I think it's actually been news for nearly a year now. They're actually starting to go nuts with making anime adaptation out of western fiction properties now...

Mixed feelings about taking franchises drenched in Americana and putting them through an Asian prism aside, the animation sure looks purdy.

And if I didn't know better, I'd say that Japan is starting to run out of ideas and has reached a point where they need to get project ideas from the west to make up for creative sterility in an inversion of how western cartoons basically lifted tropes from anime during the late nineties and early naughties, but thinking that would be crazy.

I think it looks sweet. Heard about this and the other ones, like the X-Men one, back at Comic-Con last year at the G4 booth.2011-02-28 05:29:00

@Dapiek:
You do realize the U.S. has been ripping the crap of Japanese shows for a long time, right?
Those same game shows they make fun of so much are exactly rhe ones they keep ripping off.

Kinda like SIlent Library, Hole in the Wall, etc, are originally Japanese shows and all.
So I doubt its lack of creativity.

Western coulture seems to be popular there, kinda like how eastern culture is popular with people here (thus why many shows have began to adopt anime-like style animation) so its more by popularity than it is by lack of ideas.

That iron man suit sure looks shiny!
*flare*
I would probably watch it despite the excess shiny.

@Silverleon

Hence, why I said "western cartoons basically lifted tropes from anime during the late nineties and early naughties" which is probably a modest estimation as far as animation is concerned and not including direct imports of anime (and other cultural exports are a different matter altogether).

Obviously, I can't say how these will turn out as a whole but given how rooted some of these stories are in American concepts and culture I'm wondering if their anime counterparts can capture the deeper themes behind them. Iron Man wouldn't be too difficult given the basic premise, American Military Industrial complex concepts aside. X-Men would be more difficult, given some of the best X-Men stories deal with parallels to the American Civil Rights movement and the evils of descrimination throughout history. Kind of a tall order for creators from a largely homogenous nation that doesn't particularly care about racial diversity or general equality within their own land; not to say they couldn't do it and if they did and it became popular with the Japanese viewers it might be great but I wouldn't be surprised if the anime consisted largely of superpowered slugfests more then anything. Supernatural is a different animal entirely; the Japanese are great at doing the supernatural but I wonder how well the constant references to American music, locations, cars, and general pop-culture will come across. Though I'm probably overthinking all of this.

I watched the whole Iron Man anime, it is awesome, that theme song (Which also appears in the ending theme song "Fight Never Ends") is awesome.

I am enjoyingWolverine anime as well despite the music being kinda crappy. Animaiton-wise I am enjoying both, but usually any anime from Mad House studios please me because they almost seem to be of high quality.
