I took all the F4F advice and remade my originals to give you the best 3D Star Wars shooter in LBP!

Haha, well, anyway - this is still F4F and I want to continue updating this to make it the best experience so I appreciate comments.

But I hope you enjoy!

This looks cool, I'm intrigued. Surprised after 23 views no has commented so I figured I would.

Would you please play the level in my sig.

Just played! Well to be honest, its a cool level, but it needs some fixing.

I found each scene to drag on way too long, I ended up just sitting there for a while and still barely got damaged.
I suggest you make each part significantly shorter and maybe add in some cool lighting effects and stuff to make it snazy.

Thanks Krondelo. I lessened the wait time and took off 30s of flight/fight tiime as well as added in more enemies.

Snazzy lighting? I will have to think how to do that!

Yeah I have special explosion graphics when Y-Wings destroy Star Destroyers and if you make multi-kills on TIE fighters, but I can see adding more ~2011-03-03 08:37:00

I enjoyed that quite a lot, to be fair i dont think i've shot that many tie fighters in my whole gaming career haha but hey i topped the scoreboard! one thing to think about maybe would be to use one of the 2d planes for the rocks and enemies to maybe stop collisions? just a thought.
Please try my new level 8-bit Cowboys and post your thoughts here https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51704-8-Bit-Cowboys!-Sprite-based-shooting-adventure.
Thanks!

Played it (again).
Few things you might take into consideration for further updates:

- The asteroid field part is a bit too long. Also that "clonking" sound of colliding rock is a bit disturbing. Maybe you make the asteroids out of a different material like sponge or dissolve and use stickers to paint them to look like rock.
- Compared to your earlier version this one is quite a TIE-Fighter shooting fest. However the level lost a littlebit of the 3D illusion. The effect of flying through space, and the illusion of TIE-Fighters approaching you from the distant was stronger in your earlier version.
- You should maybe add a hit effect to the X-Wing to visualize when it's taking damage.
- It would also be a nice effect and contribute to the piloting feeling if you added a slight roll effect to the X-Wing, when you move sidewards. It can be done with gyroscopes that are activated when you move to the side and make the X-Wing incline a bit when moving sidewards.

Keep it up!

-Yes, I also think the asteroid part is still too long after replays. I will shorten it again as it is not really integral storyline. And yes, the clonking -- actually I have plans to change them to explode on impact with the X-Wing.
-I loved the 3D from the earlier version but it means I have to keep less action happening onscreen (as more action onscreen makes it so that the TIEs will just fade instead of respawning as bigger & bigger. This is also why reinforcements may not arrive even if you press Triangle -- the screen is too busy and there is no place for them to spawn -- but I will make them spawn offscreen and come onscreen. Also, I am considering making the TIEs fly PAST the X-wing instead of towards the X-wing - and subsequently you taking damage whenever they make it past you.

-I will look into more damage effect options for the X-wing, thanks!
-The gyroscope is on the x-wing, actually, but I failed to get it to roll properly without turning into a terminal spin -- I will re-look at my logic again. Actually, I know the BEE in the meterials will do this too - which is where I got that idea.

Thanks again for all the suggestions - I really appreciate it!

I redid it again to add in all of your suggestions and I'm working on more improvements. Give it another go around (it's shorter this time - and a little bit harder) and let me know what else I can do!2011-03-07 12:03:00

F4F
Hi there, I played your level earlier today, you really pulled the 3D aspect off well, i was impressed how you made the missiles appear to travel into the distance.
One suggestion I think you should add waves of enemies, instead of all of them coming at you, having some of the waves featuring, say a TIE bomber, with increased health and differnt attacks etc.
Overall, your level was quite fun, and ill definately play it again, I gave your level a 'yay', well done
If you could do F4F on my movie level 'The Machiniac' in my sig, thanks.

Button mashing is fun again! Weapons were flawless. Starfighter reproductions looked accurate. Simple, elegant, and fun. My only critcism is that Tie Fighters normally attack in diving waves, rather than rushing in on a random flightpath. Chasing a line of TFs across the screen would make the game more exciting and difficult. Also, I miss those great elephant whooshing flyby sound effects from the movies. 4.5/5 Great little minigame.2011-03-11 17:13:00

here you go

+++:
- nice text!
- nice visuals!
- much love put' in in the level

---:
- the game starts pretty confusing. if you don't know how to play or that it starts you can get surprised very fast
- i had no idea how to win or how to lose / it totally needs a tutorial i think
- the real shoot with the enemies starts to fast. as well you just random press buttons without able to use any skills to defeat them.
- i got no damage when stones or enemies frontal hit' me

notes/ideas/tipps:
- can you try to animate the beginning a bit more? if not it's ok - just an idea to make it look more awsome
- small ships random disappeard what looked funny and not professional. it as well looks funny if you use the "grow" effect as emitter effect. as well i woudl suggest to try to let them appear out of screen not visible.
- why do they fly or don't flay on different layers?
- after a few minutes i just started to crash into the enemies... was more fun and looked like i got no damage at all - you might want to prevent this
- it takes a bit long till you can shoot again. we want to shoot fast
- funny idea: it looked sometimes a bit like a star wars tower defence... that would be a fun idea! take it if you want

rating:
- plz don't hurt me if i say this, but it looks more like a demo of a upcoming game instead of a finished one.
it needs a bit work i think but i see you put in a lot effort and i must say keep it up!

F4F: you did it allready

PS: if you like shooter maybe the level from my good friend is fun for you to play
this one: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=52273-Starfox-Sackfox-Single-player-V1.0

thank you again for your feedback on mine!
as well i hope i helped you with my feedback
plz note me if you got updates to play!

~forces

EDIT:
i replayed it... and i saw the bombs and different attacks now!
that is much more fun now! ( i played with laser canons alone the first time XD - see that happens when there is no tutorial heh - i know you show them on the buttons informations on screen but people tend to don't read and ignore them x3)

-Significantly changed the TIE attack mode, and the way they approach
-asteroids now explode into smaller pieces instead of just exploding
-TIE shouldn't disappear anymore
-Shields/Hull damage now progresses faster (yellow is shield, orange is hull)
-Y-Wings are more proficient killing machines

I have some other changes in mind - but I still appreciate any feedback I can get.

There, got a chance to play.
This is the first time for me to see a 3d level like this so I think it's a pretty cool idea. But I think it'll improve if you can clean up the contents of your level a bit. The level for the most part felt fairly cluttered and so I ended up just spamming all of my attacks (which are all very cool and well constructed I think) where-ever and I lost a sense of objective. There were a lot of points spamming positive and negative off to the sides of the screen and I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting for what.
My advice would be to find a way to bring the rocks and the tie fighters and all that in a bit at a time, and then let the player go ok I'll shoot that next, kill those things and then you can give them the next thing to kill, keep going and then at the end swarm them with everything.
I hope this helps. you seem to be working fine mechanically, except perhaps that some tie fighters wandered to the edges, but I don't think that's a big deal.
I look forward to what this becomes next.

If you have some cycles, please give my level a go. F4F in the sig, thanks.

+ Graphics were pretty, for the most part
+ Definite Star Wars vibe
+ Spawning patterns were great
+ Nice variety of gameplay

- Random score notifications popping up everywhere kinda spoiled it in places - especially in the intro
- Static intro felt a bit redundant
- While the 3D effect was good, I think the asteroids/fighters needed to approach more slowly.
- It didn't really feel like you were moving. This could easily be fixed by spawning lots of tiny stars in a random pattern, and having them move toward the screen FASTER than the objects you're shooting at. You can see an example of this in my first Sackometry Wars level.

Hope that didn't sound too criticial, because it's pretty much spot-on. Just needs a few tweaks here and there

Tried your level and liked it: The look of the ship is perfect and the various powers are all nicely animated, especially the backup team. 3 Things however i noticed:

- The hud is on the top-left corner, which means that part of it is behind the LBP2 score screen and it's impossible to see it, You should consider moving it to the right side,
-The level keeps on decreasing the score even after you no longer control the ship: i finished the level with 20000 points and i saw the score go down to 17000 in front of me simply because the enemies were still spawning. This happened also on the level ending sreen, since i could see the scores on the left side. You should tweak your logic to stop the points as soon as your no longer in control of the ship,
- The level didn't feel very dynamic on the sides so some animation could help.
Nice work overall

+ Nice 3d effect
+ good star wars atmo, especially liked the design of the x-wings
+ different sections (asteroids, tie fighters...)
+ unique idea

- somehow lost track because of too much tie fighters spawning
- the sequence at the beginning could be more dynamic

i really liked it overall, keep up the fine work!

Hi Unskilled, and thanks for your F4F on my level, oh and sorry for the delay in returning the favour!

K, I played your level about a week ago, maybe a little more, and if i'm truthfull (which I normally am I had very little to add that hadn't already been mentioned, so didn't bother reviewing it. I'm SO glad that I played the earlier version, It made me appreciate all the more how much work you have put into your updates. WELL DONE!!!! OMG, what a difference! A few things that really need to be mentioned are how great the xwing now rolls, and the new hud and weapons. The eneimies are far more fun, and the asteroids are SOOOOOOOOOooooo much better. The tutorial is perfect, though a little long winded if you wish to replay. Maybe you could add something at the begining that would skip straight to the fight (You dont have to mention its there straight away, but would be nice for replay.

Crytisisms.....um, only one really......please PLEASE make the xwing lazers on one shot! Its NO fun just holding R1 to fire, we want BUTTON MASHING!!!!!!!!

GREAT level, and so good to see you listened and learnt from what others said. 9.5 out of 10!!!!

( If you would like to replay my level 'House of te flying diggers boss fight' I'd love to hear what you think of the updates!
