also available inside the level if you can't handle my challenge.

I didn't get very far even after playing through the 'easy' version. I think some of the swings should be adjusted just a bit. It would help to have more lives before the first jump. It also needs some kind of scoring. There's not much incentive to keep playing. Going through the easy version gives you an idea of what to expect in the hard version, but when there is no reward, what's the point of continuing? You could try giving hints on how to complete a section after a certain number of deaths. Maybe if you watched some other people play your level you could see where they are having the most trouble and adjust it a bit. Just a few suggestions.2011-03-09 23:33:00

I saw that you worked on this after I played this so forgive me if this is no longer accurate. The pacing is wrong. Difficult parts need to be worked up too. They need to be earned. You started the level off with a cheep obstacle with a very small window to get correct. I second jedijeff's idea about point bubbles. Not only are they good for the player. They also give you a quick indication if players are actually finishing your level. No score and the player gave up in frustration or got bored. Lots of high scores with the same value and maybe your level is too easy.2011-03-09 23:52:00

hi i played your level
here is your feed back: ^^
i hope you understand that i want to help you develop a good level and make it even better! i don't mean it on a bad way if i sound hard. oki?

difficult version:

---:
- the difficulty: it's fine to do level difficult, but you made it impossible in my eyes - i don't even made it till the 3rd sponge after replaying it 3 times. (and i think i'm a good player if it comes to plattformer)

tipps:
- place inifinitive live checkpoints (the start checkpoint is not infinitive btw) place another later in front of the start
- try to place the spikedthingies a bit higher or the sponges a bit lower (at the beginning) ( can not say more cause i was not able to go further)
- allways play your own levels and see if "you" are able to do your own challenges.

rating:
- impossible to play

easy version:

+++:
- ok this was fun to play!!! challenging and nice jumps!

---:
- same as the difficult level - it lacks a bit on design (why are the balls bouncing? is there a reason? all seems a bit random know what i mean?
- feels 100% like a little big planet 1 level
- no points. it is fun to collect points! we want highscores and see who made it better!

tipps:
- place inifinitive live checkpoints (the start checkpoint is not infinitive btw) place another later in front of the start
- try to place the spikedthingies a bit higher or the sponges a bit lower (at the beginning)
- add chainable points
- after the ... i call them "bouncing fire balls" after them you should place a checkpoint as well... it's frustrating to get to the next challenge and need to repeat this one again.

rating:
- neutral

F4F:
- plz play the level "skunk bunny adventures" in my level signature link! thank you!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your feedback, it really helps to know what the player wants. I am going to mention some points about what I realized lately:

- A level with 0 point bubbles does make a game more dull or boring, since there is no way in making the high score work as it should be. I am going to add some point bubbles soon, some easy to find and others a little hidden.
- The first obstacle you face is one of the hardest indeed, but to be honest once you get the catch in how you need to jump at a certain time and a certain position, it is not really that hard to do. However, I do really need to put a checkpoint with more lives because the starting gate lacks of such option.
- About the comment of making the level harder as the player progress is kinda difficult to do right now since the level is basically finished, this kind of stuff must be decided during the design process and not after the implementation. I guess I will keep this in mind for my next level creation.
- About the comment that this level feels like LBP1, well you are completely correct sir, I made this level when I bought LBP1 but never dared to publish it... I just made some quick small modifications on it and publish it until LBP2.
- And finally about the comment that I need to play my own levels and finish them in order to test my challenges, well then I guess you didn't read the high score, because my name is on it . Of course I would try to finish it before publishing it, because I hate levels that are literally impossible to beat. In order to prove that it isn't impossible, I must test it myself first.

I decided to make a really hard level because I never enjoyed levels that were so easy that you could beat them in 1 run or with just a few deaths. I think this is why I stopped playing Nintendo games, because their games were made easier and easier during the last few years. Just compare Super Mario Bros with Super Mario Galaxy, or The Legend of Zelda with Twilight Princess, or Metroid with Mother M.

Anyway back to the topic, for the people who haven't played my level yet please do so! I need the 50 unique players trophy in order to have the Platinum one. I will try to make an atari-style game later, but for the meantime please play Fire in the Desert and I will play yours too!

Thanks everyone.
