Magic Tree House in LittleBigPlanet

Archive: 6 posts

If anyone is not familiar with this children's book series, here's a short description, provided by Wikipedia:

"The Magic Tree House series is an award winning series of children books written by American author Mary Pope Osborne.

In the first series, consisting of the first 28 books, Morgan le Fay sends Jack and Annie, two normal children from Frog Creek, Pennsylvania, on numerous adventures and missions with a magical tree house in order to help free Morgan from a spell, solve four ancient riddles to become Master Librarians, and save four ancient stories from being lost forever. After the twenty-eighth chapter book, Mary Pope Osborne started a second series called the Magic Tree House "Merlin Missions". In these missions, Jack and Annie have quests from the ancient wizard Merlin the Magician. These books are longer than the previous 28, and some take place in fantasy realms like Camelot."

So... I have planned to make levels based off the following books in the series. There may be more planned from me, but as of now, it is unknown.

1) Mummies in the Morning
2) Pirates Past Noon
3) Night of the Ninjas
4) Lions at Lunchtime

For the moment, I'm trying to decide what kind of outfit, based on the parts that people acquired in LBP1 to make a SackJack and a SackAnnie. (Obviously, Jack and Annie as Sackpeople)

Likewise, I am working on the first level to be used as a template for future "Magic Tree House" inspired levels. There are several challenges I'm facing as I make these levels.

For one thing, what do you guys think the SackJack and SackAnnie should dress? Remember that I am basing these levels off the books. Another question I have for you guys is, how can I transport the Sackpeople across to a certain area while giving the "tornado" effect as it shown in the books?

I know that I am taking on a lot here, and if you can give me feedback on how this project is flowing or anything like that, shoot me a reply and I'll do my best to answer.

Hopefully, for these series of levels... I hope you'll have fun playing them as much I have making them.

instead of using glasses for jack, use the fly glasses from on of the animal packs.

or does jack even wear glasses? its been so long since i have read those.

EDIT: oh, and for the tornado effect, try a dramatic cutscene. first the screen will be shakes with grey holograms (wind) will be flying all around, and it will show a silhouette of the tree house sort of getting warped. than the screen gets white, and the next thing you know, your in the past/future/whatever cant remember.

EDIEDIT: the reason for the fly glasses is because it sort of fits the littlebigplanet theme.

He does, actually. I was actually at the Magic Tree House website and he certainly sports a pair of glasses. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll certainly take that into consideration.2011-03-10 23:29:00

OK! Now, I just acquired LBP2, so... I might make use of the tools there, plus make levels based off more of the Magic Tree House books. So... whatever I see in the main plot of LBP2 (don't spoil me here!), I will definitely take into consideration.2011-03-24 13:01:00

I loved these books as a kid. Haven't read any of them for probably 9 years! Wow... time flies.

Oh yeah, LBP2. Sounds awesome and random at the same time!
