Fetch Quest: The Search for Frilly Panties
Archive: 32 posts
With much help from members here teaching me many valuable tricks and techniques, I've published my first level. I found a few bugs and typos playing through myself, but I quickly fixed them and things seem to be running well. Your feedback is welcome (and honestly needed). Thanks to all the members here who's advice helped me building this level. The story of Fetch Quest: The evil (or possibly just mischievous) Baron Von Underwearin has stolen all the clothes in the town of Sansropa in a bid to break the LBP2 terms of service agreement and thus, destroy the world! Will you help defeat this dastardly villain and return the clothing to the towns people? Level Details: Fetch Quest: The Quest for Frilly Panties is a side scrolling level filled with platforming, a bevy of hidden items/areas, witty character dialogue, and a memorable boss fight. http://lbp.me/v/yczfgd Photos: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=31553&d=1298954987 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=31554&d=1298954988 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=31555&d=1298954988 | 2011-02-28 07:51:00 Author: Unknown User |

Your artistic sense is simply outstanding and it complements the sense of humor well. I also like the clever places where you've hidden objects, although I'm sure I didn't find more than a fraction of them. Just two suggestions. - If the player dies on the sheep they get sent back quite a ways. Although it's trivial to walk the distance again since nothing can hurt them, a checkpoint would save them a little time. - The landromat boss, which is mighty cool btw, has a bit of a learning curve due to the laundry dissolving after a set amount of time; it makes the fight kind of tedious. I guess you may have had a practical reason for doing so? It would be easier on the player if the laundry wasn't always dissolving suddenly. Failing that, perhaps make the boss require only 3 hits to kill? | 2011-03-01 15:42:00 Author: zabel99 Posts: 179 |
Thanks for the feedback. My girlfriend and I were discussing the checkpoint in the (Those are not pokemon!) Sheep area. There is a check point past the bridge, but it doesn't always get activated as the player goes by. I think a switch on the bridge is in order. Did you see that? If so, is it too far back? The (not) sheep can be killed, by the way. Their "brains" are exposed and sitting behind their horns. Look closely and then jump on their heads. The laundry dissolving was included on purpose, but I think I may lengthen their lifespan a few seconds. If they don't dissolve, they player can simply throw the same shirt repeatedly until the boss is dead. I wanted you to have to pass the claws to get more "ammo" as they claws and the bounce pads are LAUNDRO-TRON's only defense. Judging by your score, you missed quite a bit. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will tell you that the UFO warning sign is quite real. Aliens do pop up in the area. | 2011-03-01 15:57:00 Author: Unknown User |
I didn't see the checkpoint. I probably just missed it. I did kill a few of the sheep. For the laundry, why not have the laundry dissolve on impact with the target they're supposed to hit? You can do this with an impact sensor set to require a tag. You seem to be enticing me to go back and hunt for those prizes, and you just might succeed.... | 2011-03-01 16:10:00 Author: zabel99 Posts: 179 |
Tags and tag sensors hate me. I use them for the frog/mints and it works fine, but throughout the rest of the level I could not get the two to work as I liked. It's frustrating because I know it such simple logic and it fights me every step of the way. I plan to work on the level again tomorrow. I think the nerd troll needs some dialogue at least. | 2011-03-01 16:43:00 Author: Unknown User |

It is amazing the simple things we can miss on this game. While researching this advice, I discovered that the impact sensor has a built in tag detector. It had been right in front of my face the entire time. I've used this tool and the boss fight works as you have suggested! You were correct, and I think it is much more enjoyable now! | 2011-03-02 17:01:00 Author: Unknown User |
So is the bounce pad in the tower a pun or a hint? That's really my only question. | 2011-03-02 17:13:00 Author: Kanada Ten Posts: 87 |
So is the bounce pad in the tower a pun or a hint? That's really my only question. Ha ha ha. The bounce pad in the tower is a left over from building the tower. I was having a blast jumping off it. I suppose I should delete that. My girlfriend is a singer (She does musical theater) so the plan is to write and have her sing an original song that plays when you pan up the tower. It's quite a long process though, so I went ahead and just left it as a look at Princess Cliche Towerdweller for the time being. I'm curoius as to what secrets people are finding and what's being missed. I'm surprised no one has commented on tipping the cow. | 2011-03-02 18:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
Seems cool. I'll queue it up. Check out my versus levels sometime | 2011-03-02 19:41:00 Author: Jenkins21 Posts: 19 |

