Might Get PSP

Archive: 28 posts

As of recent news that you may have heard, my PS3 went kaboom. Okay it really had the YLOD, not an explosion...

So I've been wondering, should I get the PSP and LBP on it?

My thoughts:
-The NGP is arriving but it may come sometime in 2012, a long ways off.
-How does the PSP work with online, how does it connect to the internet and can I use my PSN account on it?

I may still be getting a PS3 along with the PSP, just sometime after, and my decision to get a PSP is not final...so, advice?

Well... I'd go with a PS3 again, and just wait for the NGP.

I have a PSP, along with LBP PSP, and... it doesn't really compare. I found it extremely hard to go from the tools of the PS3 version to the tools of the PSP version. It's just not as easy to use, and is much more limited, in my opinion. The story still has some cool platforming and puzzles, but it lacks that media molecule charm that the first and second games on the PS3 have.

That and the fact that the PSP version doesn't have multiplayer or an extremely busy community, I just can't really see myself going back and even finishing the story.

yes you can use your PSN
there are some good things about it - ability to change from dynamic to static without dark matter - excellent corner editer - very good levels (I know amazinggflyingpoo said that ZEN was he's favorite level PSP/PS3 - and also portability
there's a whole lotta bad stuff about LBP PSP (corrupt levels profile) but the limitations sorta make it easier.
both games were pretty much the same with different strengths and weaknesses but now that lbp2 is out... yeah

Ya I know you mean I've felt that too several times, but if you're thinkin about switching to LBP2 for good, just take a look at the create mode and everything you CAN do. It's almost too much and it's another whole set of tools to learn (I always press "right" in the popit to go to the goodies bag but on PS3 it's the "stickers" page haha it's the small things. I've gotten more and more used to the PS3 version but I'd have to say some of the things like static and dynamic and especially the amazing corner editor...oh and it's portable..are just things that I liked with LBP. In your case I wouldn't say you're retiring from PSP, I find it more fun creating for a smaller audience, getting recognized, and making something really special and I'm sure you will too. Something about walking around the house switching from couch to bed to chair back to couch and looking at a smaller screen was just more pleasing to me and the 3 thick layers on PS3 can almost get overwhelming when starting from scratch and making a Jonzian platformerish level is just madness...it's hard....I've tried....

Anyways I hope this changes your mind about "retiring" from PSP and that you see the game more like I do as just one in the rotation of games that you pick up when you have a good idea that's just better on PSP than PS3.

Stick with the PS3.

The PSP side has decayed due to the NGP and LBP2. The Tavern is really the only place where veteran PSPers are still active.

List of everything you did wrong:
1. Insulted PSP
2. Insulted PSP Community (which is so much better than PS3)
3. Insulted create mode (you like dark matter, really?)

lol I'm just kidding. you're entitled to ur opinion, but PSP was really great. But with all this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50869-NGP-My-Worries-about-LBP-PSP-s-Future) going on, it saddens me to say PSPs days are almost over.

If you're still looking into getting a PSP, I'll answer these. In LBP for PSP you have this thing called a Community Moon. You connect via wifi (through your normal PSN) then can download whatever you please.

there has been a price decrease in the game so there has been a slight increase of levels.
the only people in these forums are the people without PS3s and the people that just talk about the NPG

it saddens me to say PSPs days are almost over.
huge slap in the face for The Hoarder there hey Taffey's making another level for PSP yay!

If I were you, just get another PS3 and wait for the NGP.
No offense to the PSPers, but the PSP side is getting quieter, even with these new members joining in.
I don't even log in the LBPC that often anymore, and I only create when I have the time.

Don't get me wrong, the LBP for the PSP is still great, no matter what anyone says.
The people who say it isn't, are just used the the LBP PS3 create mode.
The create mode on the PSP will definitely take some time to get used to.
I'll honestly say it took me at least a month to get pretty decent at creating.

It doesn't really take a lot to impress us PSPers, and I definitely noticed that.
I'm pretty sure it takes probably a lot more to impress people over in the PS3 side.
So if you're already great at creating on the PS3, then I'm guessing creating on the PSP wouldn't annoy you as much as other people.

So I basically just turned my opinion around here.
Get a PSP and buy LBP for it. It won't hurt to try something...familiar?
But the choice is still really up to you.

Hey it's down to you in the end, but don't be put off that the community is smaller than the LBP PS3 community. Everything's a lot easier to keep track of and there's still a decent number of levels coming out - heck just check the PSP spotlight, we get at least 3/4 spotlight worthy levels every 2 weeks, and usually a good few nods also.

There's really plenty of reasons to get it, and just as many to neglect the game, but for what it's worth I found the swap from PS3 to PSP really easy. There's less layers to complicate things, no need to think about multiplayer, corner editing is better and the levels are of a similar quality to PS3 levels. And I was swapping to PSP back when huge bugs plagued everything (switches imploding, dissolve not dissolving, and who remembers the pain of captured items being totally uneditable!?!).

ut as I said, it's really down to whetehr you want to spend the money - I'd definitely recommend though

In order to be different, get an Xbox.

Lol just kidding, it seems that everyone on this site hates Xbox though I get along quite well with an Xbox as my main console and a PSP for playstation exclusives.

