These will be short. (And riddled with bad grammar...) But I will try to play as much as possible. I don't have any levels, so this is essentially free, I guess. | 2011-02-28 17:59:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Yo, it would be cool if you could check out my level. http://lbp.me/v/x3jd49 | 2011-02-28 22:30:00 Author: Scholarship Posts: 105 |
Oh man this level was pretty darn big! It has a few hazards and alot of sackbots acting. Nice arrow pun btw So like I said, huge. Like, 10-15 minutes huge. Usually that means a level is bad, but this is an exception. There's lots of sackbots enemies, acted out and everything. Very nice. Since this level is so big, there's several different areas, from evil temples to a small town. The level uses the paintinator powerup. Usually somewhat cheap, but in this level it's pretty allright. However, the weaker side of this level is the cinematics. I was often unsure when I should and shouldn't skip text and it was really easy to mess up the cinematics/text bubbles if I started running when I shouldn't have. Aesthetically, the level is fairly bare. Use stickers and decos to spice it up a bit. Of course, thermo issues are thermo issues. I think using some of MMs premade objects cheapens the level a little bit. Personally it's not that big of a deal to me since you customized them a bit, but to some people doing that is really bad. Oh and finally, the BG glitch, you mention this yourself too, but that's more MMs problem than yours... It was enjoyable, and you show some promising skills. Just brush up on cinematics and making your level pretty and you'd be making really good levels. Yay'd and out of 10, I give this a solid 7. | 2011-02-28 23:59:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Lol, a short review? I can tell you right now, that was much longer than I expected, haha. Anyway, I really want to thank you for this. Something I should probably be telling people is that this was originally designed in LBP1, so if some of the cinematics seem awkward or not well-coordinated, it's because those movie cameras previously had magic mouths playing their part, lol. As for decorations... Yeah, I really need help on figuring out how to handle those. I know what a level with great aesthetics and a level with horrible aesthetics looks like, but mentally designing them myself is my biggest hurdle in level design. Regardless, I really appreciate that you took the time to do this. Oh yeah, and at the beginning, the magic mouths for that sackbot are hooked up to player sensors, all of which are placed on the ground you're running on. So if there was anything you missed there, you could have just walked backwards. I can't put that on you, though, since nothing in the level told you that. | 2011-03-01 00:59:00 Author: Scholarship Posts: 105 |
It's cool man. Did you get my PM? Also I'm still open for whoever wants or needs their level reviewed. | 2011-03-01 01:22:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Yeah, I got the pm. I also didn't think you'd record the level. xD | 2011-03-01 04:11:00 Author: Scholarship Posts: 105 |

I do not have LBP1 on me, so there will only be LBP2 reviews. I'm sorry I did not specify. But I will do the first one and the connect 4 one after lunch. | 2011-03-01 07:55:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
G'day mate, If you could take a look and review my levels "Football Kick" (http://lbp.me/v/wy-ygr) and "Zombie Horde: Single Player Beta" (http://lbp.me/v/xr7pth) that'd be brilliant. Thanks mate; it's much appreciated. | 2011-03-01 07:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hi ! Please review my last level: http://lbp.me/v/xq--dx . It's a top down rally racer with several features. Please try to adjust to the handling of the cars before making a full judgement. | 2011-03-01 09:25:00 Author: Vergil Posts: 155 |
I keep getting huge levels oh my. Not that I mind! LITTLE BIG PYRAMID: TEMPLE OF TUTANKHAMUN Okay so I wasn't expecting a level quite this big, but this level took me about 30 minutes to complete! Geez! Partially because I'm bad at doing precision jumps he he. But for a pro player it'd still take like 20 minutes to complete. You start off at the top level of the pyramid, and descend into the depths, bit of a metroid feel going on considering you revisit a few locations and hazards. The level got a bit of puzzlyness, some action platforming and the need for keen eyes. You're guided along with magic mouths voicing your sackboy, providing very useful hints. But you should keep your wits about, anything that stands out is probably important. There is use of the paintinator to destroy some well crafted enemies. You off them with ease as long you have steady aim, but they're not disappointingly easy. Most of the puzzles are fairly basic, somewhat close to timesinks, but a few are real curveballs you didn't see coming, and once you get them you go "ohh. Of course!". Overall the level is pretty bare, but there's a few nice decorations. I'd say this is for the better, since it makes the things important to the puzzles stand out much better. Also the use of materials is very good. Never really saw something and thought "well that looks wayyy out of place". Cohesive and nice. While I did not encounter any level breaking bugs, I encountered atleast one sequence breaking bug that let me skip ahead a little bit. There was also some things I thought had significance but in the end did not, which was a bit disappointing to be honest. One thing I must note here was the author included a system that let you skip levels. It's a great feature for a level this big. Due to the timesinky nature of some of the puzzles, I have to lower the score a bit. Looking at the level as a whole, and the fact that it is a freaking LBP1 level that's this huge and varied however ups the score whole lot. Yay'd and I give 7.5 out of 10. Some advice: Make the first room way easier, so players don't go for the emergency sponge at first. Spoilers: It did quite bother me that the scorpions meant nothing. But maybe I missed something? Maybe it's relevant in part 2? The mummy chase was pretty cool, the usage of several layers was a nice addition. The diamond stickers at the end, while they really could've been replaced with a player sensor, it provided some nice flavor. Edit: You said it was too dark? Wasn't that bad to me tbh. BEST CREATED CONNECT FOUR (2P ONLY) THIS IS THE BEST CONNECT FOUR I'VE EVER PLAYED!! Also the only one. But uhhh... it's nicely decorated. I also took a peek at the logic. Hahaha oh man that is a work of art. I can't wait to see what sort of crazy stuff you'll be able to cook up once you get LBP2. Yay'd and I rate it 9/10. Why not 10/10? Because nothing is perfect. Also I have no friends so I can't play it with people. ;_; ------ Football Kick Allright so first I was like, meh, this looks pretty not special. How are you supposed to kick anyway? Then when I played a bit, I started to realize that timing actually mattered. That's when it became a rather nice minigame. Maybe you should make sure players get that timing matters. Very clean visuals, nothing in excess, nothing missing. Cute sackbot audience is nice. Sounds and everything blends well. 8 out of 10 because i have no idea how to make this better. Oh and Yay'd. Of course. Zombie Horde: Single Player Beta Okay this would be a cool level I guess. if it wasn't for that freaking blinking light!! Seriously!! It's kind of an eyesore. The healthbars are pretty okay and the zombie horde mechanic is fine in itself. It's just that the blinking light is wayyy too harsh. Disregarding that I guess it does what it says on the tin, but I gotta rate it 6/10 for now. Advice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVYY0z4HSq8 check this video out, it's a real sweet tutorial on how to make a creepy looking light effect. Of course, you seem 0kay with logic, so i bet you could put a nice spin on it. ------ Sackboy Rally Racing Championship Well it's a top down racer! While I could not find a way to adjust the handling, I found the powersliding to be well done. What wasn't good however was the feel of the cars, they felt like they were glued to the road. In sand you tend to slide around a bit. The jumping and boosting worked flawlessly. Aesthetically, the level looks like a rocky desert, which is a decent racing area. There's shortcuts which are a little bit riskier than the ordinary road, but rewards you if you choose to take them. The cars you drive are well made too! I really liked the one with four front lights. Anyway, my advice is to somehow make the racing less rigid, it'd give people incentive to really drift in the curves. With friends, it'd probably be a pretty mean game of racing. I give it 7 out of 10 and a Yay. | 2011-03-01 14:26:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Haihaihai... Could you do a short review of my level please? LBP.me link (http://lbp.me/v/y-k0z0) Would be interesting to see what you think of it (: | 2011-03-01 19:12:00 Author: JonnysToyRobot Posts: 324 |
Thank you for having a look at my levels. Personally, I don't find the blinking light annoying - maybe it's just me. | 2011-03-01 20:02:00 Author: Unknown User |
A Run in Autumn (1P) This level is a tad bit different from most levels, you automatically move forward, with only the jump button working. It is fairly challenging. Now this is a level that has a very unique look. The silhouette of a lone sackgirl running through an autumn forest at dusk is a very striking image. The ground is built with cubes that light up in her proximity, making it easy to tell where you are. Now I don't know if you have played knytt or knytt stories, but this level really captures that feel of a familiar, yet magical place with just some subtle effects. The music used in the level is just perfect for it too. One thing that bothered me was that sometimes I'd really screw up the velocity you're moving at, but it was a minor issue. The gameplay is straightforward, it is very nice looking and it's also challenging. I rate it 8 out of 10. Yay'd, reviewed (ingame) and hearted. Thank you for having a look at my levels. Personally, I don't find the blinking light annoying - maybe it's just me. Well, I'm not some sort of authority, what I like/dislike might be different from you. I might have been a little harsh there, I mean your creations are alot better than many firsts I see around! | 2011-03-01 20:10:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
