Earthquake Evasion! (Now with video!)
Archive: 58 posts
It's called "Earthquake Evasion". Search or add me on PSN, The_Killian. The entire level is held up by pistons to achieve the earthquake. It took me 60+ hours to make. There was a seemingly endless amount of flaws but it's finished! Video: N1mLaHRvm6g The video doesn't capture the feel of the level in my opinion. | 2008-11-22 19:17:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
Played the level, absolutely awesome. and very unique, i can imagine what it took to make everything work properly | 2008-11-22 19:25:00 Author: Gondito Posts: 1082 |
Wow! That level was awesome. The earthquake actually felt like an earthquake and wasn't too over the top. I loved every single second of it. | 2008-11-22 19:36:00 Author: Cloud Posts: 74 |
Thanks guys. The thermometer was completely full. | 2008-11-22 22:14:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
Wow! The first time the earthquake began was a magic feeling, the first time in LBP Ive seen someone try and recreate something from real life and actually pull it off, awesome work man! Hearted you and your level More!! | 2008-11-22 23:27:00 Author: Unknown User |
Awesome level. I can see why it took the whole thermometer. | 2008-11-22 23:32:00 Author: whatisnarwhal Posts: 164 |

You are NOT serious. The LittleBigPlanet online server isn't letting me go on. :| Now of all times! | 2008-11-23 01:42:00 Author: FrozenNeon Posts: 77 |
I was enjoying this a lot up until the part where you have to get on the elevator. I pulled the switch and it moved about 1cm then stopped. I tried playing around with the switch for a full 5 minutes but the elevator did not want to move so I had to exit the level. Normally I would never go back and play a level where I got stuck for no good reason but you have created a quality level and I will try again. I think creators need to playtest their levels more (I am sure you did) to avoid and solve such problems before publishing because ultimately most people would get very annoyed at such a thing happening and perhaps even give the level a low rating because of it. One other suggestion is to make some custom arrow stickers to replace the neon pink ones (yellow and black pattern maybe?). I find many creators using this arrow even when it completely stands out from the overall look a level is trying to achieve. It is a small detail that I think can really make a difference. Overall I think you deserve any and all recognition for the earthquake effect you have created. I don't even want to think about the amount of headaches getting that thing to work properly caused you lol. I appreciate the originality and I look forward to your next level. Btw, if you have a chance check out my level and leave some comments on my thread. Thanks and great work! | 2008-11-23 07:38:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

The earthquake stops the switch from being pulled fully sometimes and you have to hold it there. If it didn't work I'm sorry it has never stopped working completely. I'll try to add some custom arrows in later on. Thanks a lot for the in-depth feedback. | 2008-11-23 08:00:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
OK cool and no problem. Let me know what you think of my level when you have some time to check it out. | 2008-11-23 08:17:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
OK cool and no problem. Let me know what you think of my level when you have some time to check it out. I remember searching for it a few days ago and not being able to find it. I'll search for your name next time. | 2008-11-23 08:19:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
I played it again and cleared it, I have the 2nd highest score The elevator seemed like it was going to not work again but it kicked in and took me where I needed to go. Great work once again. I noticed you were able to play my level, thanks. I would appreciate it if you could leave some comments on MY THREAD (I think it's on page 3 or 4). | 2008-11-23 13:02:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

Oh hell yes (2nd highest score ). I liked the level on a superhuman level. I had a couple of issues with running across the bridge where i would just fall inbetween without me being able to control it, and on a run that would of made me number one, the escape pod landed in a strange way and i couldn't finish the level :kz:. I liked the lights smashing alot, and i sadistically enjoyed the person who shouts at you to help him while you swing on by and leave him on fire... Good times. Can you play and comment my level please? Its on page 2 or 3, Frozen Murder . Much appreciated. | 2008-11-23 20:06:00 Author: FrozenNeon Posts: 77 |

I've republished the level with some tiny changes to make the escape pod more reliable. I'll be sure to have a look at your level. | 2008-11-23 20:39:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
I played it again and cleared it, I have the 2nd highest score Oh hell yes (2nd highest score ). Heh, I seem to recall getting the 2nd highest score... Really good level, the earthquake effect, obviously the selling point of the level, felt really good, and I appreciate the work you put into it. | 2008-11-23 23:29:00 Author: Grethiwha Posts: 61 |
I liked your level, but you should add more lights. It's really difficult to see where you're going at times. | 2008-11-24 09:51:00 Author: Dijkie Posts: 42 |

wow I like it a lot, sometimes is hard to move or jump but it's part of an earthquake 5/5 ^^ | 2008-11-24 20:25:00 Author: Nagash_MalKaVian Posts: 4 |

hello, congratulations with your earthquake system. it is really realistic, i found it after de azura level the most original level i found so far. a big thumb up ofcourse i hearted the level. i liked the elevator sequence and the puzzle was also inventiv only 1 minor point at some places it is a little to dark. i cant wait for your next level. you:hero: | 2008-11-25 09:58:00 Author: webwizart Posts: 8 |
I've heard a few people say this but I like that about the level. If enough people mention it I'll change it. It frustrated the hell out of me at some points, to the point where I would quit the level altogether. I would certainly advise you to add a few lights to the locations where it's really difficult to see where the platform ends and the pit begins. Nobody likes losing lives due to poor level design. | 2008-11-25 12:30:00 Author: Dijkie Posts: 42 |

