Stopping a sackbot from sliding on glass

Archive: 10 posts

I want the player (in a controllinator transmitting to a sackbot) to have the ability to stop sliding on glass with the press of a button. I thought that adjusting the friction setting on a material tweaker on either the sackbot or the glass itself would do the trick, but no setting on a material tweaker on the glass seems to stop the glass from being slippery, and the friction setting isn't available at all when the material tweaker is on a sackbot. If there was a way to glue material to a sackbot, perhaps I could add a material tweaker to it, but I know of no way to glue material to sackbots.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone got one?

And while I'm asking questions, is there any reason a sackbot controlled by a player via a controllinator can't use a grappling hook?

Have you tried the reverse yet, replacing the glass with a grippy material and using the material tweaker to make it slippery?

No idea about the grappling hook though.

Good thinking! That does it.
This leaves me with the more manageable problem of how to make non-glass material look like glass.
I also have to figure out a way to override the "override" setting on the controllinator so that the sackbot not only stops slipping but comes to a complete stop (can't be controlled while the brake button is held).

So do you want him to either come to a complete stop AND slide on one thing? Is it possible to use to material changers on opposite inputs to do this?2011-03-08 04:04:00

I'd thought just placing a material tweaker on the glass and tweaking it so it's not slippery would work.....

There is an extra setting underneath all the % options on the material tweaker if I remember correctly, try using that.

Have a play-around with all the different settings and see if it works then.

How about using a strong mover on the Sackbot?

X and (on glass) -> mover, 0 speed, 100% strength

Whenever you press X while on glass (impact sensors probably the best way to find that) the bot will stop moving.

Brilliant! That efficiently solves the whole problem right there.
All that mucking around with material tweakers was a waste of time.

Nah, I just wanted him to come to a complete stop.

As long as it's not a glass elevator.

You could use a piece of material affected by the material properties glitch, e.g. something with the properties of rubber which looks like glass.
