Ingame HUB - Levels that deserves more attention

Hi,

considering how few levels get to the Cool/MMpick page, there are lots of good levels hidden deep among the trash and most people are not aware of them at all. There are some real gems with less than 50 plays etc.

This is imho bad not just for creator (low amount of plays is dissapointing and discorauging). But also for players, because they are missing lots of fun.

So I created a HUB level with list of levels that I really liked, but are unknown to most of the people. (I did not included any of my levels there. So this is not hidden promotion of my creations)

So if you are looking for some levels to play and you run out of cool/mmpick section, you can use this as a alternative source of fun.

Currently contain 30 levels (with level links, screenshots and short description to get you idea if you want to start that level) - but Im open for new suggestion to expand this collection.

Of course this forum was one of my sources. So you might recognize some of your levels there too. But I hope even people from here can find there some unknown levels.

A great idea, and an un-selfish one which is rare in LBP!!! Will check it out... I completely agree with the sentiments and know a lot of creators who get really disheartened when they put their heart and soul into making something and hardly anyone gets to play it!2011-03-03 16:23:00

If you know any such levels/creators... let me know. I would love to play them and hopefully include them.
I was playing a lot recently and I found out it is more and more difficult to find good level not present in cool section. So if anybody is aware of some others... I would live to try them.

I also created this, because advertisin on the forums is nice - but you will get "just" hundreds of vews there and much less plays. So I just wanted t otry, if doing such promotion level ingame (where everybody can see it) will bear better results.

It seems to be taking flight!

I really hope so, because I tried this yesterday and found a gallery of really impressive levels and one I'll come back to again!

My only real niggle was with the navigation, I found it a LITTLE cumbersome and thought, perhaps a menu system with the levels listed could make it easier (and more accessible) for potential players.

That aside, well done on supporting the little guy. One of the genuinely good ideas to make it into LBP2 so far!

Agarwel, first off, nice job and thanks. This level was taking off yesterday (deservedly so) and you introduced me to some cool levels.

A couple suggestions. 1) Increase the elevator strength, as it can only lift one sackboy. Better yet, revamp the elevator altogether. It wasn't initially obvious it would lead me to further levels and plus it's kind of plain jane. 2) Maybe consider grouping levels by type? (performer, arcade, other) 3) Stick to the 40 level limit. If you want to add more, do a part 2.

EDIT: Oh, just now I thought how awesome your level would be if the levels were grouped by type and selectable via a revolving control, like a vending machine. Take it or leave it, not necessary, but a suggestion nonetheless.

Great idea. Maybe you could even turn it into a jukebox of sorts?

Very interesting idea, as others have said. I only tried a couple, but it looked like you had a nice collection of non-traditional levels there.

I could really see this idea being expanded upon. As others have said, the actual level part could be improved. I could see a menu or jukebox style system working, or if you want to stick with the way it is, maybe organize them by genre into floors or wings (like a gaming museum!). As long as navigating it is easy.

I like the screenshots you had, but it would be even cooler if each level was its own little exhibit with some custom decoration or props relating to the theme of level.

I agree with Hoplyte as well, stick to a hard limit for each level and then if you want do a part 2 (part 1 could link to part 2 as well). This way it could be a series and if some of the games end up exploding in popularity, it would be clear that the ones that are still underplayed are in the most recent part.

I get similar idea too. Because now it is kind of unfair. I checked that LCD racer received over 500 plays since yesterday. Because its a first level. The more hidden levels (no matter how good) were checked just by few people.
I dont like the idea of giving completelly random levels "take it or leave it". But I thought that later on I will remade it into menu system. And when you start a level, it should choose randomly where you start. From the begginging? Middle? End.... so everybody should see different level whenthey start it. But then they could navigate as they wish.

When I remade it, I would like to sort them by genre. But when I was creating this first version - I had no idea what will be the feedback (this is not original idea - many hubs exists) and how many levels I will put together. So I did not wanted to sped time with detail. But I have itching to recreate it to more user friendly menu based level.

Regarding decorations - well... I dont have artistic talent at all. So this would be pain for me :-D No matte rhow cool this idea is, Im not able to realize it :-/

Plus Im really desperate from that "Link Locked Glitch". It behaves completelly random. I suspect that game is confirming ll links funkcionality online. And has some timeout. So with so mmany links, so of them are not verified and remain locked until reload (that probably remembers the last verification so it manages to unlock new levels)
So maybe emiting links one by one will help? Lets hope...

A neat and selfless idea, though I'm sure it's paying dividends to your heart and play totals. I hearted this level just to be able to easily come back and play other people's levels that I may or may not ever heart! Anyway, I can agree that an enhanced system of selection would be cool, but considering you're really only doing this to promote other people's levels, I wouldn't blame if you spent your time working on your own. Ok, easier solution. Put in bounce pads on the left and right to get up easy as well as a way to drop down to different levels. Republish every few days for 2 weeks, moving the initial spawn point to a different corner each time.

Then as a final touch, put my level right next to the start point (just kidding)

On a side note, when will someone make a hub world off the best hub worlds?

Thanks for including my levels in there, already seen the number of plays increasing and I'm certain it is because of the hub you have created.

Its a great idea btw (Ok, so I am slightly biased ), I will be going back to it frequently until I've tried all 40 levels!
