Mouse Trap (the board-game) - Help to shape it

Archive: 1 post

One of the all time board-game classics, Mouse Trap (for those who don't know) was a 3-dimensional game that players had to construct piece by piece as the game progressed.

It was a simple case of taking it in turns to roll the dice, and then piecing together a large mechanism at the centre of the board. If that doesn't make much sense to you, watch this quick video:

With LBP2's unlimited creation possibilities, recreating Mouse Trap is definitely possible, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to get people's input into how the game could work. It doesn't have to be an exact carbon copy of the original.

As a top-down view (similar to car racing levels), forward/backward movers could be used in order to create a moving, working mechanism. Balls dropping through holes and activating switches, for example, would be relatively easy. The actual mouse trap at the end lowering down to trap the players, again very easy.

The mechanism pieces would need to be placed, and this is where it becomes a little tricky I guess. The only method I can think of would be to emit the mechanism pieces from stationary emitters, making it so that each mechanism piece can only be placed precisely where it is supposed to be. Any ideas?

Also, I'm really not too sure how would be best to go about the actual board logic. Having 2+ players taking turns to roll the dice and then having their player pieces automatically move around the board. My knowledge of logic doesn't extend that far.

Feel free to dig in and offer up your feedback and ideas. Mouse Trap deserves to be done right.