Frequently Asked Questions: Are there really Frilly Panties in the level? Yes, they are the reward for finding all the secret areas/prizes. You get them from the score board. They serve no purpose, but do feature Princess Cliche Towerdweller's face. Is there really a UFO in the level? Indeed, but the logic I used seems to like to make him move off screen when he spawns, even though it never happens during play testing. I am working on solutions. What is up with the bounce pad at the top of the tower? That is a left over from building the level. I was having fun using it to jump off the tower. It serves no purpose other than to make people ask questions. I only got 500 points! How are people scoring 4000? There are a few hidden areas in the level that you missed. I thought many were terribly obvious, but I suppose not. If you take the "candy like button" back to the beginning of the level, some will be very apparent the second time through. If you message me, I will provide hints (or flat out tell you where these areas are if you'd like) but I do not want to put them here. What is up with the mermaid? In an early version of the level, the nerd troll was said to be allergic to cats. You had to bribe the mermaid to get a fish, then use the fish to lure a cat to the troll. I never came up with a way to do this that I liked, so I implemented an easier way to pass the troll. Killing him takes a bit more thought, however. I left the mermaid because she looks good. Will there be a sequel? Fetch Quest II: The Rise of the Potty Mouth is currently under construction. | 2011-03-05 17:39:00 Author: Unknown User |
hey, sorry for the late feedback. first off this level is hilarious, and really fun to play.dont get me started on that mermaid lol,im sure my freinds are tired of me getting it out in create mode every time.i played with afew friends and we had a laugh at the funny characters and dialogue. dont really have any gripes with it,ill have to play again to see more secrets, plus ill be able to give the level my full attention if im by myself.ill post something more constructive | 2011-03-09 03:22:00 Author: gigglecrab Posts: 232 |

I'm glad you like the mermaid. She's actually going to be leaving the level. I am making some different interactions for the area she is in and the clock tower. Don't worry though, she's going to be in a more appropriate area in the level I am building now. As a matter of fact, I'd be happy to throw a "Giggle Crab" in that area as well if you're okay with that. Thanks for the hearts and positive reviews. I think you'll like the next level even more. I just finished the Kraken mid-boss area. | 2011-03-09 05:31:00 Author: Unknown User |
Really? a gigglecrab? lol i would be honoured, its ok i take comfort knowing she will be in my poppit, because what we have is forever.just played it again, unfortunatley not alone because i was being spammed with joins, but i found alot more secrets, some i really wasnt expecting lol. the level is also packed with easter eggs which is awesome The only thing i dont like is that you can see the default floor at some points,it instantly breaks the the level theme for me. the characters are really well made and also the use of stickers was very clever,i saw things i didnt notice first time like the red ring of death, has that been added since? looking forward to your next level hehe | 2011-03-10 03:12:00 Author: gigglecrab Posts: 232 |

I don't think you see the default area anywhere in the second level, with the possible exception of the undersea grotto. I'll have to check that. I did use your name, or a variation, as I am building a crab shack and dubbed it "The Giggling Crab." The mermaid is on the dock nearby and she'll have dialogue at very least this time around. The red ring of death did get added a bit later. The troll has more dialogue if you figure out how to shoot him with water as well. There will be far more Easter Eggs in the next level as well. Two are already in place. BTW - Did you play w/ apostleboy? I am curious as to why they voted the level down with a big ol' face. | 2011-03-10 05:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
haha thats cool,im flattered. yes i did play with him,i dont know why he rated it down becouse he was laughing and seemed to be enjoying it,didnt bother asking becouse i never get a straight answer from him.hes been really annoying me lately im going to delete him when i get back on psn. sorry about that.the consequences of diving in | 2011-03-10 19:11:00 Author: gigglecrab Posts: 232 |

So, how exactly did you get to the top of the tower to take that picture? | 2011-03-11 01:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
oh if you equip the creatinator and keep pressing jump while firing down,it acts like a water powered jetpack had a flashback of super mario sunshine while doing it,lol | 2011-03-11 04:53:00 Author: gigglecrab Posts: 232 |