While you can use your PSN on the PSP, you can't add friends or anything as far as I know because I haven't been able to. Plus, the PSP is practically dead. In my opinion, just get another PS3 for now, and play it by ear with the NGP.

Well, there are upsies to the PSP and downsies.

The Upsies

A lot of GOOD levels
-Although the PSP side has grown quite inactive, there are still over 10,000 good levels to play on it. It'll keep you playing for a while-

That Community BUMP
-I posted a little while ago that the PSP community had a little bump in numbers. Probably, this will be the biggest amount of players until the NGP is released-

Besides LBP
-There is an abundance of good games BESIDES LBP, don't limit yourself JUST to LBP-

The Downsies

I can't hear you!
-Yeah, the community is a little quiet-

My Opinion

Yeah, You probably should
-The PSP isn't entirely based upon LBP PSP, it does a LOT of different stuff.
I've always considered it the PS3's shadow. You'll get a unique experience aside of PS3.
The price has been reduced $39.99 so I suppose it's worth it, despite this late stage.
Hey, if you ever make a level, I'll be there to give you feedback-

Please note that this is MY SEPERATE opinion, I think I'm somewhat Biased in a way, so don't buy soley because "I told you so"

Have a great weekend.

Don't get a PSP for LBP PSP.
Get LBP PSP if you get a PSP.

There's a big difference between the two. Be wise.

Oh just get it man!
Ignore those traitors at the top of the page!
I am proud owner of all lbp games to date! and psp is way up at joint first alongside lbp2.

Now go to the shops get it and love it!
PS. If I hadn't 'retired' from lbp then I would be playing it now.

i think that you are all forgetting that although the community is quiet now, there are still heaps of awesome old levels.
(also, i assume that the psp would be quite cheap now with the announcement of NGP soon.)

If you're getting a PSP, make sure you you get the downloadable version unless you get a GO, then you'll need to. I have a PSP 3000, and the UMD reader is very picky on when it wants to work. If I were you, I'd get a PSP GO.2011-03-06 19:46:00

Sure, get LBP PSP if you really want to. If I only had a PSP at this point, I would probably get it too. But now that LBP2 is out and almost everybody is drifting towards the PS3 side...eh, I'm sorry to say that it looks like my PSP creating days, although short, have come to an end. It makes me sad to say this, as I started out my LBP experience on the platform, but the playing community has just grown too small for my liking. There's not enough people out there to play my levels anymore. Coffee Cake was too late for the community. 2011-03-07 00:15:00

Well, why not get something that's halfway between a PS3 and a PSP?

Presenting.... the Polystation 3!

I'm not trying to advertise anything here but I heard that there might be a pretty nifty level series coming out exclusively for the PSP... it had something to do with some valuable metal that had disappeared... Oh wait...

Yeah well, even though I'm not really active on the PSP side of LBPC, I still love playing the PSP levels and also building on it. Being able to build anywhere is a really good thing (unless of course you have access to the PS3 pretty much all the time...)
Creating on the PSP might seem hard at first but it is really fun once you get used to it. Just remember to back up your saves, that is really important!

I completely see where you're coming from but I'd have to disagree, respectfully of course. I think that LBP PSP is one of the best PSP games out there and it's one that doesn't get old. As long as you like creating it's a great choice, and if you're young, it'll last at least until the NGP comes out, and longer sicne that'll have a hefty price tag. I think it's the BEST PSP game out there since it's the most complete, and actually fills up all of the UMD/download space (shown by the minor save file bugs). All of its bugs can be prevented and I haven't bought any of the DLC but I still find it satisfying to play. In my opinion, the little costume packs are a waste of money and I don't really know how much is in each level pack but it sounds like it's the same way (unless there was a price cut which I feel like there was.)

However, if you're planning on getting a handheld for sure, and would be willing to dish out $300 or so for the NGP, I'd say wait, only from personal experience regretting paying for something else I barely use.

I agree wholeheartedly. Except for the part where--

if you're young, it'll last at least until the NGP comes out

What does being young have to do with it?

Well not with the NGP part of it, but I guess I lost track of what I was saying on that part. I meant that the game (being on a portable system) will last longer if you're young, because I for one am getting busier and busier and am finding it hard to find time to play it. I guess that part didn't have much to do with it on second thought but you can see my point.

Ah. See, I bus everywhere, so I use LBP to kill waiting-for-the-bus and riding-the-bus time. Plus breaks. Plus when I get home. My friends and family miss me.2011-03-31 23:57:00

Long time no visit. I've missed this place!

Anyway, I am personally in favor of NOT getting a PSP. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great console. I just think it's a waste of money when you know something better is on the horizon. Plus, the games are very limited and there really isn't all that much out for it that's good, but neither is the PS3.

Rant: Why isn't the PS3 a better form of the PS2? Where are all my RPGs. Why is everything a shooter?!?!?!

Then again, I really, really enjoy LBP for the PSP. The one thing that really kills it is the glitches. They are avoidable, but it's rediculous how much time you spend trying to avoid them/fix them.

I have always been of the opinion that bigger =/= better. LBP 2 has amazingness for creative tools, but it's just rediculous. I found creating anything good was nearly impossible as I wasn't sure how to go about doing it. Plus, no static materials is a killer. Sure, dark matter CAN fix it, but it's just annoying. If your decision is based entirely on LBP, then get a psp.
