Announcement: Community Expansion Pack: Melee Attacks

Archive: 9 posts

This creator-made creator pack will come with customizable Sackbots with multiple attacks and blocks that you can put right into your own levels, and microchips with animations, hit point, attack, and collision logic to add to your own fighting systems. Player controlled sackbots and AI controlled enemy sackbots are included.

Use the shared tools to learn how to make your own melee system, or use the melee system already in place and build new abilities to interact with it! (Mages, anyone?)

Here's a link to a level where you can try out the melee sackbots. (Also happens to be the beginning of a big story!) (http://lbp.me/v/y89s4h)
And here's the Level Showcase page about it, if you want to add some suggestions. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51061-The-Knights-chapter-1-The-Lost-Hero&p=788958)

This is a long time in the works (well, since release anyway) and I'm finally at the point where I feel ready to release the melee fighting sackbots I've built to the community, to make it easy for those who like building levels but don't like mucking around with hit detection logic and animations for days to make hack n' slash games, rpgs, fighting games -- whatever use you can find for the tools, basically.

What I want to know here is, what would be the best way to post these tools? It seems like giving them away as a level prize would make it so you can't edit the sackbots or microchips yourself. Which would make it a lot harder to use them for your own purposes. I've already got a tutorial level I'm almost done with, but what is the best way to release the actual stuff I've made to the community?

Anyway, that's the main point I wanted to ask people here about. Thanks for reading, and if you have any other suggestions, let me know!

Your fellow LBPer,

Alex

No one has any interest in this? Or is this the wrong forum?

Let me say a little more about what I want to do, and why:

This idea came about mainly because I want LBP2 to be even more successful. MM has given us new tools to do really incredible things, but it takes a decent amount of work to polish any new gameplay mechanics to the point that they're actually fun to play. By giving other creators a good starting point for side-scrolling fighting games, I'm hoping that these types of games will become a more important and impressive part of the LBP level mix, and ultimately make the game more exciting for both creators and players.

I'm also hoping that if I release my tools to the community, maybe people will improve upon them, and maybe a few of those people will release their updated versions (no pressure, though, you can do whatever you want with them) which will help me make the melee sackbots as good as they can be.

I honestly need advice on what the best way to distribute these kinds of sackbots and logic is, guys -- I've found giveaway microchips very annoying, because they can't be edited very much.

Any responses would be really appreciated, just to know if anyone out there is excited about this.

I am interested in this and I think it is a great idea. I am sure it will be very helpful to those that would like to make various fighting games, but lack the logic skill to pull it off.2011-02-27 18:46:00

I'm working on a side scrolling beat em up game at the moment, but I'm having trouble with the enemy AI. I also like how you did the HUD, with the 2nd player health displayed right underneath the 1st player's. And with your sackbots moving while they attack... I thought that was really cool, too. :] I mean, when they move forward a bit. In my opinion, give-away microchips serve as very good examples, and the player can recreate them if they want to do tweaks and edits. They're helpful to me, and I would love to easily see the logic if I just needed help on a specific part.2011-02-28 02:27:00

I have some trouble with logic and keeping track of all the functionalities, so I'm definitely interested in this.2011-03-08 17:27:00

Please put the sackbot in a copyable level, since this allows us to easily mess with the logic, instead of not being able to move or delete things. Also, I would love this for my Half-Life level!2011-03-13 16:01:00

Yeah, you should do it like this so people can edit it and also see how to make it by taking it apart.

yeah, this would be the best thing to do so that people can edit it i think. is there a way to save the file of the level and have people download it from a link on the web and copy it to thier PS3's using memory cards and put it on thier moon?, that way it might stop those idiots that just copy your levels and re-publish them back onto the community...

food for thought really...

I thought there was an option to have things "copyrighted" in the game. Like an option to allow other players to pick apart your inventions. I think it's in your popit, not the bubble.2011-03-24 21:43:00