Thank you very much ll_ye, I didn't except any great video . I agree with your reviews, I think 7.5 for my 1st pyramid is fair enaugh. I know the level still need some work but thanks for appreciate my hard work . My pyramid(s) are better when you play them in LBP1 because people can think then "how he fit that long level in small thermo", when people play them in LBP2 they probably think "why he didn't split that level by using links so he could make graphic much better". Two "nearly" the same games LBP1 and LBP2 but they change thinking about levels, some levels made in LBP1 which were very hard to create look very simple in LBP2 (for example some shoters). I am glad you like my levels, my connect four makes little different when you play with someone because then you can see how good this level work. Of course you can play not fair little bit, I mean you can run out from the gas or you can take off red/blue stickers from circles but outside that everything work perfect. You can't put 2nd circle before other player will put his one. I know also that connect four can be made much easier in LBP2. I started create levels in LBP1 too late and I didn't start create levels in LBP2 yet . Thanks for your time. | 2011-03-01 20:18:00 Author: GILUPL Posts: 102 |
Thanks for the review (: I've never played Knytt, at least I thought I hadn't but the screenshots that came up when I typed it into google are vagueing familiar. I shall go and check it out. I'm glad you enjoyed the level. | 2011-03-01 20:48:00 Author: JonnysToyRobot Posts: 324 |
If you're game, I'd love your feedback on my prius contest level. It's kind of large, like 7 chapters large and 30-45 minutes. But I promise you it's quality throughout (breaks your long level rule). http://lbp.me/v/y-9th2 I seem to be in the same boat as so many other people trying to get any plays on this. I'd be sad to have all my work wasted I wonder if the "cutscene" icon is keeping people from clicking on it. I had to do it that way, otherwise the intro can't be skipped. Any thoughts? It's very cool that you do this. | 2011-03-01 23:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
I had a rule about long levels? But yeah whatever, review time. Okay so another huge level. Several levels infact, but there's only one scoreboard. Nearly every single line of dialogue in this level series is voiced. Part 1, Movie. Well it's a pretty nice introduction movie. Gives the player an incentive to do things. Nice material use, putting a cape on the prius object is 0k. Voice acting is included and its as good as it gets with recorded voice. Note: Sometimes the sackbots don't manage to throw away every villager but it's a minor issue. Part 2: Swimming Nicely crafted docks area at the start. You then get a lengthy cutscene showing the route you should take, it's about a minute long and it's unskippable! I advice the author to somehow cut it shorter or speedier, most players really don't like being stuck in a cutscene where nothing happens for that long! Then there's the actual swimming, which isn't actually all that stellar since the only real danger stems from fire obstacles that toggle on and off. Consider adding in some variation, with a few electric hazards or crushing hazards (oil pumps, black smoke for "oil"). Without this variation, it seems to take almost forever to collect ninja fishes and bring them back to the shark. This is the weakest part of the entire level series. No one wants to spend almost 10 minutes swimming in lbp. I know you offered an option out of this, but still, consider my advice. Part 3: Oil Field Easily the most enjoyable and fun part of the levels. The level that starts out with you racing across beam pumps, The pumps are really well made, with crank and everything. After that you are granted the grappler so that you may jump over oil spouting towers, grabbing ahold of flying bugs. After that you come across a series of smaller oil pumps, that create horrible gas in intervals, and a few non-sackbot enemies. This part is pretty okay. After a short jump pad section you find yourself high up on the power lines, dodging electricity as it moves across the powerlines. It's all sparsely detailed up there, and the shapes of the blocks seem fresh off the grid. A sticker or two warning the player about high power or something would lift the levels. You don't have to go all out thermodestroying with the decos and stickers, but a few signs or features here and there usually does it. Part 4: Leaf gun hat and flying car. Well this level is just one long pointsfest with little or no challenge. I know it's somewhat of an Encore level, but atleast make it a challenge to score high. Of course, with multiple players this would not be a problem at all, but put in a little chase, some incentive to deal with the oilies. Because without a reason (other than easy points) the level kinda drags on. I mean this level is just right when it comes to aesthetics, music choice and voice acting. So all it needs is some kind of challenge to get really interesting. Summary: Level has potential, alot of it. But it has several problems pertaining to it taking too long to do some things, and the difficulity dipping into near none levels at the end. It's like the level is 98% there man. And sorry about being a bit harsh. Right now it's a 6.5 out of 10. Gave it a yay to help out. Edit: From what I understand the level is for some kind of contest, so I went in being extra nitpicky and stuff. | 2011-03-03 21:21:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |

I had a rule about long levels? But yeah whatever, review time. .... Right now it's a 6.5 out of 10. Gave it a yay to help out. ll_ye, that was a most excellent review. No need to sugar coat any of the problems - I want to make these levels as good and as fun as possible. I've already started working on a prototype to make the last couple of levels more challenging and have some sense of danger. I had to rush the creation a little at the end to finish in time for this contest, so there's plenty of room for improvement. My first goal was to make them as good as possible in the time I had, and to make sure the players didn't get stuck or die unfairly. It's really great that you take the time to do this. Do you have a psn on lbp.me that I can heart? (I understand if you want to remain anonymous). Thanks again! | 2011-03-04 20:32:00 Author: Unknown User |
Great that you liked my feedback/review. http://lbp.me/u/Ylleylleylleylle here's my psn if you really want to heart me I guess. It's totally not required tho. hi you :3 nice thread! i would love if you try out this one: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/sho...lish-german%29 thank you! Doing this right now. I dunno if it'll be done today, sunday or monday. | 2011-03-04 22:00:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
We're greeted by two well acted sackbots of da vinci and higginbotham respectivey who tell you to head onwards. This part uses the huge spaceship motif, and it's very accurately depicted. After that we meet up with the skunk bunnies that explain the issue at hand. Again, sackbot acting is great. A short but informative cutscene later we move onwards. The theme for this part of is some sort of stone city. With only a few materials the author manages to create a varied landscape. One bad thing was that shortly after meeting the elder, I had no idea where to go, but it was quickly resolved anyway. Once inside the temple, we're greeted with some extremely nice visuals. The glass and fire looks outright delicious! A bunch of bubble combos for skilled players too. The maze part is fun and I've never seen anything quite like it. It's quality all the way so far. After the maze and some jump pad action, we encounter one of the coolest things ever. Stone tetris. Basically, huge tetris blocks of stone fall down, and you gotta dodge them! It's a very fun minigame that could be broken out of the level and easily be turned into something addictive with a few tweaks. This however leads to the unfortunately weakest part of the level. You have to activate 35 red things, turning them green. Mostly with the grappling hook. Since the entire part of this level is SO RED, spotting a few of them can be hard, and it can turn into a huge chore backtracking if you missed just one at the beginning. However, this part of the level is as good as it gets when it comes to levels that take place inside bodies. Outside the issue with the buttons, this part of the level got great gameplay and visuals. After beating this part, we are met with more well done sackbot acting and the scoreboard. Bravo. The level(s) also feature a menu, with language select, letting you play the level both in english, and german, or skip ahead. Considering the visuals and the innovative gameplay I am giving this a 8 out of 10, heart and yay'd. It'd be a 8.5 if it wasn't for those red glowy things. | 2011-03-05 20:17:00 Author: ll_ye Posts: 236 |
thank you for the review i loved to read it! i made the part easier with the red and green stuff... but sadly i can not recreate the whole level now. again thanks! | 2011-03-06 07:10:00 Author: ForcesWerwolf Posts: 475 |
This might seem odd but I'd like you to review this level for my friend... http://lbp.me/v/yfdwmg It's a racer I'm trying to get a bit of exposure for it where ever I can because I think it's brilliant. You can play alone but it's better with 2-4 players. Thanks for your time and I look forward to reading what you have to say. | 2011-03-06 12:14:00 Author: TnTyson Posts: 25 |
