Logic Library

Archive: 19 posts

I added a full font (alphabet only) as a scoreboard prize that I cut out using the stickers provided in the story levels (nothing special - anyone could do it, but now you don't have to ).

I also added a bit of gameplay to keep it interesting. Plus, there's a couple of easter egg hidden bubble caches in the level (cuz that's just the way I roll). Good luck finding them!

Here are some pics:

ATTENTION SPOTLIGHT CREW: This is a showcase gallery of logic chips. Not worthy of a spotlight, so please don't bother (I know how huge your backlog is right now)!!

Great stuff, man! There are several gems in here that I think many non-logic-oriented creators will find really useful.... and some that will save some seasoned creators time. Plus, it's all wrapped up in a nice looking level.

Just having a nice little deathless transporter thrown in is worth it alone.

Just a little bump to say that I've added another tool/prize to the level. An electro-magnet. I think it's pretty cool. Lemme know what you guys think.2011-03-05 05:12:00

Well now I have to go play it again to get that electro-magnet

How do I use this teleporter? It just seems to be a microchip with a blank emitter on it. I don't understand how to use it.

vERY easy to use the tele porter. Attach a switch to the iput of the microchip, and it works. Your sack boy pops right out of it.2011-03-05 12:01:00

There have been a lot of logic levels popping up. It's starting to be a trend here. I'm not complaining, just they're everywhere. Maybe all the logic level peoples could have their own group just for the logic level peoples. You know, collaborate. Or at least their own thread. <(^w^<)2011-03-05 12:06:00

Yep - just as Ccubbage says. I did put instructions in the level. Perhaps I need to update the prize chip with a brief explanation too (this is the third such response I've had about the teleporter).

The reason it appears to be an empty emitter is that what is being emitted is a tiny square of invisible holo with four auto-enter controlinators on it (shrunk down as small as possible). If you were to change the settings on the emitter to a longer lifespan in create mode, you could pause it, grab the emitted object and enlarge to see what I'm doing on it. I reverse engineered this in the same manner from a chip that singeagle made and distributed in the beta (I think I may have even given him credit on the saved object description - I meant to, but I can't recall).

Not a bad idea.

I played through this a number of times, as I searched in vain for all the hidden bubble caches. The presentation is outstanding and creative giving a very nice and enjoyable method of seeing the item in action.

Your level excelled in the 'let-them-see-that-they're-getting' department which is good to show potential applications but also to let the player make an informed decision on getting what they want.

I still need to dig through all the different prize bubbles to see how you've annotated them or done certain actions but I think that these items are useful and relevant information/objects for many creators.

The only down side I had with the level is that the bounce pad inside the drawer to get up to the top level at the very beginning of the level is off-screen and raised up. When I first played it took me a good while to figure out that it was there at all as I was just jumping around blindly, finding bubbles but not much else. It was a random jump that got me on it and up but even with the arrow letting me know I was on the right path it wasn't too intuitive getting onto the bouncepad initially.

The helping hands were helpful though there were some sections where I just wanted to dive into the nitty gritty and pick apart the logic but this is not readily viewable in the level. For a logic library this is acceptable as the point is that the level is the repository rather than the teacher.

Great work on this.

Wow - great feedback, Trindall. Thank you!

As for the bounce pad in the drawer, I originally had it without the arrow. I only added the clue after watching my boy fumble about trying to figure out where to go next. Actually my original idea here was to have both drawers open and close, but I never got the movers working properly (dunno if it was a vertex issue or a friction problem, but they kept getting "stuck" either open or closed). But just so you know, if you had trouble with that bounce pad and were inside the other drawer, the bubbles in there count as one of the 3 hidden caches (so maybe you found them all and you didn't even know it?).

Anyway... thanks gain.

NOTE: I've added another tool/prize. A two-way counter that I worked on for Masuoka101 in the [LBP2] Help! forum. Check it out (Trindall, you've probably already seen it).

Shouldn't they go in the Object Showcase instead of the Level Showcase?

Also a good point. And I thought about just putting this one in the Object Showcase forum, but it is not just one object and I put a fair amount of work into including some gameplay.

It would be interesting to see the two drawer set up but I completely understand the difficulty in getting it to work properly. I think there is still some fine tuning and kinks to be ironed out of the client in the months ahead.

Actually the bubbles cache in the drawer have been the first and only cache I've found so far so I'll be looking again as I check your bi-directional counter in my next play.

Object Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?60-Object-Showcase)

The debate about object showcase versus level showcase is an interesting one that I think will come up more and more. Would a costume level or a music level be considered an object on display or a level to play? Or going all the way would a movie only level be anything else other than an object level since there is zero gameplay in it?

My initial reaction on this particular level is that this would belong in the Level Showcase due to the presentation, bubble hunting aspects, platforming elements and different areas with different showcased items/tech.

The LBPC LogicTech levels, though larger and more complex, are similar in nature to this level. A playable area showing off different tech elements and giving the players tools to use in making better levels. I think once a level of this nature pass a certain complexity level or scope then it transitions from being just an object to show players but into a level to play.

I don't have hard criteria but I know it when I see it.

Achh!!! I provided feedback to the wrong level. Sorry for the confusion. I will queue this one up.

PS I don't really care one way or the other that this is in the Level Showcase. I just have a habit of being the Devils Advocate.

I liked the presentation. Everything had a short and to the point demo. The stickers on the chips were chosen well. The logic chips I have seen before. Nothing I needed. I was glad you made the prize bubbles optional. Many levels get that wrong.

LOL, that's cool. But I'm confused... It doesn't appear that you actually played my level (these are the comments you left on Yofig's logic showcase level (http://lbp.me/v/yenyqq)).

I guess I can understand the confusion though - there really are a lot of these out there lately. Here's mine, if you're still interested:

Ok this time I'm in the right place.
+ The art on this is really nice.
+ The magnet was the highlight for me. It is not something I have seen before.
* I enjoyed the part where the items appeared in space. That was a cool effect. I like how the teleporter brings you to that room as well.
- The first part of the level before reaching the gallery was confusing. It makes me feel like I maybe missed stuff.

Yeah - I really have no good excuse for the first part. There's no real rhyme or reason - no real story to it. I was just playing around with some of the materials, and started building a short bit of platforming and then left it sitting on my moon. When I decided I wanted to create a logic showcase level, I came back to it and started adding stuff to the end.
(and you probably didn't miss anything)
