Explanation for the Cow Glitch!

Archive: 52 posts

+Rep Would Be Appreciated

All credit for this glitch goes to Cy-Force.

OK, so I heard about this "Cow Glitch" and I wanted to know how it worked. Basically, what it does is give properties of one material to another completely different material. E.G, wood will be able to float, sponge will be slippery etc.

Instead of figuring it out myself, I used common sense and asked the orginal creator, then asked for his permission to post it here. So here it is:

First off, start with a material like Pink Floaty. After you have placed it, just transform it into toxic gas. Then use the tool that transforms materials into other materials to turn the lethalised pink floaty to another material like wood.

After this, unlethalise it. The wood will now have the same properties as Pink Floaty! It can be grabbed it is extremely light and grabbable. It works for all materials

Here it is again, but easier to understand:

1. Place material.
2. Turn it into toxic gas.
3. Transform to different material.
4. Unlethalise

Hope this helped.

This will result in unfound new creative puzzles until it is fixed in a patch.

Sounds good to muck about with.

But I wouldn't rely on it for a level because if they patched a fix then the level would not work like it was ment to

Why do they patch stuff like this?

....It just makes the game better lol.

Lol, I agree, this is cool and I WILL be using it in a level soon. If it gets patched, and I doubt it would get patched soon seen how many more important things they need to worry about, then I will just have to fix my level in another manner, if the patch actually fixes already published levels with the glitch in use. I imagine a patch would simply stop the tools from messing things up, but might leave things already using the glitch intact!

So get to it sackboys and sackgirls, before they fix it up!

Lol, so the wood that you "made" in the explanation would be grabbable too, no?

I might make a piece of glass that floats xD

Is the original properties of the item kept, aswell as the secondary item's properites?

E.g. A slidy piece of dark matter that you can grab?

This is an interesting glitch.
I'm wondering if altering some of the material properties is possible, such as explosive-resistant dissolve material, or destructible metal that still makes metallic impact sounds?

Has anyone tried this?

If the dissolve material was explosive-resistant it would no longer have the properties of dissolve material.
This glitch would be great for traps.

Remember to credit Cy-Force for finding the glitch, I would feel guilty about posting it here if he never got any credit.

for me it was floating wood. I think this would make for a great space/anti gravity level. If done right though.

I dont understand the point of this.... all it really is doing is just changing the texture to something else but keeps the properties?
I mean dont get me wrong this glitch is neato, but i find it somewhat useless.

In all honesty once you play with it, then it all makes sense. Yes it changes textures, but its more the properties of materials. It just makes levels more fluid, because its not like you need to use dissolve material and stickers lets say.

yes i doubt this will be patched because its actually a good idea

i might make a tricky level with this.. i dont know people run on wood but it is really glass material and there sackboy slips and falls into some electricity :o

Exactly. They stumble upon it. Meaning that it was an accident. If you go to the Videos section you can find a video I posted with two glitches I discovered.

P.S. Everybody, I found another glitch that's pretty cool. I won't make another thread for it, as that didn't go to well last time because everybody is a skeptic. >_>

I've been tracking this but I'm really wondering if the ps3/game/thermometer will consider this new block with dual properties as two separate materails. Instead of using 5 materials would the game register 10 materials? We could seriously fill our levels up fast by using this trick too often.2008-11-26 05:32:00

Why did they give you negative rep? Was it because you didn't give any info for about a week?

You should either post it here or edit it into the first post of this thread if you think it will go wrong..... >_>

Well one interesting use of the bug would be to start out with dark matter, and turn it into your desired material -- that way you can have a hanging/static platform without having to attach it to anything.

Yes and it will make it look better as well. I use it all the time now for my dissolve material because this glitch disguises it

That's weird, I couldn't transmute dissolve material when I tried. I'll have to try some more. I really wanted dissolvable glass :-)

I don't see how useful this can be, considering the same can be accomplished via sticking a bit of dark matter in center of wood, while maintaining it's properties.

If you turn dark matter to wood texture, it stays slippery and is hard to run on =/

You're not doing the glitch right then

You can make things like dissolvable glass and floaty wood. You just used the material changer lol.

All the properties of the first material stay as they are. The new material simply becomes the skin of the old one.

So that means that the edges, grippability, friction, explosiveness, dissolve, float, weight, all those factors stay as they were for the material before the change.

It's also important to note that if you have stickers on the object before changing it, the stickers carry over. If you are using a custom material, like some of the unique sponges or metals, they will likely look horrible because of this. You should de-sticker the object first.

I think the point people will most overlook with this bug is that the weight of the original material stays the same. Let's say you are building a crane. If you make a heavy, long neck, unless your base is very wide, it will likely tip itself. But if you make the neck out of a much lighter material and then change it to a different one for cosmetic purposes, then it can look like one piece but be weight balanced better than just actually being one piece.

Finally, let me add that switches and mechanisms will stay attached in gas mode. So anything wierd attached to the material will stay on if you cow lick it.

My most successful thread, rep wise.
What Elbee pointed out about the weight, you should all take into consideration. Be sure to pick the right material.
