Creating objects like this...

So I just played castle flowers http://lbp.me/v/xv9gj8 (which is a really wonderful level by the way) and there is this really wonderfully cute cat. You can see it on the picture on the left. And i wonderd how this guy or girl made it. Ecspecially the head and ears part . It looks like he uses more then the usual layers (I mean like a normal layer and a thin layer). Like if there is a posiblity to make materials that are like half a layer stong or even a quarter...I don't know how to describe it properly, is this maybe because of a glitch or am I just too stupid to see how this could be made with normal means... but the way the paw is shaped... | 2011-03-01 14:45:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oh duh, I just looked at the pic. It is the V-Day cat. http://ts1.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=408434644444&id=257038daa42bf56427f53ad2adea673e I haven't played that, but I assume he used thin-thick layers, or theck as they call them now. Theck is a glitch layer (totally safe to use) that's the same thickness as a checkpoint. sackboy can walk past it, thin layers can go behind and in front of it, but it collides with thick layers. a good way to make shapes using it post-construction, is to taker something you've already made, as a thick layer, and embed it into a theck piece. then take the theck piece and embed that into another theck piece of a different material. now your thick tree is a theck tree. http://lbp.me/v/vdxyy Glitch: Thin Thick Layers by TraderSam Here is the original level that distributed the thin-thick layers. Been having fun with that original set since he published (even if it was just to make a door handle), and it's the same set that lead to candyk's "starcruiser" masterpiece shortly after. You can get them in basic cardboard in every shape (so you won't have to cut just get a circle at least), they have no problems working in LBP2 (if any do), and it's pretty easy to recognize them at a glance in you're popit as the cardboard shapes that are all grouped together. very handy, even if they're categorized into special items as a sub folder. There's probably an FAQ on how to use and recreate them in the forums here somewhere. | 2011-03-01 15:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'm not certain but there's a mesh object cat in the Valentine's DLC that looks a heck of a lot like this. | 2011-03-01 16:03:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Oh OK! Well at least I can stop wondering how it was made... | 2011-03-01 17:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
I haven't played the level. I reckon if you send a PSN message telling them you enjoyed the level, and ask them how they did certain things, they would probably tell you. If not, i bet someone here could give a good approximation, but it may not be exact. | 2011-03-01 17:15:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
Yeah, it's just the object. Never knew it was a v-day item though..? I thought there were only stickers/decorations in that.. EDIT: Oh yeah, I remember the materials now. Obviously I don't use that pack too much. | 2011-03-01 17:33:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Regardless that this is a premade DLC object, you can achieve a whole lot of this yourself by making use of spongy materials (most tend to look quite round around the edges), decorations and gradient/translucent stickering. In the end, it is the accurate suggestion of a cat that counts, not the photorealistic sculpture of one; it is eye-catching details like a very cute face, claws, a furry look or a purring sound that is most valuable and will leave a lasting impression. If certain parts of your cat are tough to make, look for things to mask them with; why not put the cat in a basket, have some balls of wool lying in front of him, or only his head visible sticking from behind a corner. | 2011-03-02 16:20:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
