Star TraCer 2: Space Voyage

Archive: 33 posts

Star TraCer 2 is a free roaming, space exploration and story based level. You are able to travel to any planet in our Solar System. You're the captain of a space human-survivalist military group called the ASI command. ASI was an organization part of the Navy before going rogue. As you travel to different planets in our Solar System, you learn and find interesting minerals, life forms and abandoned spaceships.

Star Tracer 1 on LBP was one of my first levels created, and I'm still new to this. Star Tracer 2 will consist of 17 levels put together which took me months to create lol.

Can you guys tell me what you think of this idea. I know it needs improvement.

This is what I have so far:

WOW! I just played your level. lol this is like the biggest level I have ever played on LBP2. It must of taken you ages to create this. Why does this level have so little plays?! is this a RPG level?

Edit: planet earth made me cry . sad story

Thanks for playing. I put months of work into this level. I will continue adding to this level creating DLC missions like an actual game. Star Tracer will be one of those levels that never ends lol..

It reminds me of a free roam Star Trek type of level. I cant wait for dlc. i never seen anyone make a level in this concept. This is a great level to learn about our solar system since u placed facts & info on each planet.

I played this level, and you've done an amazing job with it. It's gonna kill me in creator of the month, I can just imagine the circutry it took to construct this lol.

I'd recommend fixing the glitches, and perhapes creating a special account in order to expand this. Also, I'd like to add you, if you're up for it.

Thank you for the feedback. I think I fixed most glitches people had problems with. Have you found more logic faults or glitches? Just let me know where, thanks.

It's strange that a level as long, deep, and detailed as this can be summed up in one word, let alone three letters, but this one can, and here they are: WOW.

Seriously, how long have you had this game? Last I checked, it's only been out 2 months! This must've taken a ton of time to create. I didn't even have time to play it all in one sitting. I finished the main quest as far as you have it (I think) and hope to head back for some of the side missions. But ****, you outdid yourself here. Actually, you outdid the actual game's story mode here. This is impressive.

I know 100% glowing feedback doesn't help fix anything that's potentially wrong, but nothing really stood out to me as a problem. I did hit a glitch where my email messages didn't work, or I only got one where there was supposed to be 3. But that sentence alone speaks volumes because the only problems I encountered were on things that are just so deep in scope that it's completely forgivable.

My only complaint in the way of gameplay decisions is the trek from the ship to the planet-select and back. I think you should've added the the teleport thing a little sooner. Other than that, I humbly bow before this future MM pick.

Wow, this is by far the best feedback I've gotten for the level. lol Thanks a lot and I'm glad you've enjoyed it! I started working on this level November 2010 on LBP 1.

Thank you for pointing out the things I need to fix. I agree with those issues

Currently playing now...

+ All very pretty.
- Followed instructions for planet select (chose Mars), alarms were working, but got an error when flying in the ship.
- Couldn't replay level select instructions to see if I had done something wrong.
- Replayed level and did the same thing. This time it worked. I walked through mars, got to the ship on the other side, it flew away, the global lighting went down, the camera rumbling, but nothing happened after that.
Went to mercury, had no problems, got messages etc.
- Went to Earth, but was simply linked back to the hub ship. It then replayed the messages, etc.
- Ship activations sounds play if you jump and do not enter the ship.
Second time trying for Earth worked.
Now underground Earth.
- You get squished by simply walking right.
Enemy ship.
- Cannot see the layers properly and causes a little frustration when trying to kill the bad guys.
Boss.
- I try jumping over the rubble, but it simply results in deaths + spawn deaths.
It's not clear enough you need to layer switch down here (imo).
There is foreground rubble obscuring the layers which doesn't help. The camera is fixed, so the player cant zoom in to look.
Not sure why the creatinator thick projectiles get destroyed when they come in contact with a thin layer (ex: the bridge).
Doesn't make much sense visually imo.
- Walking back and forth to the different rooms gets a little repetitive.
On my way to Mars now.
- Doesn't activate the level link I guess. Same problem as before (lighting down but not going anywhere).
I replay and "load".
I try Mars to continue the story, but it doesn't pick up where I left off (after earth like the load screen says), and just replays what I had done previously. The ship at the end "stalls" again.

The story is interesting enough to play through for, it's just that the non-activating planets and backtracking really puts a dampener on the experience. Teleporting system really needs to be there from the start.
Plus no changes in gravity on different planets?
I also didn't like the 3 layer elevators and the elevator doors don't look centred, could do with some platforming, but that's nitpicking.
It would be a great level if the travel between planets work 100% of the time.

