Comic Relief Race

Archive: 20 posts

Hi all!

I've made a short race level as part of a fund raising drive for Comic Relief which we will be holding in our office on the 18th, however i'd like some feedback on the difficulty of it as a lot of people who will be playing probably haven't played LBP before (shame on them!). Let me know if you do and i'll gladly offer feedback on any of your levels.

Included a few screenshots below (if it works).

Many thanks

If there's anything I love, it's feeling like I'm contributing to a charity without actually parting with any money.

On that note I've queued this for play ASAP.

great race/ plat former, my only feedback is that you may wanna extend the limit on the race time its a bit too short for the player who may die a few times or 3-4 players.2011-03-01 23:19:00

Yeah perhaps 2 minutes is a bit much to ask new players to finish that! I'll up it a bit Thanks for the feedback!2011-03-01 23:27:00

Firstly, top of the leaderboard! (:

Next-ly: I really liked this level, it wasn't anything new or complicated but it wasn't trying to be. The little jokes were genuinely funny and everything runs really smoothly. For some reason it just encompasses everything I love about LBP, how? I don't know, I just got that feeling I had a lot of fun playing this level so thanks for making it.

Argh you people keep getting high scores and I don't know how! Must be some secret only the creator knows about!

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you liked it I intend to make a second part to the level up the tunnel with the boards over it near the start, just to give some replayability!

I had a fun time playing this. I actually like the length. I also don't know why I can't keep from laughing every time someone uses the fart effect. I should be too old for that by now. The only thing I could see tweaking is the bounce pad that slams you into the ceiling. It could be tweaked lower to set you nicely on the next level.

I was also nice enough to stay below your score, but the secret is to keep your score bubble runs going for big multipliers. Less bubbles with more in a row is much better than all of the score bubbles a few at a time.

Feedback

Rated: Neutral

Positives:
+Race was pretty fun
+Score bubbles well placed

Negatives:
-fart noises dont really suit me that well, just think it kills the level sometimes.
-Obstacles were little too simple, felt just like another lbp1 level
-The area with the layers of fire that you jump on then it turns solid? it would kill me a few times I don't kno if its suppose to or not.

Keep up the work though still was fun.

Hey, just finished it up...

I like it overall, I would get rid of the magic mouths (make invisible in play mode).
I agree with others that it was very LBP1ish, but I think in a good way, it was fun, quick, not too difficult, and had some excellent qualities.

Now for my review of your snake level (you don't have a thread, so I am putting it here)
Liked it, and loved the concept, seemed like it could use a lot of work...
1: Needs some more color.
2: I think the snake needs to have its friction tweaked all the way down, sadly I was never able to finish the level because I kept getting stuck. Also at times when I hit the wall it slowed me down which broke the illusion I was riding a sleek snake through a garden.
3: It seemed a little foggy, A level like that begs to be crisp and clear (IMHO)
4: This is partially due to the fogginess, but the path was not always easy to see... If you take my first suggestion and add some color, maybe it could be in the form of the correct path to take.
5: I can pop in play mode which breaks the level as the snake never re-spawns. You should disable the popit or make it so the snake re-spawns if they somehow end up at the beginning of the level.

Overall, it seems like a great level It made me want to see the whole thing, but after 4 plays and getting stuck in 4 different places, I had to stop for a bit or I would get too frustrated.

Thanks Sabre_ and sbcroix for the feedback. I agree it is a very basic level but it is supposed to be for people who have never played this game before so I didn't want to make it too complicated! I do intend to make a secondary part to the level which has some more complicated platforming elements in but it's still a work in progress

As for the fart noises, well, shows my maturity level I guess! The bit with the fire layers i will fix, need to extend the range of the player sensor slightly, the semicircle doesnt quite extend far enough at the edges!

sbcroix, thanks for the feedback on that snake level! I'll reduce the friction on the snake so it should make it easier and adjust the lighting settings to make it clearer to see where to go. I don't know how far you got but if you get to the 4th area the lighting brightens up anyway, i wanted the first sections to feel a bit darker and more random i guess. As for the path, hopefully if the friction is reduced it should make it easier to navigate around, there is only one route to go at the moment! I'll disable the popit too, you're not supposed to die in the level

Edit: Comic Relief race level has been updated with new materials to add a bit more colour. The disintegrating fire drop now shouldn't kill you (but the farting remains at the start). The Snake level has been updated with reduced friction, some movie camera pointers incase you're not sure where to go and modified lighting and materials which should make it easier to see the route.

Hi, as promised, here is some feedback.

Overall a fun level.

A few things that may help.

- Sequencer at start can be played more than once. Walk left then back to start to reproduce.
- A lot of the obstacles are made of rectangular blocks. maybe make them into more organic/amusing shapes to suit the whole frivolity of comic relief?
- maybe cut the fart noises down and replace with some of the other comedy sounds (tubey thonk?)
- As it's comic relief maybe make people laugh more by adding more tricks - liked the fake scoreboard and would love to see more things that play with your head during the race.

Ignore me if you like!

I guess maybe I don't have to us the fart noise for everything, I did try using mixtures of other effects initially but then settled on the fart. Perhaps it's time to bow to the majority of the feedback here and change it again!

I'm a sucker for rectangles, what can I say! I'll have a look through and see what I can modify.

As for tricks, I'll put more in the harder course. I want to keep this one fairly straight forward else people will have no idea what they're doing!

Cheers for the feedback!
