I'll get this out of the way now. I don't recommend this, But I'm still say why. At the beginning a weird looking alien shoots you into a pit and your inside a case. During the level I just said "What the hell is going on?" I didn't really notice it till the 2nd time i played through*. Then inside your case your are transported past some robots that don't strike me as anything but random. Gameplay ARKAD97 told me this level is meant to be HARDCORE. Honestly this made me excited. When I Think Well designed HARDCORE levels in LBP I instantly think of Dimo1138's Robo Rampage X Levels!. But Robo Rampage X this is not. The First difficult part of the level contains cheap instant death crushers . For these you need PRECISE timing, but more so luck. The 2nd noteworthy part of the level is a spinning wheel with a tunnel inside it. This tunnel is Cramped,Annoying,Hard to jump through, has a confusing entrance/exit but worst of all NOTHING CAN KILL YOU. I spent 3 minutes on this blasted boring thing. The 3rd part of interest is a room containing platforms that are connected to the wall only on 1 side. This parts not too tough but still annoying. Then after 1/3 of the level with once again nothing that can kill you. You come across easily the worst part of the level. A room with 6 segments of 2 VERY thing platforms above electricity that when you get near they either split up, split up and come back, or do nothing. Its random and even if you know what happens youll only land every 1/8 of the time. This part is VERY FRUSTRATING. I SPENT 10 MINUTES ON THIS 15 SECOND PORTION OF THE LEVEL. Overall the levels either frustratingly cheap or boring because half the time nothing can kill you. 6/50 (Terrible!) Atmosphere Materials in this level were correct for a factory stage but they are placed oddly sometimes. Like having bathroom tiles in the background. Also "Hum dee dum, pull this switch, walk down there, lala OH MY GOD ITS THE FLOOR WHAT THE HECK!". 10/30 (Not Very Good) Music & Sounds The Music for the most part was a bit unfitting. And there was a lack of sounds. There was a few sounds I noticed like the crusher things making impact sounds when they hit the floor. 8/20 (Sounded off to me) Final Thoughts GOD this level was unpleasant. It's supposed to be Hardcore but its just cheap. Half the time its torture for being cheap, and The other half its torture because theres no challenge. The level felt like the creator didn't put much effort, I mean how could ARKAD97 not think the cheap parts are cheap. I suggest not playing this. I would rather play a shark survival level. And thats saying something. 24/100 (This Sucked) * I Play through levels I review twice. Review #8 http://lbp.me/v/yeqrjd "Grappletastic" by TnTsyon Of all the new power ups added to LBP2, My favorite (Not counting the controllinator, That owns all) is the grappling hook. Its surprising no one made a bionic commando remake level yet. This level is based around the grappling hook (hence the name) in a bad way. Gameplay Through a large percent of this level you play using a grappling hook. The biggest complaint I have is that there is a HUGE amount of unexpected deaths. For example you fall down a pit with a grappling hook and there is sponge you just have to guess is there and grab it or you'll die. That type of situation happens ALL throughout the level, to the point where you pretty much expect them. Theres this one out of place part where you use a a grabinator to throw bombs at a block to clear out a bounce pad. I don't know why he put it there because directly after you just continue using grappling hooks. There are some parts where the sponges you have to grab are off screen and you have to guess where they are.It would've been better if the camera zoom was bigger.Overall its pretty cheap, poorly designed and unpleasant. 8/50 (Pathetic) Atmosphere There is pretty much no attempt to get the player into the theme. 80% of the level is made up of the same single cardboard material. Sponges are bland except for a few weird looking ones with green eyes for some reason. It just seems lazy overall. 3/30 (Bland) Music There are no sound effects which is lame. The single song used in the level is kinda fitting though. 8/20 (Jeeze) Overall Thoughts TnTyson has a nice concept. A level based around the grappling hook. But the execution is just lazy and poor. Through out the level I didn't really enjoy it. The creator could've put a lot more effort into this and it would be a decent level but as it is its pretty poor. 19/100 (Don't play it) Review #9! http://lbp.me/v/wqm-wk "Shade 2" by Cryogen This is another level I've been looking forward to. But this one like many I've reviewed disappointed me but it isn't terrible. Atmosphere This series excels at atmosphere. This level is dark like the original but in a different way. I like how its not just more of the same. What felt odd to me is that you don't continue where the last one left off. It sorta feels like it begins on its own somewhere else as nothing from the first was really addressed. There are these hellish creature that seem fun loving and evil sorta like the GremlinsTM from the GremlinsTM movies. They're kinda neat. It was excellent but the first was more powerful. 24/30 (Almost as good) Music and SFX The first song was fitting as you begin in a town with a pirate-ish feeling. Its fitting though halfway through the level in a vehicle the music changes. The 2nd song is fitting but the way its introduced is unfitting as the overall tone when the music changes doesn't. I didn't notice any sound effects during the game, I think he could've used more sounds to improve upon the great atmosphere 10/20 (Not Bad, Not Good, So-So) Gameplay This is really the only part that iffs me. The series has a dark atmosphere but it always get in the way. Every now and then its hard to see where to go, though Cryogen does use lights sometimes to help direct you. Sometimes switches were annoying because you kept turning them on and off, I think using a one shot device would've made it less annoying. A few times during the level it was kinda confusing where you were supposed to go, like this one part where I was swimming in dark water. Sometimes the platforming was kinda iffy and difficult. One nitpick I have is that there are no puzzles or boss like the first entry. Overall it does try things a bit more varied then the original didn't but doesn't feel as polished. 27/50 (Wasn't as good as the first) Final Thoughts I did say this level disappointed me, but unlike other levels I've reviewed this one only disappointed me because it wasn't as good as the first. It feels a bit unpolished. It's still a good level though, But like iv'e said before in the review it just wasn't as good as the first. But I do still recommend it and I look forward to the probable Shade 3. 61/100 (Not quite as great.) :star: Been a while since I gave one of these eh? | 2011-03-04 19:21:00 Author: DarrienEven Posts: 217 |
It's supposed to be Hardcore but its just cheap. That's usually the case. When a creator on LBP refers to their level as difficult(or whatever other term they decide to use), more often than not, it just an excuse for poor design. | 2011-03-06 01:54:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |

That's usually the case. When a creator on LBP refers to their level as difficult(or whatever other term they decide to use), more often than not, it just an excuse for poor design. but it is really hard, and pure platformer, only every 10th player can complete it, and some people really love it. (just 39 hearts) Andd tey wrote that in somments. And it is cheap because t is pure platfomer(not really god desighn) | 2011-03-08 20:06:00 Author: Unknown User |
Arkad did you even read the review? It IS poorly designed. I don't mind hard games as long as they are well designed. But yours is not. | 2011-03-08 20:25:00 Author: DarrienEven Posts: 217 |
Lol yeah <_< | 2011-03-08 22:01:00 Author: Unknown User |
but it is really hard, and pure platformer, only every 10th player can complete it, and some people really love it. Perhaps you should consider ways to keep the attention of the other nine that don't. Appealing to a broader audience wouldn't hurt, and it will only enhance your experience as a designer. | 2011-03-11 20:24:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
Thanks for the review (for some reason it made me smile) I clearly have much to learn but at least from here the only way is up. There's just one thing I'd like to add... I don't think it was lazy as such just that I really didn't think about things in the right way, or even consider that there is soooo much more I could add (atmosphere wise etc. Thank you very much for your time and I will take your points on board as I venture forth in to creating something better (which by the sounds of your review shouldn't be hard ) | 2011-03-11 21:51:00 Author: TnTyson Posts: 25 |
