Moving platforms without pistons

Archive: 10 posts

Hi all I've been looking around the forums about creating moving platforms without using pistons, such as the ones posted by PloXyZeRO and steakmo. Which are great, but I decided to tinker with a sequencer and added a gyroscope and follower to stabilise it, similar to how PloXyZeRO did. In the sequencer version I found that it wasn't stable and would fall down. So I combined the two ideas and would like to share it with the community.

Below are the two set-ups that I have used (thanks to PloXyZeRO and steakmo) and serves as a nice reference image to look at.

I actually find the sequencer way to be more flexible as you add more movers onto the sequencer to produce different patterns of movement over time. Which can also trigger other things you may have on a microchip or elsewhere. If you play around with the various settings more you can get some interesting patterns. Left, right, up down and diagonal.

I prefer to use tags, which makes it easier to tell where the platform goes.

You can see my own version in my logic showcase level (link below).

Hi Yofig, do you have any images of your version to share? I'll check it out and add it to my queue. If anyone else has a different way and images of how they do theirs, please post here and share. This could serve as a good reference to how many ways this can be done.

I also find in the versions I've shown, it makes it easier to emit.

how do you get it to float, and when a player jumps on it how do you get it to not deviate from its normal path?2011-04-11 22:06:00

Are you asking about the platforms I have done in the diagrams or about Yofigs set-up?

With my set-up it's set to follow itself by following a blue tag so it does not deviate from the path and has a gryroscope set to max to stabilise it. Try to follow the diagrams and there are few videos on the tutorials section. One microchip is glued to the platform whilst the other one microchip is placed in front of it and follows it. So it stays up.

If you're still having problems let me know.

i figured it out, in your diagram you said to put the follower on the hollogram material and put the logic on the platform, your suppose to put it on the platform, and put the tag and the logic on the hollogram, thanks for your help though2011-04-12 04:35:00

That's good. I was thinking of giving the logic with notes away or a basic platform with the logic as prizes for acing the level I'm working on. Or may be put it in a 2 player area?2011-04-12 10:01:00

I have a small tutorial on how to do just this with my Tags, followers, and rotators sample level and an added tutorial level that demonstrates how to do it the platforms are completly stable and will not fall.
Level ::"Tags,Followers, and rotators Sample level" as soon as your done with the sample level hit the scoreboard and you will automatically go to the tutorial level.

Do you have a link or some info on what the level is called? I wouldn't mind checking it out, tried looking on lbp.me searching for your PSN ID but it says: This creator has chosen not to publish their information to the web. You can go to the website and change your settings so more people can access your stuff (that's if you want to).
