Custom tracks should be allowed in levels
Archive: 12 posts
Sure, this could be solely based on my inability to craft awesome orchestral pieces, but im sure im not the only one here that isn't very adept in music. LBP2 music sequencer is good and a welcome addition, but its confusing for people, like me who have never read music before. Listen to me MM, put in custom soundtrack options for levels please | 2011-03-06 01:46:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |
Why don't you just add a blank magic mouth in your level, and record the music with a PS Eye? Of course, this only works if you have one. | 2011-03-06 01:51:00 Author: Leafy101 Posts: 154 |
I've tried this with an headset, are you saying the PlayStation Eye is better? or maybe i need a better technique because the quality is always horrible lol. | 2011-03-06 04:41:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |
The problem with the magic mouth is that it can't have a 4 minute soundtrack with decent quality in it. Or does it? Haven't tried it yet. Could someone tell me? | 2011-03-06 10:58:00 Author: TNSv Posts: 302 |
They did this because of copyright and bandwidth issues. Music/film copyright is one of the strongest legal forces in the world, if you have music/film copyright backing you up, no other laws apply. In my country, murder is often less of a crime than breaching film/music copyright. Bandwidth is a big issue because it costs money. Now imagine if thousands of people created levels dedicated to band X and made a real crappy level, filled with music players... and then if even more played it. It'd place a huuuuuuge strain on the servers. Even sensible levels with one or two custom musics would be a problem... I'd imagine this is also why PS Eye and Headset recordings are so low quality, they're made as low quality as possible to save on bandwidth. | 2011-03-06 12:45:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Being able to record music or import music into LBP is just going to cause more problems than good really, as brought up with the copyright problems, among others, above my post. The music sequencer is about as close to custom music you'll probably ever get really. If you can't make something with it, either just use the music MM give out or maybe you could find someone who could help you out with the sequencer. | 2011-03-06 13:04:00 Author: Moonface Posts: 310 |
I agree. The music sequencer is no use to me whatsoever because I can't read music so it's still impossible for me to actually recreate an actual piece of existing music. I think Mm must have put some sort of code or filter in the magic mouths because it's impossible to record music onto them. I've tried 2 different bluetooth mic's, one of which is the official Sony one, and the Eyetoy mic, but it won't record it without it keep breaking up. You can record your own speech ok but that's all. I don't know HOW they've made it so the magic mouths won't record music properly but they obviously have. | 2011-03-06 13:29:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I'm guessing they've limited the frequency - so that only certain frequencies can be heard. Possible? I don't know - but it really isn't possible. | 2011-03-06 13:36:00 Author: standby250 Posts: 1113 |
They have may done something to the magic mouths to try and prevent music from being recorded because of breach of copyright. To be quite honest if it were possible I'd be both for and against it, for because I'd love to put my own classical music in the levels because I have lots of classical music being into classical music that is on the other hand I'd be against it because then there'd be lots of levels with modern pop music and all kinds of music that most likely I won't be able to stand lol. I think it would just be better if MM added more classical music to the music in the game, because I know a lot of classical music that would work really well in the game. | 2011-03-07 01:35:00 Author: Elsa Posts: 164 |
Yea i never thought about problems with copy writing, it seems the servers would be a mess too. I guess i never thought about it like that-- Littlebigplanet would be kind of wierd/annoying if every level started including rock and rap music lol. Thankfully i have found some good composers, but until i see some tutorials with the music sequencer, theres still really nothing I can do with it. | 2011-03-07 13:14:00 Author: Rpg Maker Posts: 877 |
If you're struggling with the music sequencer I can give you some tips like by pressing the right stick before placing a note you can change the sound or how it comes out depending on which direction you push the right stick. Try just fiddling about with some stuff that's what I did and by finding some music stuff in other levels it taught me things. Like try putting some music pieces in the same timeline of the sequencer and setting them to simple little tunes. You can create some nice repetitive music that way that can work nicely in gameplay mode. I've made some stuff, I know most about using the music sequencer but just not very good at making some good stuff with it but I can show you some stuff if you like I also have a little costume gallery level I made in LBP2, I put some music pieces at the top there that I've already used in levels so you could always collect those and take a look at them. Might help you with some ideas | 2011-03-07 22:34:00 Author: Elsa Posts: 164 |