If it was that much of a problem then why not turn the brightness up on your tv or use a sackboy with neon eyes or the glow in the dark skin? | 2008-11-25 18:10:00 Author: FrozenNeon Posts: 77 |
that was pretty awesome. Very original | 2008-11-25 21:13:00 Author: xbriandeadx Posts: 134 |
I turned up the range on some of the lights and republished to make it easier to see the jumps. If there's any more suggestions please let me know. Thanks for the comments. | 2008-11-25 22:21:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |

I'd like to give this level a courteosy bump. I recommend everyone to check this level out. Probably the most impressive level I've seen thus far simply because of the amount of effort and time put into it. Also Killian I recommend you actually have a thread with your level name showcased rather than "my masterpiece is complete". It's sure to give you more plays. Very well done Killian, the little effects such as the smashing lights, even so much as the elevator working for only a meer 2 seconds then breaking is awesome. Very original, only one suggestion, maybe instead of having a two way switch at the lift that takes you up, you can switch it to a sensor switch, I had to sit there trying to get it to move to the right for about a minute ( literally ) because the earthquake kept causing my sackboy and the switch to stay on the left side, got pretty irritating but I kept going because it was really fun. I also loved the guy stuck in the fire, was he there because he was trying to warn you or about him being stuck in fire? | 2008-11-30 21:36:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

Thanks a lot guys for your kind words. **Update** Fixed two major bugs: Replaced pull switch with a visible sensor switch to prevent the lift breaking. Added instructions on how to increase brightness as the level is much too dark on some HD TVs. | 2008-12-22 22:06:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
Really enjoyed the level, 5 stars and a heart. I can't even begin to fathom the time it took to setup the earthquake effect, but it works really well. | 2008-12-23 00:09:00 Author: ALpha_7 Posts: 20 |
I thought about doing an earthquake level myself, but when I thought about all the potential problems, I was scared off! Glad to see that you were able to do it. I'll give this a play next time I'm online for sure. | 2008-12-23 00:42:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |

That was really great! Outstanding. I never expected something of that greatness, judging by the title. Well, i'm not really good with titles... | 2009-02-16 08:59:00 Author: uzman Posts: 209 |
I finally got around to playing your level Killian, and it was awesome. I loved the gameplay and the atmosphere, particularly the lights which fell to the ground and broke. In fact this was my favourite part of the level, but also the only thing that I felt could be improved even more. When the lights fell to the ground they switched off, but as they bounced back up they would turn on again. If you could hook these up to a permanent switch to make sure that they stayed off after they had 'broken', then they would be perfect. | 2009-04-03 06:20:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |

Yeah that figures, after I posted this I realised that your level was from 4 months ago (!!!) so I'm sure by now you've moved on. But if you're ever tempted to return, that's the only thing I'd touch. | 2009-04-04 08:12:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |
This level is awesome! I played it three times all the way through trying to discover the mountains of secrets there are hidden in this level, great stuff! There's just one little con which I would like to point out (even though I doubt I am the only one who has said this...), it is amazingly hard to jump whilst the floor is shaking, even though the earthquake effects are indeed very nice, it's hard to maneuver around the place whilst the ground is rumbling and shaking violently. Not that this is much of a problem, in fact it seems to be a lot more realistic and quite frankly, I like it. But I spent around five minutes trying to get out of the lift after it had been destroyed since it kept on bobbling all over the shop as I was trying to get out of it xD Overall an excellent and entertaining level, I have given it five stars and a heart. PS. Thanks once more for trying my levels | 2009-04-05 21:20:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
its levels like this that make little big planet such a good game | 2009-04-06 01:15:00 Author: johnrulz77 Posts: 835 |

Super cool level... I liked the the whole mine feel - 5 stars and a heart from me... Only thing I wish for was that there was more mine type things in it..... drills and explosions and such...but is all great.. | 2009-04-07 02:02:00 Author: dobi6 Posts: 359 |
Very nice level. I can see the technical nightmare this would have imposed on me but you pulled it off really nicely. Great attention to detail and challenging too. Thanks for sharing it. | 2009-04-07 19:34:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really didn't expect feedback at this stage since it's four months old! Though it's very encouraging. | 2009-04-07 20:22:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
I was wondering why there was no paintinator.... | 2009-04-07 20:30:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
thats the point, paintinators get overused, there everywhere; killian showed us you can make an amazing level from scratch, not using silly toys like the paintinatior, as fun as it can be, it should be used when NECESSARY | 2009-04-07 21:51:00 Author: johnrulz77 Posts: 835 |
Absolutley Astounding (Alliteration PWNZ), this is probably the most realistic earthquake i've ever seen on Littlebigplanet, brilliant job and keep up the good work! | 2009-06-08 17:02:00 Author: High Voltage Posts: 17 |
Pretty fun level, I liked how it felt like a real earthquake (it was hard to maneuver) When I was swinging above the fire and the ... person said 'No, stop!" I jumped down to save them and caught on fire and asploded >..< Other than that, no gripes. | 2009-06-09 22:40:00 Author: Loius Posts: 342 |
