Reseting a toggle switch?

Archive: 7 posts

I'm making a three lap race. I have done the track design and cars but I have run into a problem on the logic.

The way Iam counting laps is having five tag sensors of four colors around the track, five per player, and they will be connected to toggle switches, the toggle switches are connected to an AND gate which is connected to a counter. The counter is set for three so when all toggle switches have been activated they will add one to the counter.

The problem is reseting the toggle switches; I want to reset them after each new lap but there is no reset imput on the toggle switches; what should I do? Thank you to anyone who helps.

Replace them with 2-port selectors.2011-03-03 19:21:00

You can also use counters set to 1 instead of toggles. That gives you a one-shot toggle, and they have a reset input.2011-03-03 20:01:00

Yeah, you don't want to be using toggle switches here. Like hcwcmatt stated, counters set to 1 are much better. You can have the output of the AND gate go to the reset of the counters. That way, when you count up a lap, all counters are reset.2011-03-03 21:00:00

I have a problem that is kinda related to this. I would like to know if there is a way to reset a toggle to the on position... regardless of whether it is already on..... if that makes sense :/2011-03-20 21:21:00

Use a two-port Selector. The Cycle input will act as a 'toggle', and you can additionally use the regular ports to 'set' or 'reset' it.

Thanks, though could you elaborate a bit more for me? I'm fairly new to logic. I currently have an OR switch connected to my toggle, and an AND switch connected to that. I want to be able to keep those effects going, if the "reset" (ie, switching the toggle to "on") is activated.

EDIT: Nevermind.... worked a treat. Thanks.

So is there any advantage of having a toggle over a two-port selector?
