"Base"? Material
Archive: 4 posts
Right now I am working on 2 projects. One of these is a Pixel-Platformer with the graphical style of the gameboy (Grayscale). I have run into a problem though. The sprite is not visible unless there is a black background, as I am using Hologram material. This kind of thing just makes me wish we had a Base Material. I want something where you can tweak the texture, opacity and collision boundaries of a block of material. It would make things so much easier and would also widen the possibilities of visuals in levels as well as gameplay. | 2011-03-02 18:46:00 Author: Unknown User |
i have often thought it would be really cool to be able to change the bevel on a material aswell imagine a bit of metal that is round like the damask sponges :o or a bit of sponge with a bevel like chrome :o!!! although i can see that this could kill the game engine as for your idea i do agree that we should be able to tweak things like texture and opacity, but to me i cant see that the collision settings would be very important .. | 2011-03-02 19:54:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
I say tweakable collision boundaries because 1. People seemed to put the "walk through walls" glitch to good use. and 2. So that you can set things on the same layer overtop of each other (That would probably destroy the thermo). But yes, collision boundaries aren't extremely important. | 2011-03-02 22:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
I feel your pain 333. Holograms are a great new addition but the flaw is the color black. Not only do you need a really dark background to display your holos but if a holo has any black in it, it shows up as transparent. I keep running into the problem when I want to give my character sprites eyes. (try making a ninja, good luck) Anyways what I really wish is for a tool that lets you turn any material into a hologram. It would just be tweaking a piece of material to have the on/off feature, but it would allow for much clearer and much more opaque sprites. You could just use cardboard and stickers or whatever. As far as the current hologram situation, I have something that might help. I find that making a holo out of straight hologram material makes for a very poor quality image. What I've been doing is making it out of neon first, then taking a sticker picture of it (with black background, darkness etc), then applying that sticker to a piece of hologram. Change brightness to appropriate level, also if you set the animation speed to zero, it stops that annoying holo flickering glow effect. (you probably know that, just making sure) As to the collision stuff, you can just use tags and tag sensors to inhibit where the holo can go. | 2011-03-03 03:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
