Giving material holographic properties

Archive: 7 posts

Is it possible to make something out of a real material that will closely follow an object in and out of layers? so far I am only able to accomplish this with holo but it really takes away from the appearance. The following item blocks the main part from moving back into the foreground unless it is holo and the other item can pass through it briefly.

Anyway I have tried in and out movers on both things and the follower still will override it and still block it from moving forward. Can I just put a sticker of a different material on the holo and it will look right (just thought of that one, can't test till later)??

Any suggestions would be awesome hopefully that all makes sense. Thanks all.

It sounds like you'd need some extra logic to move the follower object first when moving in, and move the follower object last when moving out.

Using holo and sticking a decoration on it to make it look solid would definitely be my first choice.

I believe just placing the sticker will just make it a color. Unless it's a decoration.

So the problem here is that when you try to move something forward, another thing (That also moves forward) blocks the other one for a brief second. Thus not allowing the one in the back to move forward?

Thanks for the replies. Cryogen both items should move together but the following object is basically on top of the main object. The following object's in & out mover will not override the follower to move out from the back most thick layer and the thin layer right in front of that. I worry that briefly turning off the follower to move it out might cause the thin following item to be 'dropped' momentarily. More testing to be done later today.2011-03-03 07:39:00

Since you're using in out movers, is the follower set to "Allow move in & out"? By the sound of it, you don't really need the "In out option" to be on.

If I'm wrong again, can I ask for some pics?

As Cryogen alluded to, you can achieve some pretty decent illusions by creatively attaching decorations (not stickers) to holo. They will move through any material just like holo. Don't know if that's a viable option for you, but it can be pretty effective when it's done right.2011-03-03 08:24:00

Thanks for the replies i have been working with the decorations the shapes are kind of tough to work with making it fit to my object but it is looking like the best option for me right now. I feel like i need to go find some more decorations in the levels.2011-03-04 04:23:00