I loved it every minute of it, and the dialogue had me rolling, although it's a bit too chatty sometimes. The characters were lovely and expressive, and the boss was quite fun. This level was right up my alley, and it's nice to see a lvl with good humor. xD There are some little things to polish over, but it's still perfectly playable. I haven't found all the bubbles, but wasn't sure if it was because the solutions were too vague, or some of the bubbles didn't seem like they had anything in them? -There's an area where you see the bare flooring and I'm not entirely sure this was intentional.. It's a lil cheap. haha -The green stuff in the beginning looks so cheap. xD Again, maybe part of the humor? +The warps are a brilliant idea! A little unexpected, but very nice. +The boss is fantastic. I had a little trouble finding out how to hurt him. For a while I was hitting his hands with the shirts before the blatantly obvious hit me. d'oh! +Love princess Daisy up there haha Brilliant stuff! | 2011-03-11 08:47:00 Author: Cheezy WEAPON Posts: 283 |
Fun level. I got most of the easter eggs I think. Please pm me with the list, as I will replay if there are any I missed. Flying around the level with the water cannon was very fun, unintentional or not. Much easier to take out the sheep. Funny how they go on fire with each impact, heh. Hearted you as a creator and the level. Some very minor issues, so minor not really worth mentioning. Well, maybe the boss area is a little too dark. Would be happy to help out in create any time. | 2011-03-11 10:20:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Thanks for the feedback, I am listening to all I receive and using it to the best of my ability. -There's an area where you see the bare flooring and I'm not entirely sure this was intentional.. It's a lil cheap. haha. This is simply due to my inexperience. It's been mentioned and I have since checked all the areas I am working on in the second level. You won't see any default floors or walls in the new level. -The green stuff in the beginning looks so cheap. xD Again, maybe part of the humor? Again, new designer flaw. I worked so hard getting the title to appear that I did not think much about the room. No "blank" rooms in the second level. +The warps are a brilliant idea! A little unexpected, but very nice. I love the warps. I think everyone does. The messages boards always seem to be discussing well programmed warp options. I think you'll really be pleased with level two's warps. I've surprised myself with them. +The boss is fantastic. I had a little trouble finding out how to hurt him. For a while I was hitting his hands with the shirts before the blatantly obvious hit me. d'oh! Bosses are hard to design. I don't want to ever make a boss where you just grab a creatinator and fire away to kill them. There are three mid-bosses in the second level, and I am currently working on their interactions. I want each to be unique. LAUNDRO-TRON is built exactly how I want him to work. There's should be a bit of trial and error. If not, the fight would end too quickly. I am considering dropping him down to 3 hits instead of 5. +Love princess Daisy up there haha That's Princess Cliche Towerdweller! Brilliant stuff! Thanks! | 2011-03-11 15:31:00 Author: Unknown User |
Fun level. I got most of the easter eggs I think. Please pm me with the list, as I will replay if there are any I missed. Flying around the level with the water cannon was very fun, unintentional or not. I just learned about the water cannon/flying trick. It was completely unintentional, but it's fine. I'm glad people are finding ways to have fun "cheating" the level. I'll message you the hidden areas/items. Much easier to take out the sheep. Funny how they go on fire with each impact, heh. I will be trying that little trick when I get home from work. I hate those sheep. ... maybe the boss area is a little too dark. I'll tweak the lighting a bit and see what I think. I like it dark, it makes more impact when you enter and when LAUNDRO-TRON dies. Would be happy to help out in create any time. I'd love the help. Thanks for the offer. | 2011-03-11 15:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
I updated the level today. I finally added a puzzle at the clock tower. No more flipping a switch to move on. Also, no more moving on, taking the switch with you and uploading pictures of your shenanigans. The switch is no more! I also fixed the alien so there is no time limit on finding him. Once you meet the conditions to make him spawn, he'll stay put until you decide to seek and destroy him. I added one last secret that I doubt many will find. People who have played through the level previously may notice the key to it immediately, but others will likely pass it by as simply decoration. | 2011-03-27 02:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
I played this yesterday before your update, then queued up Fetch Quest II. I'll be going back to check out your part 1 update, and to try to find more secrets. You're the same Spoonybard from Something Awful like 10+ years ago right? Anyway, here's my feedback: Pros: Premise and Humor - I love meta humor (even if I dislike the term "meta" for some reason), and this right here is solid gold. Lots of adult creators struggle to muddy their mature content per LBP's E-rated guidelines, myself included. This level takes that envelope-pushing ordeal and turns it into a playground with uniqueness and hilarity. Presentation and Style - Everything flows really well and looks fantastic. The world and the characters that inhabit it are all expertly done, and all with what appears to be standard materials and stickers and whatnot. In most cases, I would recommend adding voice acting, but here I'm not so sure. Everything is so well done that the bar would be set pretty high for the quality of the voice acting. You wouldn't want to just add it so it's there; you'd also want it to be superb, like the rest of the design elements in play here. This would mean not only having a microphone, but also having some vocal talent yourself, perhaps with additional vocal contributors to cover all of the male and female characters and do it well. Given lofty expectations here, and how bad or average voice acting would be detrimental, I think the gibberish voices work really well all things considered. Sidequests and Secrets - There seem to be a number of really well implemented optional things to do here. I assume the toad's bad breath thing is optional, and I never found the alien, but that was probably due to the time limit you mentioned just having removed. These things are a hallmark of good design, and a great way to add depth to the experience and to reward players that are willing to put forth some additional effort in terms of thought and exploration. Cons: Epilogue - Not sure what this "go back to the beginning" business is about... I warped back and walked through the level again but I didn't notice anything different. I know I missed a lot of the puzzles and secrets, but I'm not sure if I'm just unobservant or if nothing really changed. Maybe these people have developed a liking for their forced nudism? A Stockholm Syndrome the likes of which I've never seen. All in all, this level is a breath of fresh air, highly unique and entertaining, really clever and fun. I'm excited to be among your first creator hearts. | 2011-03-28 21:04:00 Author: discokrakken Posts: 108 |

