Anyone willing to help me create top down jump logic?

Archive: 12 posts

Hello,
i followed this tutorial to exact specs. Doesn't work for me

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=47028-How-to-make-semi-advanced-top-down-bumper-car-logic

MY problem is, i need the player to be able to jump up 1 layer at a time all the way to the front. It's a top down level with ledges that player can jump on at different tiers. Well, since this tutorial has a timer that resets when players hits bottom level only, I can't jump higher than middle level. (it always forces you down layer, which is great, but i can't jump up from middle layer.) I need the player to always FALL down layers when applicable, but also be able to jump back up to the FRONT layer

PLEASE HELP
if anyone is willing to send me a PSN Message and create with me to help with this, please contact me online

Quite simple really...

Just hook (say X) to a Counter set to 1. That counter leads into a timer set to around 0.3 seconds and into a Mover that pushes Out once. The timer then leads into a Mover that pushs in to the 3rd layer (back) and the reset of itself and the counter.
Now when you jump, you'll move up a layer, If you jump from the ground, you'll land on the ground. If you jump from a 1st layer ledge toward the ground, you'll land on the ground. But if you jump from a 2nd layer ledge to a 3rd layer ledge, you'll only go so far down, because its in the way

ok, i am going to try that but ....

i didn't know you can reset a mover?
Also, how will this make the player fall all the way to bottom layer when applicable off ledges?

ok tommy,
I tried this and had the exact same problem. Player is always on middle layer. I then have a section where they are to jump from platform to platform and they DONT want to fall to the ground floor = Death. So, how do i always have it pushing down to bottom floor, AND be able to jump. Your logic worked, i was able to jump from ground, to middle, to top then back to middle. But......He floats at middle layer when i go off edge, i need him to fall.

Please help

Place inverted NOT gate that outputs to its own input inside microchip and connect it to mover that moves back.
Then just activate the microchip when player is not jumping

This sounds intuitive, could you give me a more detailed description? i am kind of amateur at creating,

Like how do i ACTIVATE the microchip when player isn't jumping?

Ok i got this logic to work THANK YOU!!! but, now i have ANOTHER problem. No matter how it's done, if the player HOLDS -X- he can just float (cheat) across platforms.

I have a sequencer set to 0.5 sec. per stripe; have two stripes; on the first half of the first stripe, set an in/out mover that moves out a layer; on the first half of the second stripe, set an in/out mover that moves in a layer; set both in/out movers to don't allow pushing; and on the second half of the second bar, put a battery wired up to the reset input of the sequencer. Make sure the sequencer is set to "Start playing forward". Attach the X button to the start playing forward input of the selector. Hope that helps! 2011-03-04 15:59:00

Hey Everyone, Update:
I have tried every suggestion and every thing i know enough about. This still isn't working. here is the logic i need

TOP DOWN LOGIC NEEDED FOR JUMPING:
1. Player has to always fall to back layer when applicable (forced)
2. Player has to be able to jump from bottom, to middle then to front 1 layer at a time.
3. Player can't just hold X to float once he jumps, which defeats the purpose of the platforms to jump to (player doesn't want to fall to the bottom, that's hazzard)

There is plenty of levels that have logic that works for this, i can't get it working at all.
This MM pick level is the best example - http://lbp.me/v/w3b2ew -

The rat can jump all three layers, can't hold x to float and ALWAYS falls to bottom

Please help me with this issue if you have any way of creating with me, or being very descriptive. Send me a msg on PSN or here

THANKS!

Are you online right now? I have created the logic you describe in my own top down level. I can't really describe how it works, but I will let you stick the logic in a microchip. No cheaty-ness, no floating.2011-03-05 17:34:00
