PS3 Refusal to Start

Archive: 12 posts

When I try to start my PS3, it shuts off and flashes a red light.

What is the problem here?

Sounds like the beginning of YLOD to me. It's what mine did before it died. How old is it?2011-02-28 01:39:00

It's definitely a red light? And not yellow?

Have you tried holding down the power button for a few seconds (until it goes beep beep beep)?

It's my 3rd PS3 (other two got some weird menu errors that couldn't be fixed) and I got it sometime before LBP1 released (perhaps spring 2008), it's the large version, so it's probably looking at it's last days.

Time to get a 4th PS3 I suppose.

My disc is stuck in there, should I just rip the PS3 open?

First of, May your ps3 rest in peace, we all feel your pain.
If it's not too late, do a back up of everything you need...
If it's still on the warranty, just send it to Sony, if not... I'm afraid you'll have to go the way I did too: Open it and get your game out.
I've made the switch for a slim months ago and so far, everything's alright. They're cheaper, lighter and they seem to work better. Win/win!

If it's flashing red you may still be able to get the disk out. Try a few more times to get it started before resorting to cracking it open.2011-02-28 02:35:00

As I've said on a couple of threads, you can just stick the thing in the freezer. Especially if you are planning to get another one. When I started getting yellow lighting issues I could not get my disc out, so I just grabbed it, shoved it into the freezer, waited 45 minutes, and took it out.
It should start at least one more time, which is enough for you to at LEAST get the disc out, and maybe get some data too. Just have all the external usbs or whatever ready to transfer.

I'm on my 3rd PS3 now. The first I had to pry open because it was the only way I knew how to get the disc out (Red Faction: Gorilla) and the second I stuck in the freezer to get back LBP1 and actually kept using it for a few days after by sticking it into the freezer every time before starting it up. Maybe I could have kept that up forever, but eventually just bought a new one.

When I got YLOD, I got my disk out by holding the eject button, then turning on the PS3.

All this talk of freezers and turning it on is pathetic.
Smash it with a sledgehammer :kz:

Repeat for infinite moniez.

Versions_Z is not responsible for loss of money and/or bankruptcy due to the following of these steps.

If the game is still in there turn off your PS3 on the back turn on while holding power button, the fans will get SUPER load and keep pressing the eject button very vast until the disk comes out Hope that helps if the disk is still stuck2011-03-09 23:02:00

Actually saw a video on youtube about that and tried it, with no success; no worries though, I opened the PS3 up and got the disc out anyways, so there's a success there.

Since this dilemma is over, I'm gonna lock this thread up.
