Sackro Machines V3 *NEW Screenshots*!

Inspired by the old micro machines gaming gems and a number of REALLY good lbp2 racers; I am currently working on a large project I call "Sackro Machines V3". It is a top down racer that has one main goal ... to be fun to play. It is nowhere near finished but I thought I'd post about it to get a few opinions here and there. The idea is that there will be a hub system and five tracks to choose from. Each track would be of a different theme and not only have a unique NPC sack person but also a different type of car per track. Here are the themes I have at the moment:- 1- Snowy Street 2- Garden 3- Beach 4- Bakery 5- Either tree tops or a tool shed, i haven't decided. The tracks would be linked to the hub via level links and the tracks would link back to the hub the same way. This is my largest project yet and there are a few things I do not yet know; if you think you can help then here's the link to the help forum I started. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51573-Top-Down-Racer-questions&p=793123 | 2011-03-01 22:41:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
I assume you've played "Sackro Machines Championship" by Splapp-me-do (an MM Pick)? Sounds like you want to do something similar; I thought that one was done really well and extremely polished. How will you make yours stand out? You absolutely must have the crab hammer power-up and the repulser field! Also the tanks were fun in Micro Machines...V3 was the best version! | 2011-03-01 22:54:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Power ups are a great idea! I think I could have jam slicks for the bakery and rockets for the tool shed. The other tracks I'll think about. I plan to make this level stand out with interesting NPC's, the power-up's, interesting cars and a number of short cuts. I might make my own music ... but I'm not very good at the music sequencer yet. But before anything I have to figure out how to make the race end after three laps and then send the players to a room with a level link to the hub. This won't be out fr a while but I may post screen shots every now and then ... but how do you get a picture from the PS3 onto the computer? | 2011-03-02 10:52:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
but how do you get a picture from the PS3 onto the computer? Take a photo of whatever it is you want in LBP2, then go into your Popit and find the photo you just took. Press square when you've highlighted it, and there should be an option to "Export To HDD". Select that and as you can tell, the photo will be exported onto your PS3 HDD. Then just exit the game, find the photo(s) you just exported (I think they're in the Photo section of the XMB) and then if you have a USB stick you can plug that into your PS3, copy the photos to that, then plug it into your PC and voila. | 2011-03-02 11:40:00 Author: Moonface Posts: 310 |

Although if you don't want everyone to see what you're making until a later date (in the case you're keeping the level secret and showing the photos to a select group of people) then it's better not to upload photos to lbp.me | 2011-03-02 11:50:00 Author: Moonface Posts: 310 |
Thank you; that clears things up a bit. Once I've got some design done I'll take a few pictures. One real problem remains ... making the race end after three laps; that is very important. Does anyone have any idea how to do it because I'm under the impression that a one lap race wouldn't be very exciting. And a countdown would be good too; after that I'll be able to make speedy progress. Also does anyone know how to get the level to beta testers once I have some? Do you just send the level to their moon or something? | 2011-03-02 12:44:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |

Do you just send the level to their moon or something? I don't know, I'm no expert. But... You need to make a couple checkpoints. Make em wide enough so you can drive off the track a bit. When you drive over the finishing line, it checks if every checkpoint has been passed. If so, add 1 to the lap counter. Once 3 is reached, give points to winner, dump them to the scoreboard/winning ceremony. | 2011-03-02 13:31:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
That makes sense ... but what type of logic type would I use for the checkpoints? I've tried toggle switches but the problem is that on the second lap they would be set back to off again so the race would go on forever. Any ideas? Also how would I make each checkpoint unique to one player so each racer wouldn't activate each other's checkpints? I'm guessing something like tags but I'm not completely sure. | 2011-03-02 13:45:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
Put the logic on the player. The checkpoints? it could be a tag. And it goes like this All toggles on? -> Add 1 to lap count -> Reset toggles -> repeat So everything is placed on the player object, this way you never have to put complex logic strewn across the level. | 2011-03-02 13:57:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Got it. just two things I need clarification on before I completely understand. 1) When I put the logic on the player would I put it in a microchip on the car or on the controlinator chip? 2) How do you reset the toggle switches? Is there a specific logic piece that can do it? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm a bit of a littlebignewbie. Also I was wondering ... how do you make ramps in a top down race? | 2011-03-02 14:09:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
I've been working on the first track of Sackro Machines V3 and it is coming along nicely. It's called Sleet Street and is an easy track to start you all off with ... but the tracks do get harder. I give you some screen shots! | 2011-03-03 20:10:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
I am pleased to announce that the first track, Sleet Street, has been 100% finished. Four tracks to go and now that I have the logic systems done progress on the other four tracks will be faster than the first. I've began work on the second track; it is garden themed and is called Garden Siege because of all the toy tanks and the "mild disagreement" between the green soliders and the red soldiers ... and you'll be racing between it all! Here are a few screen shots of Sleet Street; any ideas for improvment would be nice as I'm hoping to make this level a very good one. Here are the screen shots; what do you all think? | 2011-03-08 19:42:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
Its been a while since I've posted in this thread but Sackro Machines V3 is still on the way. I've made a LOT of progress and five of the tracks are done. I am going to have more than the original five tracks; the bakery has been scrapped but some new tracks are replacing it. Here are the tracks I am planning. 1) Snowy road- COMPLETE 2) Garden- COMPLETE 3) Snooker Table- COMPLETE 4) Sandbox- COMPLETE 5) Bathtub- COMPLETE 6) Toolshed- TO DO 7) Breakfast Table- TO DO 8) Classroom- TO DO 9) Science Lab- TO DO Each track will have a unique car and NPC as previously mentioned; the cars (and boat) have different speeds and handling but hopefully they'll be relativley easy to drive. I'm going to need some Beta Testers once PSN is back online; is anybody interested? Just leave me your PSN ID and I'll send you the tracks ... though how is that done? Here are a few screen shots for you all. Thoughts? 34043 34042 34044 34045 34046 34047 | 2011-05-15 20:58:00 Author: CragmiteBlaster Posts: 49 |
