The Tale Of Horsie

Archive: 3 posts

Just something I got to get off my chest. This is a true story about my favorite video game character, Horsie. The thing is, he's not a real video game character. He's one I made up!

NOTE: This contains spoilers for Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

It was a snowy day, and I was playing Assassin's Creed II. I needed to get to some city, can't remember which. Not realizing at the time there was a fast travel system, I took the nearest horse.
"Faster Horsie!" I yelled, randomly choosing a name for the horse I had stolen borrowed. Due to absolutely despising Assassin's Creed's controls, I had many fails and yelled at Horsie. Eventually, I arrived at my destination and got out of there, filled with utter rage.
From there I strangely found myself riding the white horse more commonly, until eventually I rode no other. I still wasn't that fond of him, but what the heck, he got the job done. So we went on many adventures. Eventually I got to the final mission in Rome. I was overwhelmed by guards, so I climbed a tower. When I looked down, I saw him. There on the wall, he had arrived for my aid.
Horsie.
As I jumped off the tower onto his back, I yelled:
'ONE LAST ADVENTURE HORSIE!'
I then preceded to die many times, and began swearing at the horse.

From there I named every animal or vehicle I rode in a video game Horsie. As soon as I found a white horse in a video game, I rode him. The 'one last adventure' had created an unbreakable bond between me and the white horse.
Then I got Brotherhood.
As the villa was being attacked, I rode on Horsie's back to victory. When I needed to get from Point A to Point B, Horsie valiantly rode me there. When I was chasing a man and needed extra speed, Horsie appeared out of nowhere, and together we caught him.
Skip forward to the final mission in the game. I kill the soldiers, then get hit by a cannon. When I come to, Horsie is there, waiting for an order. I jump on his back and gallop straight into the battlefield, chasing after my target, jumping and weaving over obstacles.
Then, disaster struck.
A cannon hit Horsie and me, sending me to the ground. Horsie...fell over, frozen as a stone. He had perished, expired, died. Strangely, out of all video games I have played, all books I've read, all movies I've watched, this death was the most tragic to me. Throughout the mission I killed every guard in Horsie's name, and when I threw Cesare off the wall, I said:
"Horsie has been avenged."
LONG LIVE HORSIE, AND MAY HIS ANCESTORS LIVE AS BRAVELY AS HE HAD!

I think there is some way to get a white horse in Shadow Of the Colossus, if you ever plan to buy the remake they are going to put on the shelves (if it has not already been put there)... 2011-03-10 19:47:00
