Vanishing walls glitch. :(

Walls (thin layers) in back layer vanish on my level during certain conditions. After hours of trying many many many fixes I found the issue may be cause by setting off too many material destroyers at once, while teleporting across the level. I placed a timer and several other switches to reduce how many even occured at once and it seems to have fixed it...but I have not checked all over because the glitched moved around the spawn in point with each fix. http://i52.tinypic.com/20axvdw.jpg The wall vanishes, you can not place stickers on it, but all switches, cameras, and items glued to it act as if it still exists. It just doesn't. Edit: Altered one switch in level and it caused issue to reappear, fixed it and found door on far side of area was now missing. Seeing as nothing I did fixed the glitch, and I may want to try and touch up the level more some time without out spending hours switching between play mode and create (glitch only occurs in play)...does anyone know how to fix it? | 2011-03-08 16:07:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
I've seen this before too. I was messing around with a race level and I'd have entire sections "disappear" when in play mode - sometimes even in create mode. I chalked it up to having too much complexity on screen (verticies, lights, moving material animations) but I never was able to definitively say what caused it. I tried taking some of the more complex shapes of material and breaking them up into a few pieces and it did seem to happen less but I never did stop it completely. Doh! When I thought I fixed it I rejoined a complex wall to save on the number of items. I will try and go back and take them a part and see if it is more stable. The funny thing is the last time it occured was almost half way across the level. Also as long at the player does not use the teleporter then the glitch neveer occurs...so I wonder if your glitch occured with a controllinator set to auto board right after emitting with 4000 range, auto eject, and several destroyers activated (but they are not all at the same time). | 2011-03-09 02:20:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Great, I edited on area and the glitch returned. I think it occured because of adding a little bit to a thin layer. I went back and spent hours deleting and moving items. As of this moment a fan blade vanishes at the point below the teleporter, so the player may not even notice, but it is driving me crazy. I have the level very tuned so I can't really remove more corners than I have, and I had tried both breaking up complex shapes and reducing the number of parts. Nothing seems to work. I have made even mopre items destroyed before the person teleports to make the level less complex. Ok I fixed it again, and it seems to be holding for now. Not sure what did it, but broke up many larger complex shapes and also combined a few simple ones. No attempts at timing for destroyers or removing items free falling did any good. I did find one peice that I split in two and the second part had those fake interior angles that makes most of the item invisible. Fixing that may have helped. It had three squares cut into it for doors and signs, so that could have something to do with it. Ok, yet another update, then glitch definately seems to occur when when any of the furthest back thin layer (sorry forgot the term for theck and such layers)...well when that layer is tweaked at all it causes the other thin layers to become a target for this glitch. It may have to do with the glitch where you get those invisible parts of a layer live some one took the corner editor and then dragged it across the layer...but the layer still has the outline of what it was when you place the cursor over it. Well I touched up one little corner in one side of the level and once again it occured...http://ib.lbp.me/img/fl/a5b22799c8cf7a7bb43dc92a22a9306dd4c923ff.jpg I recreated it in the create mode and it appeared for me to see, the pic is a bit too dark, but basically those emitters are floating in air in unpaused mode. Everything seems to be attached to something but there is nothing there. I hit rewind and it reappeared, I found messing around with rewind and un pause I got the glitch to first move around the area and then to vanish completely, but then on a few plays later it reappeared. I added several more smaller parts to teh larger thin layers which hurt the thermo, caused teh sticker glitch to go into full swing..so then I had to fix that too...but the wall is once more visible. | 2011-03-20 18:37:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