Have to agree with midnight on the elevators and the planet select...also really want to have option to crash pod into gas planet...then again on DLC you could always make them flying levels, so disregaurd that. Just posting here because I found your link on LBPC. I will leave you some good feedback on this weekend...oh but I may have skipped about the sliding door opening design...the lower half by the bedroom goes down a bit below the floor level so your sackboy can hang there every now and then.2011-03-18 06:20:00

I haven't experienced most of those issues on my level, but thanks for the feedback. Maybe the level link issue is a LBP 2 bug, I just did 2 straight playthroughs without any problems.2011-03-18 06:26:00

Gas planets do not have a surface to crash on. So it wouldn't make sense. LOL

Well, I was impressed. You got a good thing going here. In your level comments, I said the same thing as Midnight: The earth mission just seems too cluttered. Identifying layers and navigating them was unnecessarily difficult, and it was tricky to avoid enemy fire. It also caused a huge drop in frame-rate as the level tried to load all that stuff in such a small area. I'd de-clutter that a little, or spread it out some. I think that'll solve a lot of your problems in that area.

As far as the level link problems, I tried for Pluto, had the alarm, did everything right, went to ship, and after it launched, nothing happened. A short while later, a speech bubble popped up and said, "Either you didn't pick the planet right, or this is a level link error". After that, I was back at the mother ship. I did the same thing as before, this time going to Mars. It worked fine, and worked fine every time after that. Not sure if it's really a problem with the level or not.

I think there is a serious issue with the game. I don't think the level link issue is my level. I checked my logic switches and replayed it a couple of times and it worked fine. I'm pretty sure its a bug. If more people have a issue with the linking, I may have to lock my level until the bug is fixed.

I don't want it to effect everyone's experience. A lot of these issues are not fixable. Some issues people ask me to fix would cause me to entirely rebuild and take apart too much. I will have to make these changes for Star TraCer 3. I used 18 LBP 2 levels to build Star TraCer 2. I will have to wait for LBP 3

About the gas planets not having surfaces to crash on...they are much more fun that that, while most of them have small cores tha contain heavey elements, most have liquid and thikcer cores from the sheer size. The radiatio, heat, gravity and sheer wind forces make for really cool ships explosion options. Like a ship being pulled apart or crushing due tot eh gravity in the planet. Jupiter would be the most fun for that, while the smaller of the gas giants could allow the player to be crushined int eh luquid gas cores of the planets. Again, not saying you need to...just explaining why I like the idea. A pulsar would be neat because of the whole being flattened to a thin atom thick layer...while a blackhole could allow for time to slow and the ship to be torn to atom sized parts as it entered the event horizon. Space gotta love it...just don't ever trust it.2011-03-18 09:03:00

Most of this is just nitpicking. the level was great but i think ur just finding ways to downplay the entire level. most of ur issues is level linking issues which worked fine for me. didnt experience none of those problems.
I attempted the level three times and the errors occurred on each play through.
nextlevel88 also stated he got the same errors, so it's not just me.

from your post i basically got "this level sucks because its not perfect"

It may sound like that, but I am just trying to help the level reach it's full potential.
Levels/creators do not attempt to make their levels better if they are only given praise.
Don't get me wrong, this is a above average level, I don't bother posting much positive notes, as the majority of other reviews do that for me.
Constructive criticism simply highlights the faults which, if fixed, can elevate a good level to a great level.

"doesnt make much sense visually imo" is by far the dumbest feedback I've seen for this level.
I see that you misquoted me a bit there.
Perhaps I should have written "imho" instead.
imho, a predominately thick layer projectile that collides with a thin layer obstacle doesn't make much sense.

You are on the absolute nitpicking rampage

"you get squashed by walking right" is complete bull...
It is 100% accurate actually.
Go to that checkpoint, push right on the analog stick and see what happens.

Nice job making most of these "negatives" up. I can't really take your feedback that serious..lol
I'm not sure if you mean I falsified some facts, or that you simply don't agree that the issues I saw are worth looking into.
I took time out to play this level and type out some (imho) helpful feedback, you are entitled to your own opinion.
You may not agree, but I feel those issues/annoyances are worth mentioning, even if they are minor.
It's the little things that make a great level.

@MarcusBishop (actual author of this level, as is my understanding)
I have seen various problems throughout LBP2 concerning level links.
They do not activate 100% of the time correctly, and even some have been locked until I replay the level (in other levels, not this one fyi).
One way to solve this is to have the option of playing each level via the your planet/globe.
What did you think of my feedback? (excluding level link issues)

Perhaps I should add a disclaimer on the bottom of my posts..?

I really appreciate you going out of your way to give me a detailed overview of the issues in my level. Most of them I agree on while others seem to be a LBP 2 bug (level link issues & projectile that collides with a thin layer obstacle)

As we speak I am working on fixing some of the issues you mentioned. Some issues can't be fixed due to me having to take too much apart lol. (Deleting 3d objects & ect)

If the level link error continuously keeps screwing up, I may have to lock the level and find other options. The level linking occasionally stops working for some apparent reason, and I hope MM can fix this. I put so much work into the levels (Star TraCer uses 18 levels) so it would destroy my work.

@mccloud733

I appreciate you being a fan but don't take feedback so personally, it's just to help my level become better than it is. If everyone praised every level, standards would be low for the community. Sometimes criticism helps

I wasn't expecting a MM pick, I honestly don't think my level is good enough. Yes, I put tons of work into it, but the level itself just has too many issues for it to be an MM pick.
