Hey guys! I recently got the LBP2 font and I was wondering; am I OK to share it here? It's this one (the text that says alexbull_uk): http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/391/img0280c.png I don't want to get into any trouble, so I just want clarification on if it's ok to upload this?

Actually I recently got the real font too and was told it was only given to people they wanted to have it, or when working on projects, and was told NOT to share it. I installed it and can use it in any program I want. What do you use to rip? Any internet browser. It's not difficult or anything. I just took a look at LBP.me's CSS and it tells you exactly where they store the font on the server.

Any internet browser. It's not difficult or anything. I just took a look at LBP.me's CSS and it tells you exactly where they store the font on the server. Through it only works browser that support CSS3 Fonts Module and specific font format. That CCS module is quite new and browsers just stared to support it, Filefox 4 for example not showing that font because its not supporting OpenFont or IE (who is always behind) don't support it at all. This is why you don't see custom fonts on diffrent websites in daily basis, so gz for Tom to have corrage to using it Ofcorse getting font file is possible on all browses EDIT: @Cronos Dage, oh i just noticed funny comments in source ^^ i never notice it since im using firebug to lurk the code of elements

@Shadowriver Firefox 4 doesn't show a link to the font file or it doesn't show a font? Everything works in Firefox 3.6.13. Edit:It doesn't show that font too

Just a reminder, all fonts are copyrighted/protected since designers and typograhers spend a lot of time developing them. Unless they are the really over the top rubbish free ones that you can find online on font websites. You would need a license/permission to use it and not to alter it in any way. As you would actually be destroying someone elses work or modifying it as yours. Ripping it from elsewhere and installing it is plain stealing. So yes you would need to either get permission or buy the font license. BUT I cant see Mm releasing the font to every LBP player, since it's part of their branding/image which they control.

In this context, it seems worthwhile pointing out this one: http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/larabie/pricedown/pricedown/ Made famous by a video game (mostly) and free, even for commercial use. A bit over the top, perhaps, but most certainly not rubbish. Rumour has it that R* bought it only to make it free for anyone to use. Not sure how much substance there is to that, but the fact of the matter is the font is free.

Yes true not all free font are rubbish as I put. BUT majority of free ones that are very blocky and over decorated that you can find are best suited for display such as titles, signs and headlines rather then large amounts of text due to legibility and readability problems of the font. I'm saying this since I'm coming from a graphic designer background. The font link you've given is part of the Typodermic Fonts' designed by Larabie Fonts and it's free for commercial use. It's also classed as a display font. Some extra info there for you. I didn't know R*, I've learnt something new today. Thanks.

There no other way to protect it if you use CSS3 Fonts, in this standard font is treated as normal images and defined and downloaded via url. There no other way to implement custom fonts, or else server-side image generation which is little power consuming. But thats not a problem, there lot of copyrighted images on internet yet no body complain to use them unprotected, so fonts will be the same @Shadowriver Firefox 4 doesn't show a link to the font file or it doesn't show a font? Edit:It doesn't show that font too Yea FF suppor that too, but ptobably not supporting that format, you know how mozilla devs got obsession in point of openness of formats Oh and FF is still not support many CSS3 stuff then webkit browsers (Chrome/Safari), they just complied CSS3 transitions and transformations in FF4, webkit had this long ago + have CCS3 Animations and CSS3 Masking which mozilla didn't even start to include to FF. those things will revolutionize layouts candy look ;]

There no other way to protect it if you use CSS3 Fonts, in this standard font is treated as normal images Actually on most @font-face generators theres options to make fonts not useable on computers, (I know, I'm using it on a WIP I'm making). forinstance on http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator there is the option of "WebOnly? Disable desktop use" tom disabled the first crikey squat font on the inital LBP2 launch page sooo lol...

Still can be used in other sites ;] and same as that font is made web-only and it's showable there as long as font file is downloadable might be way to reverse that.

Afaik there's not really anyway to stop other sites using it (so yeh) but the webonly thing isn't reversible but alot of stuff besides browsers can use it (PHP can use it in imagettftext when purporting a image so yeah..

I guess you could use a sprite sheet, with each letter as an individual sprite, but that's time consuming, and if whoever's taking your font is determined enough, they could fairly easily re-make it.
