Is Your Taste in Creating Levels the Same as Your Taste for Levels to Play?

The title's a bit of mess so if someone can recommend a nicer one that'd be great Over my time here I've noticed a lot people have stated that they create the games/levels they want to play. And tbh I never really understood this. When I hop into create mode I like to build things like tower defence games, top down racers, etc generally the slightly more complicated things. However when I jump into the community I tend head straight for the simple, silly and relaxing levels, usually a nice platformer. Do other people have such polar opposites in taste when switching from creating to playing? | 2011-03-05 02:48:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
I love playing and creating classic platforming levels, with the new tools of course! The only thing that differs in my playing prefference would be that I do preffer to play a cinematic or top down level every once in ahwile. | 2011-03-05 03:27:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
I try to make all kinds of different types of stuff, but I like everything good when I'm playing solo. I may pick different things or finish with an "I didn't pay attention" feel if I'm playing with friends. Depends on the friend too, 'cause it may be another creator, and we'll talk about how cool some technique or effect was, but probably still not read anything or pay attention to what we're actually doing. I like to play random cinematic levels when I want to go make some coffee while I'm playing with someone unless I assume it's going to be awesome, or someone told me to go check it out, then it's like a commercial break for me. | 2011-03-05 06:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
Meh, I'm random. long as it good i play it. same with making levels. long as its a fun idea i do it. *mew | 2011-03-05 08:13:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
I only like creating platformers, and the only time I ever play a level that I know isnt a platformer is when a friend drags me along. I spend all my time in LBP2 either working on my next platformer or playing other peoples. I only heart the best platformers I find. So yeah, Im all about platformers. | 2011-03-05 15:42:00 Author: ATMLVE Posts: 1177 |
Well my other post didn't make any sense. So to keep it short platformers is what made this game and platformers is what will make me keep this game | 2011-03-05 15:57:00 Author: tuyyui Posts: 175 |
without trying to sound like i think im some kind of completely unique artsy creator , but there arent alot of levels in the community like the ones im trying to make. i would love to see more RPGs and story driven levels out there (soon i will publish a series ) but as soon as i leave my moon and go to the communtiy pages, i get ready for some hardcore gaming just kidding, i play any sort of rubbish tbh honest , including (im not ashamed) crappy jumping levels and unfinished tech demos. | 2011-03-05 17:03:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
I don't really like several minute long cutscenes with in-depth sackboy acting and magic mouths explaining every little detail of the level. Sometimes it's OK, but more often than not, unskippable cutscenes get on my nerves and keep me from replaying some really neat levels I like just because I don't want to sit through that one lengthy cutscene. So I usually shy away from making that sort of stuff. | 2011-03-05 17:55:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Completely untrue for me, as I enjoy playing levels that make my draw drop and exclaim "How did they do that?" | 2011-03-05 19:16:00 Author: Unknown User |
My taste in playing levels is the same in creating them, when deciding to make a level I think to myself "What would I liek to play on LBP2?" or in the case of LBP1, and then I create what I want, in most cases it's story based platformer type levels. I've made some other levels like some Cube levels because I really loved the Cube movies, I made a Zelda water temple level when water was released because I really liked the Zelda Water Temples. Only annoying thing now is one of my friends is wating for me to make more Zelda temple based levels lol, they'll be waiting a long time the water was a one off because I loved the water temple in Zelda. Anyway that's about it for me I mostly just check around forums looking for some decent level to play, everytime I go into the community levels and play something I think will be good it turns out to be a piece of garbage that probably took the creator five minutes to make. Ggggggrrrrr, now I back to the same problem as LBP1, stick to finding good levels created by forum members to find something decent where the creators spent several hours to make a level. I'm not fussed on how detailed or how good a level is just as long as it took some time to make and not something that took the creator 5 - 10 mins to create. | 2011-03-05 20:47:00 Author: Elsa Posts: 164 |
