A new 3D layer glitch tool created in LBP2?
Archive: 8 posts
Hi, I've done some searching and can't find any info on this. I've just created (by accident) an emitter that emits a 3 thick layer piece of material in the two front layers and the first layer of the foreground. The emitter emits an object from the level and not an object in my goodies bag, so I can add any shaped 3 layer thick piece, and when it's emitted it's pushed forward one layer. The emitted objects have some unusual properties. You cannot edit the pieces with the corner editor, you cannot cut into the pieces with other materials, they behave like the original glitch tools created in LBP1. If you copy one of the pieces (but not place it), then select a material from your goodies bag, the material takes up the same 3 layers (just like the way you use the other 3D layer glitches from LBP1). It differs from the normal foreground glitches I've seen in that it doesn't use up the back playable layer. It is 3 layers thick, so you can walk behind it in play mode. I've only just created it so I haven't really experimented with it too much. I wasn't using any other 3D layer glitches in the level, and the level was almost empty. I was just experimenting with an idea for a new level. I'd read that Mm had patched up the ability to create new 3D glitch tools ages ago, so any information whether it is a known glitch would be gratefully received. EDIT:- I've been experimenting with it a bit. I started with adding the glitched material to the original object and re-spawning it. This pushed the piece forward again - creating a piece of glitched material in the front layer and two foreground layers. I repeated this 12 times and ended up with a piece three layers thick in the 10th foreground layer. http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG01.jpg I made them out of dissolve material so that I could separate the pieces from the emitted object. If you tried to delete any part of the emitted object the whole thing is deleted. http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG02.jpg I found that you can select which layers you want to create in by selecting the layers, copying them, then selecting a material from your goodies bag. The result is a material that covers the range of layers included in your selection. http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG03.jpg http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG04.jpg You can also reduce the thickness of the material. http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG05.jpg http://www.soundscan.karoo.net/images/LBPFG06.jpg The shapes you create after selecting your material from your goodies bag can overlap only if they're attached to dark matter before they're moved to overlap the other foreground layer objects. Uses:- I think the most useful application for this glitch is when you want material in the foreground that is more than three layers thick and that do not use up the playable layers. | 2011-03-04 05:37:00 Author: fluxlasers Posts: 182 |
I don't think MM patched it, 'cause there are a crap-ton of 3d layer tools out there for LBP2. Just go to LBP.me and do a search for "3d layer glitch". But congrats on stumbling onto it yourself, and thanks for the detailed write up on how to work with the glitch! | 2011-03-04 17:59:00 Author: Boscoe Posts: 51 |
Thanks Boscoe for your comment and congratulations. I've seen all the levels with the 3D layer tools, and know they can still be used in LBP2. However, these all seem to be copies of old glitch tools and I thought Mm had patched the ability to create new ones (but not patched the ability for creators to use the old ones). Also, all the foreground layer glitch tools I've seen use up the playable layers, while these don't. I was searching for a foreground layer tool that didn't use up the playable layers (to use in a level I was working on) a while ago, but couldn't find one. These seem to be different in that you can select which layers you want to create in and offer more flexibility that the old foreground layer tools. However, I may be wrong. | 2011-03-04 18:37:00 Author: fluxlasers Posts: 182 |
Also, all the foreground layer glitch tools I've seen use up the playable layers, while these don't. I was searching for a foreground layer tool that didn't use up the playable layers (to use in a level I was working on) a while ago, but couldn't find one. Comph's one should do the trick, which you can pick up from this level (http://lbp.me/v/pzcvjm), and the instructions are here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=31015-Extra-Layer-Tool-Tutorial). One slight problem is the new object restrictions in LBP2 make it impossible to use without using the trick I describe here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50900-HOW-TO-Get-LBP1-Alphabet-Fonts-Working-In-LBP2&p=789607&viewfull=1#post789607) to remove the object linkage restriction. It's a little tricker, due to how far back the "key object" is, so you'll need to modify the process slightly... Place the 'tool' from Community Objects. Capture the set as a new object into My Objects. Place the copy of the set from My Objects. Switch to "Front View", and use box-select to select the rear-most piece. Without deselecting, switch off "Front View" so you can see what you're doing. 'Walk' the piece towards the playable layer by pressing R1 and R2 alternately. Material change that piece to dissolve, and attach a battery to it. Unpause (if necessary) to allow the piece to dissolve. The remaining pieces can now all be copied/pasted individually. You'll probably want to recapture it after you've done all that, so you don't have to do it all over again. | 2011-03-05 23:58:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
Thanks for the link Aya, and your instructions for removing the object linkages. This is exactly what I was searching for, I suppose this was lost in all the other levels that have 3D glitches. | 2011-03-07 01:23:00 Author: fluxlasers Posts: 182 |
I actually recreated comphermc's 3d tool in LBP2 with no gamertag on it. I've got it in a backed up level. I could give it to you if you wanted, but I think putting it in a prize bubble would ruin it's editability. But if you capture it yourself it's just like you made it yourself. If you want it I have it. Just remember it was originally made by comphermc, not myself so all credit to him. | 2011-03-07 01:29:00 Author: Kitkasumass Posts: 494 |
Firstly, congrats on finding it, many people can build from this. Also, Kitkasumass, I have a tool like that with no gamertag too, but my friend clay gave me it. He let me capture it. That version was originally by TheAdipose. There are many ways of using the 3D tool, differnt methods being more effectiv than others. I find it easier to use it the way used in DrunkenFist_Lee's level - has anyone re-created that? You sort of have, fluxlasers, with this. Thanks. | 2011-03-10 21:15:00 Author: mutant_red_peas Posts: 516 |
I like to play with the extra layers, although I don't think I've ever had the foreground layers interfere with the playable area. I also revamped comphermc's tool for LBP2, it's collectable in my level (with credit to the original creator) if anyone needs. | 2011-03-29 22:14:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
