Your opinion on PSP hacking...
Archive: 24 posts
I would like to know your opinions on PSP hacking! Personally I love the hacks for the PSP but when I was about to order my pandora battery my little cousin updated my PSP to 6.37... so right now I am use the HBL (http://wololo.net/wagic/half-byte-loader-xmb-version/) to load all my homebrew applications... But I am annoyed that I can't use costume themes or use all homebrew on my PSP and having to use a loader to use my HB apps. Im going out to buy a battery to soft-mod into a pandora battery and I will by a memory stick to turn into one of the "Magic Memory Sticks" and then I'll finally downgrade my PSP to something like 5.00 M33. | 2011-03-05 07:35:00 Author: chinook3 Posts: 453 |
Personally, I've never been a hacker. Maybe a modder or a glitch person, but never a hacker. But, when I was doing sailing lessons one year, one of my classmates told us that their dad was using PSPs in a military project. He said that they were gonna use the PSP models to make handheld controls (w/ screens) to control Predator aircraft. I wouldn't be surprised if they were successful; the PSP's quite versatile. | 2011-03-05 07:43:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
with the RUMORED release of the psp phone( and a detesting taste for handheld games) i gotta say psp takes the cake! all the possibilities with new applications no sanctioning of the PS company, a user created website with homemade apps gives more freedom and creativity to the users! on the otherside of the coin theren was that bunch of bad apples who went out and proved why this 'hacking' of the PSP needs to stay in place, keeping the boundary stationary. calm. i dont own a PSP but i think a tracker app (for if it gets stolen) you know its location would allow alot more ppl pure and sublime handheld happiness! ...but alot more stalkers at the same time! | 2011-03-05 07:52:00 Author: XELLAmunster Posts: 89 |
with the RUMORED release of the psp phone( and a detesting taste for handheld games) i gotta say psp takes the cake! This was no longer a rumour months ago when clear pictures leaked, and about half a month before its official announcements sights like engadget had hands on previews. But here's the official announcement: http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-press-conference/#continued It comes out this month too. EDIT: I had a hacked PSP for a long long time. It was awesome, but I sold it eventually. Got a PSPGo now, official firmware. Such an amazing device hardware wise, just a shame sony handled the PSN store so poorly, pretty much a fail because of it. Bought Patapon 2 though yesterday, so addicted! | 2011-03-05 20:15:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
As long as it's used for homebrew applications and the like I'm all for it. I had one myself in fact. Before my memory stick died. However it's also used for piracy. Which is bad. | 2011-03-05 22:32:00 Author: FlameAtNight Posts: 405 |

Ahh you're not real hackers. Real hackers can do the dirty work themselves. We are not hackers actually, we are crackers. HACKER-Has permission to break system CRACKER-Same as a hacker but does not have permission from creator if the technology in being broken. We can get more complex by calling "crackers" "hackers who have black hats"... Sorry but as a cracker, I feel I should tell you script kiddies that cracker is the better term here. mods may want to tweak this post as i dont know if its unsuitable | 2011-03-06 01:48:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |
I don't think we have any problem with talking about hacking (or cracking if you will), but we have a firm anti-piracy policy on this site so as long as the discussions stay away from how or where to pirate games or other software, you should be fine. However, I would ask that you refrain from discussing apps that might incorporate the recent actions of those hackers who are involved in the current litigations with Sony: this is a Mm and Sony friendly site. | 2011-03-06 08:16:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
About the psp phone... They are releasing a product called NGP (next generation portable) which has many new features such as dual analog and an optional 3G service with a monthly fee and if they have a skype like in some psps it is possible to use as a phone. It is I guess considered a smart phone, but in my eyes its a phone/mp3 for gamers. | 2011-03-08 20:12:00 Author: Bbody Posts: 43 |

You may be able to do skype on the NGP, but it won't have phone features such as calls and texts, despite having 3G (that's to be connected online at all times. Sort of the same reason ipad has 3G). | 2011-03-08 20:31:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Ok now back onto homebrew and what you call "hacking". We don't want to go off topic do we? | 2011-03-08 20:37:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |
This is true. I just found out I could hack my PSPGo if I wanted, thought I had firmware too far ahead. Probably won't tbh, I've had my hacked PSP, and there's enough games on my account to not bother. | 2011-03-08 23:24:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Right now my PSP-2000 is still at OFW 6.37 and I was wondering if any of you can find a CFW for it without Pandora battery, because I can't for the life of me! | 2011-12-18 19:48:00 Author: chinook3 Posts: 453 |

I have cfw on mine. I have an n64. i have homebrew games and apps. And it's all legal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! Because it's not really a jailbreak. You can just get apps that aren't sold anywhere that are made just for psp's with cfw. I don't illegally download games though. So don't arrest me. CFW is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | 2011-12-20 01:38:00 Author: unc92sax Posts: 928 |

It is only illegal if your playing games on an emulator (Example: N64) but don't actually own that game in hardware form | 2011-12-21 21:56:00 Author: chinook3 Posts: 453 |
Actually, just modding the PSP's drivers or downgrading it is illegal. It says so when you download an update. But I guess mods wont cry as long as we're not saying yes out loud to gamesharing and giving away methods to do so. I am against gamesharing, so even if my friends want to give me minecraft I said no, I'll pay for it. I don't like having illegal stuff - then you're scared of updating. I'm against gamesharing because the creators of those games worked hard. Then I hear my friends : Sony's rich, it wont kill them if I decide not to pay for one or two games. Then I reply : duh, that game is on PSP but it wasn't made by Sony. I admit that the PSP is way more powerful with a hack though, allowing emulation and stuff. I've used emulators on the PC, but only to play nintendo games cause I don't want to buy a gameboy just to play one or two games (kingdom hearts for example). But plain and simple hacking of games, nope. | 2011-12-29 23:46:00 Author: Unknown User |

Anyways, missed the thread the first time, but I have used some software to unlock my PSP... which is what you all have done, you aren't cracking the system unless you are personally using the exploits to design code, that would let the system do things it wasn't originally designed for. But, I heartily support the PSP homebrew scene. It has been a great community throughout the whole life-span of the console, even if a lot of the original crackers were driven away due to idiots demanding piracy... I really can't wait to see what the PSVita is capable of with exploits, there has already been some good news (and bad)... but I don't think it is a good idea to link, if only because I want it to stay mostly good news. | 2011-12-31 03:25:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
