Controlled Joy-Stick Rotation

Archive: 4 posts

For my level, I wanted my sackbot to only rotate an object within a certain degree (about 180 to the right or maybe a little less). Is there anyway I can set up the advanced/joystick rotater to just rotate within that amount of degrees?2011-03-06 20:39:00

One possible way of doing this would be to have a wobble bolt attached to a bit of holo hidden behind the object. If you want the object to be moved about attach logic to the holo as needed. Then use a tag on the DCS wired into whatever button you want to trigger the action, add a sensor onto the holo and attach it to the wobble bolt, set the wobble bolt to whatever degree you want the rotation.

Hopefully should work

if you set up two grav tweakers with 90 dampening on sequencers that are forwards-backwards and the L stick to a direction splitter, you can make an easy wobble bolt out of the joystick rotator... you just need to set up some parameters to keep them from counting up in sequence from being all the way left or all the way right instead of from being in the prone-position in the middle. A "NOT" moving the joytstick gate that resets the sequencers to prone and flicks on a gyroscope pointing it to the middle will cover that.

there's alot of ways you can accomplish this though. i'll see if I can UL a pic, that'd probably convey the ideas easier.

You can wire other signals into a joystick rotator besides a thumbstick. One thing I've done is hook a battery into the positive end of a combiner and the l/r output from a thumstick into the negative end and plug it into the top of a joystick rotator. Then I wire the same l/r output into the the l/r input on the rotator. This makes it so the rotator can only go 180 degrees from left to up to right, but not down. It also means that as soon as you let go of the stick, it goes back to pointing straight up, which was fine for what I was using it for (basically a gyroscope, but tiltable), but might not be for what you're doing.

If I wanted a joystick rotator that would stay put when I let go but only had 180 degree rotation, I would wire a 10% battery into the top (which will actually limit you to like 175 degrees or so) and run the l/r stick output through a NOT gate into a zero speed 100% strength rotator (not a joystick or advanced rotator--just a regular old rotator). That should rig it so you've got almost 180 degrees rotation but it will stay put when you let go.