I'm excited to be among your first creator hearts. Thank you for the amazing review. I'm really pleased having read it. My girlfriend is actually a stage actor and an amazing singer. We are currently looking into having the princess sing a song at the top of the tower, but won't implement it unless it's worth the time and effort. As far as going back goes, not everyone is going to be magically dressed! You just defeated Laundro-Tron moments before warping back. Returning allows players to find different things that their efforts had spawned as the y played. I am sure you noticed the jump pads added to the first forest area your second time through? It also gives the players a second attempt to explore and find areas or character interactions they may have missed the first time. There is a lot to miss. I am surprised that so many people miss(ed) the clock tower interactions. I actually added an arrow to point players in the right direction. My gf thinks it was too much, but I want people to finish the level and not quit half way through. The new color puzzle can be quite a challenge if you don't find the chart first. Your theory on my nude characters may be true, if only applied to players. People love the mermaid. And, as you saw, she actually plays a role in the second level. I am eager to hear what you think of the second level as well, especially as it does feature a kraken. | 2011-03-29 02:32:00 Author: Unknown User |
I am sure you noticed the jump pads added to the first forest area your second time through? I'm pretty sure I missed those too... I'm generally less observant than most, and I was pretty tired and well past my bedtime when I played this the first time around, haha. I'll probably give it another go today and see if I can crack more of this levels secrets, since there's obviously so much going on below the surface here. | 2011-03-30 18:20:00 Author: discokrakken Posts: 108 |

Well, I actually added a bit more (and there is something in the works) yesterday. Let me know if you find it and what you think. After this run I'll be happy to tell you what you missed or jump in and walk you through the level myself. I quite enjoy doing that. | 2011-03-31 02:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
Played this level and you sire have some great humor. Likes all the little extra bits and eater eggs, and your characters look great! Gameplaywise these annoyances popped up: -I could pick up shrubberies at the start. Was this intentional? -your boss could use some more daunting attacks. Maybe electfy the floor from left to right, flood the room with water and dangerous stinky socks? Just some random thoughts. The jumppads could use a warning when they turn on, and they are turned on for too long. You basicly have to wait in the corner doing nothing since the boss can't hurt you. The clothes are in a very dark corner and I did not notice them until I accidently stumbled on them. Could you turn the lifebar around? When a boss gets hit his health should decrease, not increase. -at the end, maybe install a little something which show you how many secrets you have found. That way a player knows how much he has missed. -also when I killed the boss, the music got really repetetive. Maybe alter the last bit so it changes into the normal music? Don't think I hate this level, I liked it and it has potential to become even more fun and great. F4F in my sig | 2011-03-31 14:15:00 Author: Alphagaia Posts: 64 |
