Tank Battle

This is a level I created because I wanted to see if I could build a decent tank simulator.

The controls are a bit fiddly at first as it is supposed to be a simulator, not an arcade style game, but it should still be fun!

You have to use BOTH sticks to move, the left stick controls the left tread, the right stick controls the right tread. For example, to move forward, push both sticks up. To turn left, push the right stick up. To turn right, push the left stick up. To rotate, push one stick up and the other stick down. L1 and R1 rotate the turret and X fires.

This is always how i've considered tanks to work (not that i've driven one mind you) and it does take a bit of getting used to

Anyway, this is a multiplayer versus level, if you play it on your own then you'll just win when you enter the arena. I've never properly tried it out with multiple people, however it supports up to 4.

I've just noticed from the last screenie that you can see the floor! >.< That's first on the fix list!

Vogan i've queued your one up, but could you expand a bit on your comments about mine? You say the controls dont work at all, do you just mean you didn't understand how they work or the tanks didnt move?2011-03-09 11:03:00

Oh, yeah - I playeed this a few days ago and clean forgot about the thread.
I did play alone, but I'll try and give it another go next time I'm with friends.

The controls were pretty fiddly at first, as you said, but I picked it up eventually and managed to navigate the little course, up to what I think is supposed to be the arena. I won't say too much about that until later, mind.
I wouldn't alter the controls - they work just fine.

Appearance-wise, though, I reckon you need some work. It didn't look too attractive how the side-scrolling level seemed to just merge with the top-down level. I would've made a side-on tank, have players get in that, then use invisible hologram to move them to the top-down tanks in the dark, so it all looks pretty seamless. But that's just me.

Hmm, I'm trying to think how I could get your suggestion to work with 4 people in 4 different tanks. To be honest the whole entry area is cosmetic and could probably be removed anyway. I could probably set up 4 side-on tanks as you suggest and then blackout + move the players into the top down tanks once everyone is in a side-on tank.

Failing that, I may just separate the side-on and top-down areas, blackout when everyone leaves the side on area and throw them into small top down movers to navigate to the tanks.
