Project Pokemon

Decided a while ago to start sketching Pokemon as both a good sketching exercise and out of nostalgia. The result is actually now I'm more confident in sketching something out of my head rather than copying something I see. That doesn't really become evident until Pidgeotto, but still. Admittedly even that has heavy inspiration. From the beginning! 1. Bulbasaur http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/1Bulbasaur.png 2. Those are some really sexy drawings. I approve http://cdn3.knowyourmeme.com/i/000/102/792/original/1298970553344.png?1298970823 | 2011-03-01 23:52:00 Author: Unknown User |
These are great. I was sad to see it stop at Pidgeotto though and not Pidgeot. You plan on doing any Poke requests anytime soon? | 2011-03-02 00:07:00 Author: KoingWolf Posts: 386 |
These are great. I was sad to see it stop at Pidgeotto though and not Pidgeot. You plan on doing any Poke requests anytime soon? Depends on what you mean. My goal is to eventually sketch the first 151 Pokemon anyway, though I'm happy to do certain poses for some of them. Could use the ideas anyway. I should be able to post Pidgeot later today. | 2011-03-02 00:42:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
Pokes, I love Pokes, so cute, so strong, so big, so small, can't wait to see the art to come out of this. =) | 2011-03-02 00:47:00 Author: Fang Posts: 578 |

So are you going to go in order for drawing Pokemon, or just whoever you want? So far the plan is to go in order yeah. | 2011-03-02 17:16:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
Keep up the good work! The shading is excellent. My favourites from Kanto are Dragonite and Mewtwo. Looks like I've got a bit of a wait! | 2011-03-02 22:32:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |

So it's been a while since my last post. My bad, lol. School needed to take major priority for a while there, but let's get this started up again: 19. Rattata http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/19Rattata-Copy.jpg Raticate will be posted soon. =) | 2011-04-08 23:30:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |

Haha these are all really good! I'm still at the stage where I have to use a reference to draw with accuracy. I have some pokemon drawings in my deviantart if you're interested in seeing them. They're not as good as yours are though :/ | 2011-04-09 02:47:00 Author: Laharl Posts: 152 |

Those are amazing! I love Bulbasaur the most! All the drawings have a lot of details and they look like the real ones in game. Awesome work dude! Keep them coming! | 2011-04-09 07:13:00 Author: yoda97yoda Posts: 121 |
Okays, here's some pictures I made. Be aware, they are sizeable. And old. Pretty old. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/Laharl111/A_nice_Meal_by_Great_Prince_Laharl.png http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/Laharl111/Good_Friends_Colored_by_Great_Prince_Laharlpng.jpg Edit: They WERE sizeable, but I guess spoilers took care of that | 2011-04-09 07:17:00 Author: Laharl Posts: 152 |
^ Ha ha, cute drawings. <3 @ Patronus21: Where are you referencing these pics from? Some poses I remember, but some I swear I have never seen before. (ex. bulbasaur) Or are they original poses? | 2011-04-09 08:57:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
They're all great. My favs are Charizard and Pidgeyotto. | 2011-04-09 12:04:00 Author: TehUberZac Posts: 587 |
Where are you referencing these pics from? Some poses I remember, but some I swear I have never seen before. (ex. bulbasaur) Or are they original poses? No I found some poses I liked from screenshots of the anime that happened to be on Google. Pidgeotto was my first original pose, but it still borrows heavily from a pose I found on deviantart. I sent the artist a note telling them I used their pose (mostly) but I'm not sure they even log in to their account anymore since months have gone by without a reply. Pidgeot is mostly from one of the poses in the cards, with a few tweaks. Rattata is my first really original pose (thus the decrease in quality, but I'm still happy with it). Raticate combines multiple image into one with my own personal touches to make it look like one image, and I'm currently applying the same strategy to Spearow. These sketches are teaching me a lot about drawing various types of animals, such as birds and four-legged animals in general, so I'm hoping in the future I can create high-quality poses that are 100% original. | 2011-04-09 17:39:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
21. Spearow (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/21Spearow.jpg) Happy with this one. Getting real tired of drawing birds though, lol. Anyone have any posing ideas or preferences for Fearow? Having a hard deciding how to draw it. Thinking I might do a similar pose to Pidgeot, but I'm not sure. | 2011-04-17 05:29:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
Sorry it's been a while since I updated this. Fearow was extremely aggravating to sketch because I was completely uninspired and I was sketching it more out of obligation because it was the next in line. This lead to a decrease in quality that I'm not happy with, so from now on I'll skip Pokemon that I don't feel any inspiration for. However if anyone here has any ideas for Pokemon I skip feel free to let me know, it might be just what I need. And now, here and my new sketches: 22. Fearow (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/22Fearow.jpg) 23. Ekans (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/23Ekans.jpg) 24. Arbok (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/24Arbok.jpg) And finally, the one I've been waiting to do for quite some time: 25. Pikachu (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/25Pikachu.jpg) I'm really happy with the way Pikachu turned out, and I might end up doing a second one just because I have another idea for it. Hope you guys like it! =) | 2011-06-19 07:02:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
Pikachu = epic. | 2011-06-19 12:42:00 Author: TehUberZac Posts: 587 |
Good job. I think its a bugger to get pencil to scan well. You shade really well and you vary the line darkness and thickness. Groovy! When I draw characters without references I always end up with really questionable poses. Its tough work. http://www.deviantart.com/download/188216363/sonic___maybe_playing_kinect_by_hakumai-d3424ob.jpg | 2011-06-28 04:49:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
Thanks! I know there are like a dozen different kinds of pencil you're supposed to use, but I use just my plain ol' mechanical pencil. I haven't been very active on the forum lately, but nevertheless here are the new pics: REALLY happy with this! 26. Raichu (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/26Raichu.png) Tribute to one of the greatest games ever made: Pokemon Snap! 27. Sandshrew (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/27Sandshrew.png) 28. Sandslash (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/28Sandslash.png) With this one I've started a new shading technique that I'm rather happy with, which really just consists of me shading in some of it, then using my fingers to smear it across where I need it on the rest of the image. What do you think? 29. Nidoran (F) (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/29NidoranF.png) | 2011-07-05 01:42:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
You managed to get the finger smearing under control. I had to give up on it because I couldn't. It can get kinda messy. There are inexpensive things made for doing that. Just look for a suspicious looking bag full of rolled up white cardboard (in an art store of course.) They can shade smaller areas than your finger. But still pick up loose graphite and make areas randlomly darker like your finger can. Only not as bad because skin oil can create total chaos. | 2011-07-05 03:07:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
I'll have to look into that, that would be awesome. Though I am getting rather dexterous with my pinkie, lol. | 2011-07-05 03:11:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
Be careful hobby stores are almost as evil as Wal-mart about trying to steal all your money. And I find that the packaging for ink pens are confusing and want you to think they can do everything. | 2011-07-05 03:40:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
Those Pikachu and Raichu sketches are epic | 2011-07-05 05:24:00 Author: AdenRalumdan Posts: 296 |
30. Nidorina (http://i1041.photobucket.com/albums/b416/Bobby_Stiles/Project%20Pokemon/30Nidorina.png) Continuing with the shading style inspired by the cards that those poses for Nidorina and Nidoran (F) came from. Really like it so I think I'm going to stick to it. | 2011-07-16 20:33:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |
